I bet something else overlaps with the the S0/8 memory at 0xd0000. Try to find out whats going on at 0xd0000 and reconfigure either the S0/8 or the other card. Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.93.2i Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi, I've just updated my ISDN router from 3.0-RELEASE/i4b-00.63 to 3.1-STABLE/i4b-00.70(?). Everything worked more or less, but there are still some questions. One problem, that occurred ist the "i4b-L1-isic_isac_irq: unit 0: Receive abort error"-like Problem, which seems related to the one reported on a 2.2.X Box. It happened in that moment, I tried to take the interface down (ifconfig isp1 down). (More detailed error messages and config files will follow) This did not happen before, so I guess its more a problem of the newer version of i4b instead of the old 2.2.* kernel. Well my other questions are, if there is a way to have isdnd log its debug output to a file, while running in full-screen-mode. Looking at the manual, I could not find a way to do that ? There is of course some logging via syslog, but of cource that's not what you see on the isdnd-screen, and thats what I would like to have logged as well. And second, is there any documentation or tutorial around, how to use the answering machine, i.e. how to record messages and not just play, and how to create appropriate message files. The example worked fine, but it doesn't seem to be able to record a message, and I did not find a hint, how to create my own messages (like the one in /usr/local/lib/isdn). Well, today, unfortunately (or fortunately) the problem could not be reproduced, so I guess its nothing severe, and if it happens occasionally I can live with that :-} (If still somebody wants some config-files please tell me). But still I lack a hint how to convert the recorded messages into something that could be played through my audio device. I guess I could listen to the message by creating a tell-script entry in isdnd.rc and modifying some of the scripts to tell me recorded messages (And to create messages that way), if I call myself, but I guess thats not what I (and other people) want. I don't quite understand what the problem is here. First, yes you can log to a file, use the -L switch. Second, everything you see on the screen should appear in the syslog output (given a correct /etc/syslog.conf) or there is a problem or the -dn switch is used. > And second, is there any documentation or tutorial around, how > to use the answering machine, i.e. how to record messages > and not just play, and how to create appropriate message > files. The last isdn4bsd 0.71.00 contains a (always incomplete) handbook where i tried to explain some things. I recorded the included messages by using one of the record scripts and talking into the telephone what i wanted. Then i used dd to cut off parts at the beginning or end until i got what i wanted. In case someone has a better setup, i'd like to hear about it. Im right now trying to compile a NetBSD 1.3I Kernel for the alpha arch. Right now I stumbled across 3 problems, 2 were simple to fix, one is a really ugly hack involving a local variable. All problems so far stem from 64 != 32 and sizeof(long) != sizeof (int) != sizeof(void *). Has anyone (esp. hm) spent some time on these issue? i.e. will I run into problems with structs relying on certain sizes of constructors that are not explicitely defined as having that many bist on every possible machine? I only ask, because I do not have a fast development machine, every kernel build takes around 3 hours on my axppci33. and here is the 4th error: cc1: warnings being treated as errors ../../../../dev/isa/isa_isic.c: In function `isa_isic_probe': ../../../../dev/isa/isa_isic.c:155: warning: implicit declaration of function `isic_probe_Dyn' looks like isic_probe_Dyn is only prototyped for FreeBSD/BSDI. In the last months I sometimes encounter problems to dialup to my ISP using i4b and PPP, who has a CISCO 5200 access server. Until now I had the luck, that I was present "at the console", so I could either stop the isdn daemon process or simply reboot the system. Sometimes these problems arise directly after booting sometimes after the system has been up over night to do backup and such things. But I fear it could "beat me" and push my phone bills, if it should occurr, when I'm absent. In the console I see an error message indicating a PAP problem. Attached is a isdn trace session which shows the following situation. a) The situation before rebooting, where i4b repeatedly tries to establish a connection to the ISP b) The situation after rebooting the machine, where the machine also has trouble to connect to the ISP, but then is successful after some tries ... I'm not sure, if this is an i4b or a CISCO problem, I think both might be possible. Could somebody please have a look at this traces ? I don't know much about the ISDN status messages and lacking the necessary documentation. I already compared the traces and you see a difference between successfull and unsuccessful calls. I gzipped the files, otherwise they would have been a bit large. Maybe my ISP could make a group reply and contribute some stuff from the Cisco's syslog ?! In the attachment you'll find an excerpt from my ISDN's accounting file, that shows, that the problem is present since November last year ... I should have looked at it earlier ;-) There you'll see only unsuccessful dialups. All looks OK from a mediocre kernel hackers view, I plain don't kow why it wouldn't configure the right things under my setup, either i386, alpha or m86k (last one only educational, because I don't have pci/isa availible). I might try that on a sparc ;-) > You got something messed up with your integration of the various 'files.*' > under i4b/NetBSD! It is, at least as stated in the file, and that file is included in the files.alpha... > This are the usual problems to be expected when first hitting an > architecture with different memory layout - I'm suprised it's only this > few... Me too. only thing is missing is a reference to fuword, which is currently not availible under alpha, but ross harvey will take a look at it. But he also says, I should probably change the code to do it like all the other ioctl interfaces do... You dial into the CIS access node by either modem or X.75 (for Germany; other european countries sometimes use V.120 oder do not provide ISDN access at all). After authenticating with CIS as usual, you start asynchronous PPP, which runs on some boxes in the U.S. By logging in with "123456,1234/GO:PPPCONNECT", starting PPP is done immediately after authentication, else your chat script must wait for the first "!" prompt and enter "go pppconnect." Obviously, this doesn't work with i4b at all, because we neither have X.75 nor a tty interface suitable for pppd(8) or ppp(8). However, I think I remember at least rumors that CIS will provide "real" PPP dial-in sometime in the future. Hi Hellmuth, thanks for you fast response. Well, then I'll have to wait for the next unsuccessfull dialup .... Might last some days until then. Will enable debugging and will setup tcpdump .... Best would be to add a tcpdump statement into rc.network before rc.isdn is called... Do you suggest any special tcpdump flags that I should use ? No I did it manually. I know exactly, that I first ran tcpdump and then inititated a callout via ping ;-) Yesterday the yearly year++ counter increased, but I think I got the above task still managed properly ;-) > > Something special needed ??? > > Try to run tcpdump, and then establishing the connection. Well all we want to see is what goes wrong in some cases, when the line goes up. Why the callout happened is of no interest, I don't see the logic (-n thingie) in this special case ;-) > Also ask your provider for hints from the dial-in server's log, why > authentication might be failing. Radius log shows, that I properly logged in... Might IP header compression cause a race condition ???
