I forgot to mention one thing: if you have DDB enabled and the kernel drops into the debugger, you can force a panic (and a crash dump) just by typing 'panic' at the ddb prompt. It may stop in the debugger again during the panic phase. If it does, type 'continue' and it will finish the crash dump. -Bill -- ============================================================================= -Bill Paul (212) 854-6020 | System Manager, Master of Unix-Fu Work: wpaul@ctr.columbia.edu | Center for Telecommunications Research Home: wpaul@skynet.ctr.columbia.edu | Columbia University, New York City ============================================================================= "It is not I who am crazy; it is I who am mad!" - Ren Hoek, "Space Madness" ============================================================================= To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Mon Sep 21 13:46:46 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id NAA01595 for freebsd-doc-outgoing; Mon, 21 Sep 1998 13:46:46 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.ORG [204.216.27.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id NAA01568; Mon, 21 Sep 1998 13:46:36 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from ken@FreeBSD.org) From: Kenneth Merry Received: (from ken@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.5) id NAA01664; Mon, 21 Sep 1998 13:46:08 -0700 (PDT) Date: Mon, 21 Sep 1998 13:46:08 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <199809212046.NAA01664@freefall.freebsd.org> To: seggers@semyam.dinoco.de, ken@FreeBSD.ORG, doc@FreeBSD.ORG, ken@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: docs/7975 Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Synopsis: camcontrol(8): Grammar error State-Changed-From-To: open-closed State-Changed-By: ken State-Changed-When: Mon Sep 21 13:45:00 PDT 1998 State-Changed-Why: I used Sean's suggestion and fixed the man page. I would lke to get hold of a high-res version of a graphic on the FreeBSD website. The particular graphic in question is the daemon character at the top of the page ( attached to this email ). If you have access to the original hi-res version of this graphic, I would be eternally grateful if you could see your way to letting me have a copy. I should re-assure that I don't intend to use it on a website or sully the name of FreeBSD ( I am a big fan! ), my reason for this request is that I actually want to make a painting of the daemon =) and the graphic on the webpage is a little small to see all the detail in. I have looked for a higher res version of that particular graphic, but with no luck. I had was the installation of Slackware Linux 20 or so times. I am having problems installing Free BSD 2.2.7 I can get Free BSD to install, but I am having two problems: 1: After the installation of system I was prompted to run XF86Setup, I assumed that this will be similar to the same command in Linux, and others told me that it willswitch to graphic mode. But it didn't. The program asked me to wait and I see on the screen " this will take a while ", after a while, there was nothing, the program just stoped and went straight to the next section, prasorted packages I did not have a chance to spacify my vedio card or anything. And I did not see any user interface. I am pretty sure that was not right. 2: After finally geting everything to install, I quit the installation program, and the program told me to remove floppy and it will reboot. Then it reboots, the computer give me the boot manager choise to chose between HD1 and HD2, I choose Free BSD, it started to load, but after it detects my 2 HDs, it says Intel Pentium FOOF detected installing workaround changing root device to wd1s1a panic cannot mount root reboot It happened everytime after I install the thing, and I did all the clean installation too, I reformatted the HD and devoted the entire HD to BSD. If you can help me please do. thank you. I did receive one suggestion from someone regarding that issue however, so I thought I'd throw it open for comment since I have an update to do anyway. For those that don't know, the script eases the process of merging the configuration files related to a make world upgrade. I'm open to any comments or suggestions on this, nothing I could find in the documentation was 100% clear to me one way or the other. I would vote for 1 for ease of use, but it probably really belongs to 8. :-) Where is your script available? --------------------- francisco@natserv.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message
