After running for a while without I4B_SMP_WORKAROUND using a TELES 16.3, it's probably time to give you a positive feedback :-)) It works great, just needed to apply one patch to 'if_spppsubr.c' from wolfgang (posted previously here) and removing the two offending lines in '/usr/src/sys/conf/files ' according to NOTE-3 in ~i4b/FreeBSD/INSTALLATION to get it up and running under -current. An extension of the accounting/billing-system in i4b would be nice. Something that considers also some calendaric entries while accounting for "Feiertage" and some other special days. Also it would be nice to have some levels of rating such as: - basic charges calculated by the given accounting-system and when calling predefined numbers, adding some rates to the basic-rates (for T-Online-calls that charge you for online-time additionally to the phone-connection-time). - additional charges depending on transfered volume for predefined numbers .. I've seen exactly this with a bad cable although others have different opinions on this. After i cut one of the plugs on the cable and crimped a new one on that cable this effects disappeared. If i were you, i would have a _very_ detailed look at my S0 bus installation and verify _all_ S0 cables, contacts, wire orders and bus termination. > Or is there always some traffic on the S-bus, even when > nothing interesting is going on? Ususally, all traffic stops 10 seconds after the last device using the S0 bus has stopped communicating. But there are exceptions, it seems that here in Germany it is possible to get a "constantly active" S0 bus by asking for it or by accident (Gary has one ;-). > Again, how can I find out more about what is happening? By debugging at various parts and levels of i4b. Using isdndebug you are able to trace many events at all layers of the kernel part; using isdntrace (have a look at the -i flag output) shows what is going on on the S0 bus for the machine running i4b - using a second machine with 2 passive cards and a custom cable described in the isdntrace directory, file cable.txt can trace everything taking place on a S0 bus. If nothing helps, only putting more debug messages into the code or using a commercial S0 bus analyzer will help. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis hm@kts.org Hamburg, Europe "Those who can, do. The weird point is that isdntrace seems to work exactly as it should, its not unstable in any way etc., but thats about the only part of the isdn4bsd-packet which works at all... The "-r" option can _only_ be used to redirect to an otherwise unused device. This means it must not have any other session running on it including any getty process. This option is most useful to redirect the isdnd output to a virtual syscons/pcvt device which has a status of "off" in /etc/ttys. This is an indication of a problem. The isppp driver instructs layer 4 to disconnect 2 times which is not appropriate. Anyway, from what I can see, the next 4K arent used twice, for the i/o address i tried (randomly...) using other addresses (all with absolutely no result, the card was not even probed correctly. After plugging the card into a DOS-machine, the setup-tools which were provided with the card allowed me to setup the IRQ and some address - the default address 0xc800 wasnt in any way "close" to the memory address nor the i/o port specified in the default configfile-settings, so this didnt help me either... This is not possible at the moment, as this machine is being used as a leased line router too at the moment - but as it currently seems as if i were going to the BP in Kiel which takes place during the last weekend of July/the first Weekend of August, and, as I would pass Hamburg then anyways, I would be pleased to visit you for an afternoon or so and take the box along then too, as I myself wouldnt need the leased line during that time - of course only if your time allows this :). Until then I will just try a new version of isdn4bsd from time to time or I might see if some friend has another ISDN-card which I can try out -- bye, logix Sleep is an abstinence syndrome wich accurs due to lack of coffein. If no or an invalid channel_id is presented, an error message is logged. This might seem quite right, but it isn't. An incoming SETUP without a channel indication (Q.931, 4.5.13, octet 3, bits 2-1=00=no channel), means, as per 5.2.3.2 b), that no B channel is available, and the destination would need to disconnect or put on hold an existing connection if it wants to accept the new connection. This feature is often called "call waiting." (I don't have Q.953 available, so the details of "call waiting" are unknown to me.) Alternatively, if the user doesn't implement call waiting, it must respond with RELEASE COMPLETE, cause 34, no channel available. Sorry, I haven't delved into the code enought yet to provide a patch, but I will try to. I'd like to support "CW" but my copy of Q.953 does not have Clause 1, where CW is described. > Alternatively, if the user doesn't > implement call waiting, it must respond with RELEASE COMPLETE, cause 34, > no channel available. Not quite true. It _may_ respond with RELEASE COMPLETE but it _must_ not. Q.931 03/93, p 133/134 says that in case 4) the user shall reject the call by sending RELEASE COMPLETE, cause 34, but paragraph 5.2.2 on page 134 also says, that an incompatible destination may ignore an incoming SETUP. I4b is currently incompatible with this case, so it ignores this SETUP. Anyway, responding with RELEASE COMPLETE may be the better way, but before i implement this, i'd like to know what the CW standard doc says. If anyone has a description of CW, i'd like to read it. I have both a analog modem (through an A/B adapter) and a teles isdn card connected to my isdn line. I can use the modem-line from outside when I decided to bring up the machine without networking. I noticed that if I did that with the .61 i4b version without the I4B_SMP_WORKAROUND define, I was unable to start and use an isdn connection afterward. Having read the rationale behind the interrupt 'fix', it looks like dialing in on my modem generates an interrupt on the teles card. This interrupt is not handled (properly?) because isdnd was not running. This leaves my card in an unusable state. It looks to me that the 'fix' is incomplete... Leo. Seems like my NT box is chattering to my ISDN > telephone, asking for an identity and getting a response back, at > irregular intervals. Yes, i've seen this type of traces also from France. It seems that the exchange verifies that a device is still connected to the S0 bus by regularly "polling" it with TEI check requests. This is a legal inter- action between a device and an exchange. The PBX i'm connected to in the company i work for does this also but AFAIK the german Telekom exchanges don't do it. Anyway, in case you get CRC errors every time this messages are exchanged, i still suspect something is wrong with your local electrical ISDN setup, such as cabling and/or termination. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 559747-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 559747-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm@hcs.de 22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Fri Jun 5 05:13:00 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id FAA06902 for freebsd-isdn-outgoing; Fri, 5 Jun 1998 05:13:00 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from hcshh.hcs.de (hcshh.hcs.de [194.123.40.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id FAA06896 for ; Fri, 5 Jun 1998 05:12:58 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from hm@hcs.de) Received: from hcswork.hcs.de([192.76.124.5]) (2167 bytes) by hcshh.hcs.de via sendmail with P:smtp/R:inet_hosts/T:smtp (sender: ) id for ; Fri, 5 Jun 1998 14:12:44 +0200 (METDST) (Smail-3.2.0.97 1997-Aug-19 #16 built 1997-Oct-22) Received: by hcswork.hcs.de (Smail3.1.29.0 #12) id m0yhvOQ-0000anC; Fri, 5 Jun 98 14:14 METDST Message-Id: From: hm@hcs.de (Hellmuth Michaelis) Subject: Re: isdn-subsystem hangs with 0.61 In-Reply-To: from Dirk Meyer at "Jun 5, 98 05:57:54 am" To: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG (ISDN Mailinglist) Date: Fri, 5 Jun 1998 14:14:46 +0200 (METDST) Reply-To: hm@hcs.de Organization: HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL39 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org >From the keyboard of Dirk Meyer: > > thanks, i'll check the 0.61 > > After install and reboot, everything looked fine, > but a few hrs later, all got blocked. Using isdndebug you are | able to trace many events at all layers of the kernel part; OK, I finally got around to trying that. I ran isdndebug -m, then a ping which caused the machine to go online, killed the ping and waited for the timeout to happen. It never did; instead, once every 10 seconds this happens: Jun 6 17:21:11 thoth /kernel: i4b-L4-i4b_idle_check: 897146471: outgoing-call-st, activity, last_active=897146461, max_idle=30 Jun 6 17:21:11 thoth /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_rxd_s_frame: rx'd RR, N(R) = 2 Jun 6 17:21:11 thoth /kernel: i4b-L2-F_MF17: FSM function F_MF17 executing Jun 6 17:21:11 thoth /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_tx_rr_response: tx RR, unit = 0 Jun 6 17:21:11 thoth /kernel: i4b-L1-ph_data_req: ISAC_TX_ACTIVE set Jun 6 17:21:11 thoth /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_T200_stop: unit 0 Jun 6 17:21:11 thoth /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_next_l2state: FSM S-event [EV_RXRR]: [ST_MULTIFR => ST_MULTIFR] Jun 6 17:21:11 thoth /kernel: i4b-L4-i4b_idle_check: 897146471: outgoing-call-st, activity, last_active=897146471, max_idle=30 (The idle_check message appears once a second, but its associated activity time stamp (897146471, 897146471 etc) is only updated when the other activity takes place.) This seems to be as much information as I can get without beginning to add my own debug code. Can you tell from this what may be going on? I.e., is it the remote ISDN router that is chattering away, or may it be the exchange? Is there perhaps anything I might do in order for this particular event not to update the activity timer, without disrupting the entire timeout mechanism? Oh, and on a different note -- is there some documentation about ISDN I might look at to gain some understanding of the protocols involved, without necessarily reading the entire standards document? - Harald To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Sat Jun 6 12:02:18 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id MAA07482 for freebsd-isdn-outgoing; Sat, 6 Jun 1998 12:02:18 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from casparc.ppp.net (mail.ppp.net [194.64.12.35]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id MAA07457 for ; Sat, 6 Jun 1998 12:02:11 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from ernie!bert.kts.org!hm@ppp.net) Received: from ernie by casparc.ppp.net with uucp (Smail3.1.28.1 #1) id m0yiOE8-002Zl3C; Sat, 6 Jun 98 21:02 MET DST Received: from bert.kts.org(really [194.55.156.2]) by ernie.kts.org via sendmail with smtp id for ; Sat, 6 Jun 1998 20:41:50 +0200 (CEST) (Smail-3.2.0.91 1997-Jan-14 #3 built 1998-Feb-14) Received: by bert.kts.org via sendmail with stdio id for freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG; Sat, 6 Jun 1998 20:37:15 +0200 (CEST) (Smail-3.2.0.94 1997-Apr-22 #1 built 1998-Jun-6) Message-Id: From: hm@kts.org (Hellmuth Michaelis) Subject: Re: idletime disconnect won't work In-Reply-To: <19980606174705L.hanche@math.ntnu.no> from Harald Hanche-Olsen at "Jun 6, 98 05:47:05 pm" To: hanche@math.ntnu.no (Harald Hanche-Olsen) Date: Sat, 6 Jun 1998 20:37:15 +0200 (CEST) Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Organization: Kitchen Table Systems Reply-To: hm@kts.org X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL31H (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Harald Hanche-Olsen wrote: > Yes, but if something physical is wrong, should I not get a lot more > CRC errors when there is more traffic on the bus?
