It finds at pci0 a Ricoh RL5C475 PCI-CardBus Bridge. I didn't think it would run pccards, but my D-Link 660 ne2000 compatible is working. The Sony cdrom will boot the 3.2-RELEASE cdrom; I haven't installed from it though. This cdrom runs from a pccard, and I can read the tuples with pccardc dumpcis but haven't succeeded in installing a driver that works (I tried wcd1 but it's not found, and created a panic with wcd0). Windows98 thinks the cdrom is a Matshita UJDB110; booting kernel.GENERIC does not result in any hits with any cdrom drivers. Any suggestions on this? USB printing works. X works. Sound works, although it warns me that SB Pro support is required, so I don't have quite the right stuff in the kernel yet. As I mentioned before, the usb floppy will boot the install disks; I originally installed 3.2-RELEASE from dos, upgraded to the July 26 -current snap by downloading to a dos partition and using the install.sh scripts, and then did a make world with the July 27 sources. I have 3.2 floppies with pccard (non-PAO) support that don't work to recognize the ethernet pccard, but I would guess a "make release" of -current with pccard support added would produce floppies that would work. This VAIO has a stick-type pointing device (and three mouse buttons) rather than a touch-pad. (I happen to like this.) This VAIO is smaller (and lighter weight) than most VAIO laptops; I'd like a larger font on the console, and can change it to 40x25 but can't figure out how to do anything else in spite of reading the vidcontrol man page several times. I would also like to make the display wider (it's not filling the screen horizontally). Is there any possibility I can do anything about this? Where would I start? In any case, my thanks to Warner Losh and others who have worked on the pccard and usb support. I didn't expect as much to work so soon. I've read the old postings to the mailing lists however the suggestions do not appear to work. I have created the devices and made the correct links according to the sound.doc. I've also added the pcm0 line to my kernel config file. Is there anyone that has a dell latitude that sound actually works in. Sorry for the crosspost, KNS PS: Is there more documentation on pnp. The PNP man page is not very specific. Mike, I've already started porting tpctl to FreeBSD, since I run FreeBSD on a Thinkpad and have felt the need for such a tool. IMHO, it should be a fairly easy porting job since tpctl and friends are rather well written. My porting will be a rewrite for many reasons, not least of which is the licensing. I'm hoping for an alpha release within a couple of weeks at most. No promises, though. Regards, Rajappa -- Rajappa Iyer #include We're too busy mopping the floor to turn off the faucet. I only have FreeBSD on an older Latitude with no audio. First, my understanding is that the VAIOs have real modems. I'm pretty sure that this is still the case for the F270s. Can someone tell me how to detect and setup the internal modem? Second, how hard is it to setup the sound on one of these beasts? Finally, I want to setup a hibernation partition on this machine. Is the partition id 160? As always, thanks in advance... Jerry A! As far as I know the F270 doesn't have an internal modem. Mine came bundled with a "Platinum Card MC220 Modem Card" which is a modem, and you can also buy various cables for it to use it as an ISDN modem or as an ethernet card. As I mentioned earlier, I have both Microsoft and FreeBSD on my CTi. I wouldn't call the sound under FreeBSD "crappy", but the level is *much* below that of Microsoft. I'd agree that this is probably a software problem. Greg -- When replying to this message, please copy the original recipients. I've been running 3.2-STABLE on my z505, but hadn't tried to get the modem or sound working yet. (well, sort of, I quickly ruled out it being sb compatible :-). I had hoped the OSS drivers might pick up on the sound card, and was going to work on it later this weekend or early next week. Any suggestions or pitfalls from someone who has tried? BTW, the z505sx is a fantastic machine. I had a rather odd experience installing the machine (if the boot sequence probes for the 2nd ide controller (perhaps hitting the memory stick) the machine crashes and burns), but otherwise X was up and running without a hitch, and once I upgraded to the latest PAO my apm stuff worked perfectly. This is a type 2 card (not Cardbus), based on the older 3C589 Etherlink III. The 3C589 is listed in the FreeBSD 3.2 docs as supported; does this cover the new Megahertz cards too? The PAO package lists a similar card, the 3CXE589ET, as being supported, but it uses one of those horrid X-Jack connectors instead of the traditional small cable between PCMCIA card and RJ-45. :( Anyone had experience with the 3CCE589ET? The drivers are different, and if you have both drivers loaded, neither card will work. Same if you have the wrong driver. You'll need to remove the drivers and delete the registry entry to do a complete reinstallation of the correct driver. I have both cards, and I only used to use the "D" card because of this. However, I haven't booted my TP600 under Windows for fifteen days now (had to do so only because the BIOS needed a reset when I got a dock for it). Who do I hit up for my 30-day "clean and sober" chip? The Mantra of Windows support is: when the system is being unstable, reinstall Windows. While that usually does work, UNIX would never have gotten anywhere with a simular support model.
