For the former, see the information in /usr/ports/database/db/pkg/DESCR; for the latter, you may be able to use the Linux DB/2 port under the Linuxulator. ----- Chris D. If you're just looking for an alternative, I would recommend PostgreSQL. /usr/ports/databases/postgresql or http://www.postgresql.org MySQL is another popular alternative, but if you're used to a feature rich RDBMS like DB/2, you'll probably be more comfortable with PostgreSQL than MySQL. They carry different licenses too, which you should read and be aware of. -Mark -- Mark Mayo http://www.vmunix.com/mark "The reason why bad things happen to you is because you're a dumbass!" - Red Foreman, That 70's Show To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-database" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-database Mon Apr 17 20:30:52 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-database@freebsd.org Received: from mail1.sirius.com (mail1.sirius.com [205.134.253.131]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C6C4A37BA9D for ; Mon, 17 Apr 2000 20:30:47 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from mjs@fix.net) Received: from zoot (215-68-127-216.ip.sirius.com [216.127.68.215]) by mail1.sirius.com (8.9.3/8.9.1) with SMTP id UAA99631 for ; Mon, 17 Apr 2000 20:29:20 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <3.0.5.32.19890417203150.02b08e30@clark.fix.net> X-Sender: mjs@clark.fix.net X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Pro Version 3.0.5 (32) Date: Mon, 17 Apr 1989 20:31:50 -0700 To: freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG From: "Mark J. I tried to get IBM DB2 V6.1 to run under FreeBSD 3.4 with no success. I read through the mail archives and the other usual suspects but gained no enlightment... (Acutally, all I want to do is run the client software under FreeBSD as we are running the database on AIX.) After a good bit of work trying to make this happen I began to suspect that there was some issue with shared memory, but this is a complete guess... I'm running FreeBSD 3.1R and Sybase 11.0.3. Sybase is up and running (no small task in and of itself :) Right now I'm stuck trying to compile PHP and apache. One source of confusion for me is the different ways apache/php can be compiled. Should I use DSO? If so, should I use APXS? Am I making the right choice? Am I running the config/make correctly? So this is what I've tried. Apache: I had the package for apache31-php3 installed and I thought that it looks like a reasonable install of apache. I used the port's Makefile for the config options for apache. The apache config worked. I did a make and it failed because it couldn't find src/modules/php3. PHP: So I thought I better compile php before apache. I configured php and it worked. The make, unfortunately, failed. I've attached the full compile/make outputs for your perusal. > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG > [mailto:owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of Chris Montgomery > Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2000 12:07 > To: freebsd-database@freebsd.org > Subject: RE: FreeBSD / Apache / PHP / Sybase > > > Hello Doug, > > Please provide some information for us to work with, errors and whatnot. > I'd be glad to lend you a hand. > > Regards, > > Chris Montgomery - cmontgomery@click2net.com > Tel: 905-271-3550 ext. 227, Fax: 905-271-3650 > Click2Net Inc. - http://www.click2net.com > > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG > [mailto:owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of Doug Poland > Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2000 12:53 PM > To: freebsd-database@freebsd.org > Subject: FreeBSD / Apache / PHP / Sybase > > > Hello BSD'rs > > I'm attempting to set up the environment described in > the subject line. the job of setting up the following: A freebsd (3.3-RELEASE) http server (apache) with PHP4 and with informix enabled, a seperate dedicated database server (redhat 6.1 *grrmph*) running Informix IDS. The first big problem here is that how am I ment to enable support for informix in PHP4 on FreeBSD when Informix isnt and cant (since informix currently doesnt support freebsd *shame*) run on FreeBSD. Can anyone offer some guidance? using a different Database is not an option, and using linux for the http server is not an option either. any help is appericiated, and I hope I provided all info that is relevant, -crypt0genic To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-database" in the body of the message
