You would have to write a small shell/perl script, which you run from ISDN-UP, that: 1. Runs "ifconfig isp0" and places the output in a temp file 2. Grabs the value after inet in the tempfile (which is the ip number which your provider gives you), 3. adds this IP number to a textfile somewhere on your machine This textfile is the log you want. This should not be too much work at all. Good luck, Luke Roberts >Hi, > >I've just been trying to find out whether i4b is able to log the >dynamic IPs it establishes connections with. I am very sure (from both isdntrace and a tcpdump on isp0) that my isp does answer, and that it actually starts authentication, which is cut off by the connection dropping. Is there any other debugging messages that I can get that may help investigate this? Besides the fact that this is a bit annoying since I need to reboot my machine, its also really very expensive because it will first try like 10-15 times in a row till it gives up, which simply costs around $1,- for each incident. On another side note, it would really really help a lot if it was possible to stop i4b from dropping connections that it regards idle. The very simple reason is that its impossible now to wait for an incomming ip connection from another machine without continuesly creating unneeded trafic yourself (a ping or whatever to keep your connection up) which is simply expensive and creates trafic that noone is waiting for. kind regards, Bart To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Thu Jul 8 12:21: 1 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from peedub.muc.de (newpc.muc.ditec.de [194.120.126.33]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ADBD61505A for ; Thu, 8 Jul 1999 12:20:57 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from garyj@peedub.muc.de) Received: from peedub.muc.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by peedub.muc.de (8.9.3/8.6.9) with ESMTP id VAA03946; Thu, 8 Jul 1999 21:20:53 +0200 (CEST) Message-Id: <199907081920.VAA03946@peedub.muc.de> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.0.2 2/24/98 To: Bart van Leeuwen Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: hangup/redial.. This sounds like a problem I've encountered when connecting to one of our cisco 3640 routers (IOS 12) using i4b. If any testing/debugging is needed (Hellmuth ?), contact me, as I've got access to the dialin router as well. The loop I've been watching occurrs _before_ entering authentication phase. i4b tries to negotiate connection parameters as long as I don't stop it manually. -- Christian To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Fri Jul 9 7:27:48 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from stoned.rhein-main.de (NAFp2-023.rz.uni-frankfurt.de [141.2.23.23]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A1B10155DE for ; Fri, 9 Jul 1999 07:27:43 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from strange@stoned.rhein-main.de) Received: (from strange@localhost) by stoned.rhein-main.de (8.9.2/8.9.2) id QAA20510; Fri, 9 Jul 1999 16:28:02 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from strange) Date: Fri, 9 Jul 1999 16:28:02 +0200 From: Meike Aulbach To: Christian Carstensen Cc: Dirk Meyer , freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: mobilcom/freenet and i4b Message-ID: <19990709162802.D20325@stoned.ether.net> References: <19990709040546.A19512@stoned.ether.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.95.3i In-Reply-To: ; from Christian Carstensen on Fri, Jul 09, 1999 at 03:38:37PM +0200 Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Fri, Jul 09, 1999 at 03:38:37PM +0200, Christian Carstensen wrote: > The loop I've been watching occurrs _before_ entering authentication > phase. i4b tries to negotiate connection parameters as long as I don't > stop it manually. Subject says it all. Well, almost: I have had such a thing working in an i386 box (using linux), but now the box is running FreeBSD 3.2R. In /usr/share/examples/isdn/* was a note that this card is not currently supported, however, this document was dated Dec 1998. I tried to get the kernel to recognize it, but failed. Is it me, or is it simply not supported yet? If it should work, I'll need some help, if not, another card. :) Any help appreciated, thank you. The problem with this type of bugs is, that i don't use PPP and that almost all of the other developers don't use PPP and/or that we can't reproduce this more or less due to our setups. To get this fixed, someone who actually has this problem or can reproduce this problem in his environment has to sit down, analyze whats going wrong and code a solution and/or a bugfix. As much as i would like to work more on this, my spare time (and my "Leidensdruck", the translation according to my shiny new dictionary seems to be "mental trauma") to setup all the stuff needed to reproduce this, fix and test it is much too limited now and in the near future. Anyway, in case there is someone out there with too much time and a good understanding of the inner workings of PPP, she/he is very welcome! ;-) hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 559747-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 559747-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de 22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Sat Jul 10 8:56: 8 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from web902.mail.yahoo.com (web902.mail.yahoo.com [128.11.23.77]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id D545814C11 for ; Sat, 10 Jul 1999 08:56:05 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gulasch00@yahoo.com) Message-ID: <19990710155351.11423.rocketmail@web902.mail.yahoo.com> Received: from [212.202.67.132] by web902.mail.yahoo.com; Sat, 10 Jul 1999 08:53:51 PDT Date: Sat, 10 Jul 1999 08:53:51 -0700 (PDT) From: dadadu To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org index _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
