Is there any reason to get the plain tarfile over the package built from the port? If not, we should point (on the Java page) people to the package first, which is on ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/FreeBSD-stable/packages/lang/jdk-1.1.6.tgz [do not point to -current packages. First character appears ok, any following characters appear twice, e.g. -T-i-m- appears as -T-ii-mm- and hitting return makes a circle symbol appear (like an 'o' but slightly smaller). You have to use mouse clicks to change focus. Nothing else has changed; I can flip between 1.1.5 and 1.1.6 by changing a symbolic link on my system, and they share a common SWING_HOME. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Tim P.S. Thanks for all the good work on the Java port guys, I hope Sun see the light soon, and perhaps we should prod the good people at IBM to make Jikes available for FreeBSD; it runs on Linux with their libc or glibc. ------ =_NextPart_000_01BDC785.442C39AE Content-Type: application/ms-tnef Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 eJ8+IgUNAQaQCAAEAAAAAAABAAEAAQeQBgAIAAAA5AQAAAAAAADoAAEIgAcAGAAAAElQTS5NaWNy b3NvZnQgTWFpbC5Ob3RlADEIAQSAAQAkAAAASkRLIDEuMS42IGFuZCBTd2luZyAxLjAuMiAoSkZD IDEuMSkAawgBCYABACEAAABGMDk2RjY1RUJBMzFEMjExQTMwNTAwODA1RjlCNDkxNQAEBwEggAMA DgAAAM4HCAAOAA4ADQACAAUADQEBBYADAA4AAADOBwgADgAOAAQAKgAFACwBAQ2ABAACAAAAAgAC AAEDkAYACAgAACkAAAALAAIAAQAAAEAAOQCQAAkahMe9AR4AcAABAAAAJAAAAEpESyAxLjEuNiBh bmQgU3dpbmcgMS4wLjIgKEpGQyAxLjEpAAIBcQABAAAAFgAAAAG9x4QaCV72lvIxuhHSowUAgF+b SRUAAAIBCRABAAAAUAMAAEwDAADVBAAATFpGdbAlui0DAAoAcmNwZzEyNdIyAPszNgHoIAKkA2MJ AgBjaArAc2V0MJYgB20CgH0KgXVjAFCTCwMLYG5nAdA1NwumcCBIaSwKogqECoBJAiAQ4HZlIGp1 cxkFQGdvBUADYHVuZEggdG8WkHJ5C4BnMCBhIHADYAnAYW3yIBVAd2EEIAEAFYAJAAZwFwICICBK REsgdDEuGWA1FIQAcBaAU4cD8BcRGWAwLjIgFmH7BJAZUzYXMBotGhIVRQnw+wWgFmB0BJAJgBcw FIQXYU0CYGUXwAPwdGgWkGjZFZBKVAGgHvA6FIoZY+kgK0NsDeBrGOIDkQmAEx9AH+IgYxhwbCwg 5xXQCsAFQHR5GKIjoB3gwngFQGFwcGUQ8SOg/mgfQBYwESAIcAOgFqEJ8H8WgCLSFwEZuARgFYEW oW73JLIjYiA+NiFfGOIi3yPo4C4gIEZpEQAoYRDhbwDQHeEk5hjgayOgAHB59iACECOAbxpiFIQt ZwQgnyT0FpAD8CuwI6BlLizBgC1ULWktbS0t9/8YETHSMgEyIhZxJYEm0iW1WxSEAMBrB5EXQGMt EGPtK4FzBsMwligiIDVAIpJAJ28nIGJ1BUBzoSIgZ2h0bC7gcwDA6yOABJApLNFZCGAVVBag/xSE FcAVkARgOlI10CIxBCBfFqEQ0RNgFZACEGMVwC79FIpOFhAlgBcRGHA6YRDgUwQgO5RkOxfRYwOR Zu0iIHA3sBEgdwnhGVQbw/0bdGIu4DuTFwMUhDYUDeCqICIgbiJTbThxeRXQ/x8ALqIWgR+QOHEQ 4TcxK6AHA3AEYAOgU1dJTkegX0hPTUU8W0gYEf8uwQIgHWE9sh2KPUEEIB61fj8UigdhFIoTMAuA FZBQ9C5TLNBUO6E7MQIQLeH/I4AfcxYABHAX8AWwIlMfg+8VcBdBCREV8HVDcCOgFUH7GJAVkFMW YCOwCeAfczgTuyOwTQBuFHUaEiUQchDg3nAEID+gRGEIYGxRYQNgX0QDTOQlEBiQK4FhBUBJ/EJN FpI1IhkQNxEwgU4gLwMQK2NMMRSERgnRQlO+RD6gJZIWYC5hA6BMC4DcdXgfJy0QQqFiQpAFsS5n WMI8VRJxAFpAAwD9P1IDAAAeADFAAQAAABAAAABCSVNTRUxUOUZEQkRGNzcAAwAaQAAAAAAeADBA AQAAABAAAABCSVNTRUxUOUZEQkRGNzcAAwAZQAAAAAALAAGACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAAAAAD hQAAAAAAAAMAA4AIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAABCFAAAAAAAAAwAGgAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAA AEYAAAAAUoUAAHQQAAAeABOACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAAAABUhQAAAQAAAAUAAAA4LjAyAAAA AAMACoAIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAAAGFAAAAAAAACwAXgAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAA DoUAAAAAAAADABiACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAAAAARhQAAAAAAAAMAGoAIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAA AABGAAAAABiFAAAAAAAAHgAogAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAANoUAAAEAAAABAAAAAAAAAB4A KYAIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAADeFAAABAAAAAQAAAAAAAAAeACqACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAA RgAAAAA4hQAAAQAAAAEAAAAAAAAAAwAmAAAAAAADADYAAAAAAAMAgBD/////AgH5PwEAAABnAAAA AAAAANynQMjAQhAatLkIACsv4YIBAAAABgAAAC9PPURSRVNETkVSIEJBTksvT1U9QkItSU5ULVVL LUxPTkRPTi1NL0NOPURLQi1XT1JMRFdJREUvQ049QklTU0VMVDlGREJERjc3AAAeAPg/AQAAAA0A AABCaXNzZWxsLCBUaW0AAAAAHgA4QAEAAAAQAAAAQklTU0VMVDlGREJERjc3AAIB+z8BAAAAZwAA AAAAAADcp0DIwEIQGrS5CAArL+GCAQAAAAYAAAAvTz1EUkVTRE5FUiBCQU5LL09VPUJCLUlOVC1V Sy1MT05ET04tTS9DTj1ES0ItV09STERXSURFL0NOPUJJU1NFTFQ5RkRCREY3NwAAHgD6PwEAAAAN AAAAQmlzc2VsbCwgVGltAAAAAB4AOUABAAAAEAAAAEJJU1NFTFQ5RkRCREY3NwBAAAcwEE/WsYLH vQFAAAgwrjksRIXHvQEeAD0AAQAAAAEAAAAAAAAAHgAdDgEAAAAkAAAASkRLIDEuMS42IGFuZCBT d2luZyAxLjAuMiAoSkZDIDEuMSkACwApAAAAAAALACMAAAAAAAMABhBO0wDPAwAHEPUCAAADABAQ AAAAAAMAERABAAAAHgAIEAEAAABlAAAASEksSUhBVkVKVVNUR09UUk9VTkRUT1RSWUlOR0FQUk9H UkFNSVdBU0RFVkVMT1BJTkdPTkpESzExNUFORFNXSU5HMTAyVU5ERVIxMTZBTkRTV0lORzEwMkFO RElIQVZFRU5DTwAAAACV0g== ------ =_NextPart_000_01BDC785.442C39AE-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Fri Aug 14 06:54:51 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id GAA29125 for freebsd-java-outgoing; Fri, 14 Aug 1998 06:54:51 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from iglou.com (iglou2.iglou.com [192.107.41.17]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id GAA29120 for ; Fri, 14 Aug 1998 06:54:50 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from patrick@cre8tivegroup.com) Received: from [204.255.227.105] (helo=gateway.cre8tivegroup.com) by iglou.com with esmtp (8.9.1/8.9.1) id 0z7KIz-0001W4-00; Fri, 14 Aug 1998 09:54:10 -0400 Message-ID: X-Mailer: XFMail 1.3 [p0] on FreeBSD X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <199808141306.OAA08424@harpo.dresdnerkb.com> Date: Fri, 14 Aug 1998 09:54:56 -0400 (EDT) From: Patrick Gardella To: BISSELT@kben.co.uk Subject: RE: JDK 1.1.6 and Swing 1.0.2 (JFC 1.1) Cc: freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On 14-Aug-98 BISSELT@kben.co.uk wrote: > perhaps we should prod the good people at IBM to make Jikes available > for FreeBSD; it runs on Linux with their libc or glibc. Jikes (A fast Java compiler) for Linux runs under FreeBSD. We're prodding them to make a FreeBSD one for sure, but until then, so long as the Linux one works, we're not prodding too hard. I'd rather see them perfect it than to spend time making ports to all the un*x flavors. They'll make one eventully for FreeBSD, I'm sure. JTable and Swing haven't been very consistant, so it may be due to a bad interaction between the two. If it still persists, can you provide a simple program I can run on a reference platform to see if it exists? This worked correctly > in 1.1.5.V98-2-8. The enclosed program demonstrates the problem. I agree, but I don't know what's going on. Here's the output of ktrace: 2235 java CALL setsockopt(0x6,0xffff,0x204,0xefbfd3f8,0x4) 2235 java RET setsockopt -1 errno 42 Protocol not available Hmm, that 0x204 should be 0x4......... It turns out that I had the attempts at a bugfix by a java member in the build tree, and I shouldn't have. I just ripped the code out, and things appear to work fine now. I guess that means I'll have to re-roll the release, but I don't know when I'll get time. (I'm busy today through the weekend, and into early next week). My 'hack' fix isn't a real release, and although it doesn't take alot of time to build a test release, doing it 'correctly' takes a bit a time. > Is there a new release planned? There is now.
