Some more from the Release notes: _________________ *The OpenAFS source code is currently available on the following platforms: AIX 4.2, Digital/Compaq UNIX 4.0, Red Hat Linux 6.2, Solaris 2.6 and 2.7, and Windows NT 4.0. *For backup, the default is for OpenAFS to compile without XBSA support. To compile with XBSA support, you need to install the TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager/ADSM) API version 3.7.1. *The OpenAFS for Windows NT source code contains everything you need to build the product except: 1) the Microsoft DDK include files and 2) InstallShield. Please see the note about OpenAFS for Windows NT (below) for information on how to get the necessary components to build OpenAFS for Windows NT. *The AFS/NFS Translator and AFS/DFS Translator source code is not available. *Fsck code is available only on the Digital UNIX platform. There is no fsck available on AIX or Solaris platforms. *The OpenAFS source code has not been tested; however, we have done successful builds on all of the platforms included in this release (adding in the 2 pieces detailed below for the OpenAFS for Windows NT build). ____________ cheers, Pedro. Testing is great. My current plan is to continue working on getting the userland utilities to work, then fight with the client, and then the server. People to talk to about kernel support for OpenAFS would include: - Coda project members who worked on FreeBSD/*BSD (myself, Shafeeq Sinamohideen , Bob Baron) - Arla developers (Assar, others, , arla-drinkers mailing list) The first open question would be: (1) port the supporting kernel module to FreeBSD, or (2) attempt to rework OpenAFS to use the Arla module or the Coda module? Since I haven't looked at the OpenAFS module yet, I can't comment on differences. On the other hand, AFS has, at various times, supported BSD VFS-like platforms, meaning that it may not be all that difficult of a port, and may be easier than substantially diverging from the OpenAFS base. There was some initial difficulties about the subscription. At any rate, that patch is now outdated. This new patch will actually get you all the way through the build cycle. I've done zero testing yet, though. This patch was also made against the initial OpenAFS release, and does not depend on my patch from yesterday. http://www.ece.cmu.edu/~tardis/openafs/oafs-fbsd-973206942.patch -- Tom Maher, ECE Systems Administrator To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-afs" in the body of the message
