One http://www.freebsd.org/tutorials/ppp/ppp.html is really NAT, Network Address Translation. Another http://www.cypher.net/~black/ipalias.html is about establishing an additional network address for this interface. This article is pretty ancient now. I mean they suggest to add IP aliases using /etc/rc.local. This is not good(TM). Let me introduce myself... I think I'm probably about halfway there (maybe 45% or so). A lot of the markup still needs changing (which is taking the majority of the time at the moment), a driver file for the DSSSL stylesheet needs creating (to specify local conventions and options) and the entity definitions need rolling back into the source. Also, the thing needs splitting back into separate files. But it's getting there. For those who want to see what the result of the conversion process looks like, try . Consider this an 'alpha' version if you like, the presentation hasn't been customised in any way. Nevertheless, feedback will be appreciated. Edit the /etc/hosts(5) file This file should contain the IP addresses and names of machines on your network. At a bare minimum it should contain entries for the machine which will be running ppp. Assuming that your machine is called foo.bar.com with the IP address 10.0.0.1, /etc/hosts should contain: 127.0.0.1 localhost 10.0.0.1 foo.bar.com foo ... I tried this with 2.2.2, with a dialup ppp connection. If hosts is first in host.conf, this causes startup of some things to be very slow (emacs) if you're not connected to the net. I notice that picobsd uses 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 foo.bar.com foo which works much better for me.
