As you might know, they are giving away freedsl access and a free modem. My question is, will the DSL modem that I am getting be compatible with FreeBSD? They have offered two types of modems, a PCI and a USB modem. The PCI modem is suppost to be ADSL, as also the USB modem. Does freebsd support a generic driver for USB and/or PCI ADSL modems? I am either getting a Efficient SpeedStream 3060 (PCI Internal) or an Efficient Speedstream 4060 (USB External). Here are the specs on the two models: http://www.efficient.com/products/usb/4060.html http://www.efficient.com/products/internal/3060.html I need an answer to this ASAP because I need to tell them by April 30th as to which modem to give me. Thank you for all of your help. --bhishan To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-atm" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-atm Tue Apr 25 3: 7:18 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-atm@freebsd.org Received: from ns.uninet.ee (ns.uninet.ee [194.204.0.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 83A2337B572 for ; Tue, 25 Apr 2000 03:07:16 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from taavi@uninet.ee) Received: by ns.uninet.ee (Postfix, from userid 1001) id 1C16625868; Tue, 25 Apr 2000 12:07:12 +0200 (EET) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by ns.uninet.ee (Postfix) with SMTP id 1663A14A2D; Tue, 25 Apr 2000 12:07:12 +0200 (EET) Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2000 12:07:11 +0200 (EET) From: Taavi Talvik To: Bhishan Hemrajani Cc: freebsd-atm@freebsd.org Subject: Re: USB/PCI DSL modem In-Reply-To: <200004242355.e3ONtTG54568@cytosine.dhs.org> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-atm@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Mon, 24 Apr 2000, Bhishan Hemrajani wrote: No, neither of these modems will work with FreeBSD. Both 4060 and 3060 require FreeBSD driver (including DSL microcode) wich we don't have jet. Best solution for your is to get external modem with ethernet interface i.e. 5260 or 5660. best regards, taavi > My question is, will the DSL modem that I am getting be > compatible with FreeBSD? > > They have offered two types of modems, a PCI and a USB modem. > The PCI modem is suppost to be ADSL, as also the USB modem. > > Does freebsd support a generic driver for USB and/or PCI > ADSL modems? > > I am either getting a Efficient SpeedStream 3060 (PCI Internal) > or an Efficient Speedstream 4060 (USB External). > > Here are the specs on the two models: > http://www.efficient.com/products/usb/4060.html > http://www.efficient.com/products/internal/3060.html > > I need an answer to this ASAP because I need to tell them > by April 30th as to which modem to give me. ----------------------------------------------------------- Taavi Talvik | Internet: taavi@uninet.ee Unineti Andmeside AS | phone: +372 6405150 Ravala pst. 10 | fax: +372 6405151 Tallinn 10143, Estonia | To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-atm" in the body of the message
