In looking at the documentation, I am a little confused about merging and copying files into my / dir. The document I am looking at is titled "'Making the World' your own" found at: http://www.freebsd.org/tutorials/upgrade/upgrade.html . There is a list of files to copy and merge and the merge is pretty straightforward, but some of the copy files are passwd, group, etc. Surely copy does not mean to copy the new passwd file in /var/tmp/root/etc to my /etc dir, does it? If so, this means overwriting my existing passwd file with the new one that does not have current entries in it. Do I have this backward or am I missing something? Thanks for the help. I am sure you will get a more accurate, authoritative, and correct answer, but I simply do ``make buildworld && make installworld''. This seems to do the job very well without any intervention. ---------- Sincerely Yours, Simon Shapiro Shimon@Simon-Shapiro.ORG Voice: 503.799.2313 From owner-freebsd-install Sat Feb 7 09:43:29 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id JAA06568 for freebsd-install-outgoing; Sat, 7 Feb 1998 09:43:29 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-install@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from goodall1.u.washington.edu (durang@goodall1.u.washington.edu [140.142.12.163]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id JAA06563 for ; Sat, 7 Feb 1998 09:43:28 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from durang@u.washington.edu) Received: from localhost (durang@localhost) by goodall1.u.washington.edu (8.8.4+UW97.07/8.8.4+UW97.06) with SMTP id JAA49968 for ; Sat, 7 Feb 1998 09:43:20 -0800 Date: Sat, 7 Feb 1998 09:43:20 -0800 (PST) From: "K. However, I get an apparently random mailing once or twice a week. Majordomo must have a bug in it or something. I've sent a message to the keeper of majordomo, but I got no reply or assistance. If anyone knows how I can "unsubscribe" to that which I never did subscribe, please share. -------------------------------------------------------- Ken Marsh University of Washington durang@u.washington.edu Chemical Engineering -------------------------------------------------------- From owner-freebsd-install Sat Feb 7 11:07:39 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id LAA15522 for freebsd-install-outgoing; Sat, 7 Feb 1998 11:07:39 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-install@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from nvt.netvision.net.il (nvt.NetVision.net.il [194.90.6.14]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id LAA15514 for ; Sat, 7 Feb 1998 11:07:33 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from rafi@netvision.net.il) Received: from dialup.netvision.net.il (ts022p13.pop4a.netvision.net.il [199.203.102.159]) by nvt.netvision.net.il (8.8.6/8.7.3) with SMTP id VAA12889 for ; Sat, 7 Feb 1998 21:07:28 +0200 (IST) Message-Id: X-Sender: rafi@nvt.netvision.net.il (Unverified) X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Pro Version 4.0 Date: Sat, 07 Feb 1998 21:00:04 +0200 To: freebsd-install@FreeBSD.ORG From: Rafi Ton Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Sender: owner-freebsd-install@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org X-To-Unsubscribe: mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org "unsubscribe freebsd-install" unsubscribe rafi@netvision.net.il Sincerely, Rafi Ton ---------------------------------- NetVision WAN Support team Haifa University, Faculty of law WebMaster, System Admin and student. http://weblaw.haifa.ac.il http://www.techlaw.co.il Fields of interest: 1.
