This document can be found at: http://www.precisioninsight.com/dr/dr.html Our intention is to create a sample implementation of the 3D infrastructure using Mesa and XFree86 with full source available under an XFree86-style license. We are sending this e-mail to XFree86, Mesa, and kernel developers in an effort to receive feedback on the high level design. IE, what does a typical "Monitor" section in XF86Config look like for this type of LCD display? - Does the existing X11 S3V driver support the S3 Virge/MX+ 86c280 chip? it's not explicitly listed.. are patches available or necessary? - It has an ESS ES1968S PCI audio chip: pci0:16: vendor=0x125d, device=0x1968, class=multimedia (audio) int a irq 5 [no driver assigned] Does Luigi's sound driver support this chip in this PCI version? No. If it's just the ISA version with a PCI interface, you might be able to write a shim like the other shims for PCI versions of ISA devices. -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Sun Sep 20 20:56:34 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id UAA17035 for freebsd-multimedia-outgoing; Sun, 20 Sep 1998 20:56:34 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from resnet.uoregon.edu (resnet.uoregon.edu [128.223.144.32]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id UAA17001 for ; Sun, 20 Sep 1998 20:56:13 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from dwhite@resnet.uoregon.edu) Received: from localhost (dwhite@localhost) by resnet.uoregon.edu (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id UAA06055; Sun, 20 Sep 1998 20:55:33 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from dwhite@resnet.uoregon.edu) Date: Sun, 20 Sep 1998 20:55:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Doug White To: Faisal M Chaudhry cc: multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: help with Bt848 driver In-Reply-To: <199809182344.SAA21801@swallow.cs.tamu.edu> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Fri, 18 Sep 1998, Faisal M Chaudhry wrote: > I was looking at the The Bt848 driver project page at... > > http://gable.nrl.cs.uoregon.edu/~dwhite/ > > When I clicked on the link to download the driver, I got the error message > "The requested URL /~dwhite/files/bt848.tar.gz was not found on this > server." I've do alot of work on the FreeBSD driver so I would be biased to FreeBSD :-) I've taken a look at the Linux driver too. My opinion is this FreeBSD driver: Good Capture (for vic) and DMA transfer modes for TV viewing. Can watch TV even without the DMA transfer mode for older video cards. Well supported by vic. Can read the Config details from the Hauppauge EEPROMs for automatic card (and tuner type) configuration). Not yet finished the MSP34xx driver. Linux BTTV driver. Started life as a DMA transfer mode driver (for TV viewing) and added some video capture support later. Not sure on the vic status. However it does support NICAM MSP34xx stereo decoder chips which I have not finished implementeing in the FreeBSD driver. Brad Parker ported the FreeBSD driver to Linux about a year ago because for use with vic. I presume that was before the linux bttv driver had its video capture support. (or Direct Video mode) A DMA transfer from the TV card to the VGA card. However, this needs the later releases of XFree86 and some older S3 cards had problems. It is only used when there are NO menus pulled down and then NO other windows partly cover fxtv. 2) NORMAL MODE. This mode is enabled whenever another Window partly covered or has a Menu pulled down. I would think it more likely that you're spending too much time in the interrupt service routine per individual interrupt while blocking other device interrupts. Look for long-duration DELAYs, and verify whether your spl*()'s are setting a higher priority than necessary. (Yeah!) - reads station names and their frequencies via app-defaults (like fxtv) and displays it in the titlebar - popup menu via right mousebutton with all pre-defined stations for fast station changes - graphical "analyzer" You'll find a file with just the sources and a pre-compiled version. But why does dtv-tuner work so smoothly at 640x480 mode, but fxtv jitters? Is dtv-tuner using DGA? Does this have something to do with drawing to a normal window instead of drawing to the root window? It appears that even in full-screen mode (when fxtv changes the resolution), fxtv is drawing to a normal window (I can see a little bit of window decoration). thanks, -david. If I fire up fxtv I get picture and can change channels, but my computer freezes after about 30 seconds. no messages or panic, it just freezes, I have to hard reset. On the next boot the card is detected as a Hauppauge Wincast TV, and if I run fxtv again it freezes instantly, no picture or anything. If I then reboot in to win98 the TV viewer there freezes too, same thing. I have to turn the power off and reboot a couple times before it works again. I've had to take the bkrt0 entry out of my kernel config to be able to use my win98 tv viewer reliably. I'm running 3.0-BETA, recent build. I've updated my system to ELF, but I haven't tried building a kernel with the bktr driver in it since I was aout, for fear of it screwing up my win98 setup again. is anyone else seeing similar behavior?
