It uses a Siemens chipset (2186). I heard that the freebsd has already the support for some Siemens chipsets. Have anyone succeded on configuring such board with freebsd? The board is plug-and-play and uses 2 I/O base ports a one IRQ. I've tried this board with Linux with no success, so I am considering switch to freebsd if I can use it with this board. The two Siemens chips are standard parts for passive ISDN boards, i guess the TI chip supports PnP. The chances are good to get it supported; all one basically needs is how the decoding and/or configuration for the 2186/21525 chips is done. Another problem to solve would be PnP, personally i wait with this until PnP becomes part of the FreeBSD kernel. As far as I know there is no real problem to get it work, but you may apologize, I'M not a guru :-) Try to get bisdntest-3, read the README there and check if you came this way - Check the type of Teles S0.16 you have; perhaps look at some Linux/ Hisax-documentations to get an impression. Most probabliy you have a new type of card, which is to configure by software (do so under DOS) - Try to get the Teles work in another environment, in preference on the same system (under DOS, Windows ..) - Check iomem-collisions concerning Video or (!)Netadapters - If you take iomem 0xd0000 (16.3 is rather seldom I think) really type 0xd0000 and not 0xd000 - Why not trying irq 9 ? You can take irq 2 on the card, it's stable (here)- Timm Hitzfeld Juradata GmbH Muenchen From owner-freebsd-isdn Thu Jan 8 11:50:35 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.7/8.8.7) id LAA21106 for isdn-outgoing; Thu, 8 Jan 1998 11:50:35 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from arara.telebrasilia.gov.br (guilherm@arara.telebrasilia.gov.br [200.18.28.87]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.7/8.8.7) with ESMTP id LAA21054 for ; Thu, 8 Jan 1998 11:50:12 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from guilherm@arara.telebrasilia.gov.br) Received: from localhost (guilherm@localhost) by arara.telebrasilia.gov.br (8.8.7/8.8.7) with SMTP id QAA03125 for ; Thu, 8 Jan 1998 16:49:03 -0200 Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 16:49:02 -0200 (EDT) From: Guilherme Carvalho Chehab Reply-To: Guilherme Carvalho Chehab To: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: support for Sagem Cybermod In-Reply-To: Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Wed, 7 Jan 1998, Hellmuth Michaelis wrote: > Another problem to solve would be PnP, personally i wait with this until > PnP becomes part of the FreeBSD kernel. I am trying to get more detailed info. I discovered by some impressions on the board that it is manufactured in consortium with Dr Neuhaus. The name of the board sold under Neuhaus brand in Germany is: NICCY GO@, ISDN-Karte PnP (ISA-Bus). By the picture on their website (http://www.neuhaus.de) they are exactly the same board. Of course the picture is not good enough to identify the chips used on it, but they look very alike. On Neuhaus there much more info that I hope can be useful on porting the drivers. On the other hand, all info is in German, I just can barely read German (with a huge dictionary help, off course) . I also got some docs on Siemens about the chipset, they are impressively detailed. The Texas chip is, as far as I could found on their Website, some interface bus driver. You have said something about finding out how is the address decoding. There are PnP tools available for FreeBSD, check the FreeBSD ftp site int the incoming directory. I run currently a PnP card in such a way, that this card is being initialized by the BIOS, and i used the PnP tools to find out the parameters of the card and used them hardcoded in a driver - not an elegant way, but it works flawless. > I am trying to get more detailed info. I'd love to go back to FreeBSD. - Can you give a short description of isdn4bsd (compared to bisdn). - What cards will be/ can easily be supported? - Can you use any help in order to get the work done quicker? My ISDN board, by the way, is Siemens based. It's sold as Dynalink IS64PH in holland, and is an OEM version of an ASYSCOM card. It follows the guidelines given in I.430, Q.921 and Q.931 as close as possible with respect to the implementation of the layer itself as well as the inter- layer communication. Each layer is implemented around a table-driven state machine. It is much much much more modular than bisdn. Bisdn was getting a large hack due to the monolithic design, if you changed something here you broke something there. I simply wanted something which is a bit longer maintainable and more easily changable and extensible. It will have incoming telephony support, support for IP over raw HDLC and (hopefully, it is not integrated yet) synchronous kernel PPP support. It can be used with 2 cards as a ISDN D channel protocol analyzer and B channel dump/display tool - in fact i'm using it to debug itself. It currently supports just the Q.931 protocol, but it seems someone works on one of the US protocols. > - What cards will be/ can easily be supported? Passive ISA non-PnP Teles, Creatix, Dr. Neuhaus Niccy (1016/1008) and 3Com/USRobotics. Some other cards of this class may be supported in the near future. Due to the modularity it is very easy now to add cards with the Siemens ISAC/HSCX chipset. Preliminary support for an active Diehl Card, planned support for AVM B1 and Stollmann Tina-dd active cards. I hope to add support for some of the new passive PCI cards. Donations of any active or passive cards and docs are welcome. > - Can you use any help in order to get the work done quicker ? I don't think that more persons in this case lead to an earlier release date. I tried it without success. But i wouldn't say no to someone hiring me in my daytime job to get more work done on it ;-) > My ISDN board, by the way, is Siemens based. And no, snapshots of the code are not available currently. As soon as i have anything which might be installable without me answering questions about it the whole day long it will be announced on this list. In 1997 i thought i could release something by the end of that year, it now seems that it will take some months longer - there were just some things in my life other than i4b which required my attention and i4b required much more of my attention and my other resources than i initially thought ;-) hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis hm@kts.org Hamburg, Europe "Those who can, do.
