I have heard a similar bug report before but could not reproduce the problem. The person who reported this said that after upgrade to a newer i4b version this bug disappeared. Please note that the i4b versions in the 4.x branch are all the same, you have to fetch i4b from either -current by using cvs and a script found at http://www.freebsd-support.de/i4b/addons.html or get the last i4b from http://www.freebsd-support.de/i4b/releases.html and overinstall from one of the two. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 55 97 47-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 55 97 47-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de D-22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Sun Nov 26 1:10:42 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from mailout06.sul.t-online.com (mailout06.sul.t-online.com [194.25.134.19]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 181D837B4CF for ; Sun, 26 Nov 2000 01:10:40 -0800 (PST) Received: from fwd01.sul.t-online.com by mailout06.sul.t-online.com with smtp id 13zxpW-0005ET-00; Sun, 26 Nov 2000 10:10:38 +0100 Received: from night-porter.duskware.de (520038743430-0001@[62.155.250.99]) by fmrl01.sul.t-online.com with esmtp id 13zxpL-0K2v3oC; Sun, 26 Nov 2000 10:10:27 +0100 Received: (from martin@localhost) by night-porter.duskware.de (8.11.1/8.11.0) id eAQ9AMX00502; Sun, 26 Nov 2000 10:10:22 +0100 (MET) From: Martin Husemann Message-Id: <200011260910.eAQ9AMX00502@night-porter.duskware.de> Subject: Re: No connection with isdnmonitor In-Reply-To: "from Stefan Walter at Nov 25, 2000 03:48:47 pm" To: Stefan Walter Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 10:10:22 +0100 (MET) Cc: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL78 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII X-Sender: (null).520038743430-0001@t-dialin.net Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org > Well, yes: it doesn't work, either. ;) I did try it, but the > socket is not created by isdnd. Please try this: shut down isdnd, start it again manually. Then look at the place where it should have created its socket (i.e. /var/run/isdn-monitor). If it's there, then probably your isdnd is started too early at boot time and the socket is removed by /var/run cleanup later. You could also see this from netstat: it would list the socket, even if its not in the filesystem. > netstat says there's nothing listening on port 451 at any of my IPs. So, either you don't have montior support (or TCP/IP montior support) compiled into your isdnd (check for I4B_EXTERNAL_MONITOR and I4B_NOTCPIP_MONITOR on the cc command line when compiling isdnd), or your isdnd should have loged all socket relevant errors when starting up. Or: something in your config file is wrong (or a bug in the parser reads it wrong) and therefore isdnd doesn't even try create a monitor socket. That fact has been known and published since these gadgets started being marketed -- but not by the vendors. :< > Has anyone managed to get it run using FreeBSD? I have FreeBSD > 4.0-Release. It runs fine as a PBX and probably serves you well when you connect a modem to your computer and plug it into the Teledat device. :) Alternatively you can plug an ISDN card into your computer and connect it to the so called "NTBA". If that's not satisfactory for you, please(!) bug the vendor to support the platform you want to use it on. As long as there is neither support nor information from the vendor any volunteer simply *cannot* change the situation, no matter how much he would like to do so. In other words: you are using a kernel > and a ispppcontrol utility which were compiled from different sources. Thanks a lot! That helped. I realized that I'd made a silly mistake in fixing a header problem when compiling i4b 0.95. The header problem was that some source files of isdnd did not include and . I specifically remember that about rc_config.h . It includes them conditionally only for FreeBSD 3.x, but on my FreeBSD 4.0 400017 they were also needed by i4b_isppp.h and weren't included by any other header files. Thus make failed on rc_config.c (gcc didn't recognize MLEN). Another something which seems a bug that I discovered is that the handling of ppp- attributes in isdnd.rc is mixed up. The documentation states that send-auth, send-name, send-secret are used for *my* authentication which is sent to *remote*, and expect-auth,name,secret are used for *remote*'s authentication sent to us. However, in the source (rc_config.c, set_isppp_auth()) this is done exactly backwards: expect_* fields to myauth.* fields, and send_* fields to hisauth.* fields. This is very confusing. -- Anatoly Vorobey, mellon@pobox.com http://pobox.com/~mellon/ "Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly" - G.K.Chesterton To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Mon Nov 27 7:55:21 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from demdwug7.mediaways.net (unknown [195.71.115.196]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id C14F037B4C5 for ; Mon, 27 Nov 2000 07:55:17 -0800 (PST) Received: (qmail 18577 invoked by uid 4218); 27 Nov 2000 15:55:10 -0000 Received: from dtm2-d931a13f.pool.mediaways.net (HELO dunkelkammer.void) (217.49.161.63) by 10.228.3.223 with SMTP; 27 Nov 2000 15:55:10 -0000 Received: by dunkelkammer.void (Postfix, from userid 910) id A1CA722A4D; Mon, 27 Nov 2000 15:56:20 +0100 (CET) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dunkelkammer.void (Postfix) with ESMTP id 67F0E22A44 for ; Mon, 27 Nov 2000 15:56:20 +0100 (CET) Date: Mon, 27 Nov 2000 15:56:20 +0100 (CET) From: Stefan Walter To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Subject: Re: No connection with isdnmonitor In-Reply-To: <200011260910.eAQ9AMX00502@night-porter.duskware.de> Message-ID: X-No-Archive: Yes MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Sun, 26 Nov 2000, Martin Husemann wrote: > > Well, yes: it doesn't work, either. ;) I did try it, but the > > socket is not created by isdnd. As there aren't any error messages, recompiling seems the only way. I don't want to do it now, though, as I will upgrade to FreeBSD 4.2-RELEASE at the beginning of next week; I'll upgrade to the latest i4b version then, too, and recompile it. > Or: something in your config file is wrong (or a bug in the parser reads > it wrong) and therefore isdnd doesn't even try create a monitor socket. As I don't get any error messages when isdnd parses the config file, everything should be fine; everything else (i.e. my internet connection) is working quite normal. I'll just wait until next week and see if Hellmuth is right and it'll work after the upgrade. Since I have the german Telekom flatrate and the ISDN-xxl (which means that phone calls on sundays are freeeee), I'd like to use both ISDN-channels on sundays. How do I do it? I am able to use i4b on my OpenBSD 2.8 current with ISA USR Sportster card after I have installed the patches from http://www2.zilium.de/~joerg/obsd-isdn.html and made some manual changes too. But it took me three weeks (evenings). Does it make sense maybe, to create a i4b port for OpenBSD? I am a BSD-newbie and don't know if i4b is appropriate as a port... (is there a FreeBSD port? I haven't found it on the http://www.freshports.org and http://www.freebsd.org/ports/ ) Anyway I would like to suggest changing the line ##file dev/isapnp/isapnp_isic.c isapnp_isic to: ##file dev/isa/isapnp_isic.c isapnp_isic in the file OpenBSD/files.i4b and also maybe updating the version check in MAKEDEV.i4b to 2.8. If you're using -auto mode, you can't ``set ifaddr 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0'', but you can add an additional two arguments to force ppp to ask the peer for 0.0.0.0: set ifaddr 1.1.1.1/0 2.2.2.2/0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0 > hope it helps Martin > > -- > > ich versuche mich ein wenig in C unter Suse-Linux und wuerde gerne > > wissen wie man den Bildschirm loeschen kann . > Jeder ABC-Loescher sollte funktionieren. I have never seen this before. The layer 2 seems to get erroneous data from the wire which has the effect of irritating the D-channel communication. It has nothing to do with the choice between user ppp and sppp because both are not involved in this. They operate on the B-channel whereas your primary problem is the D-channel (call control channel). The thing which irritates me is that it does not happen as soon as the first call is made. It might be your hardware or your NT or your card or a bug in i4b or a bug in your PBX and/or exchange office. > I alsto tried to put my old ISA USR TA int into the machine, but I can't > make it work on 4.2-STABLE, the compiled kernel coredumps on load (!) ... it > seems the kernel is not getting the right ISA base adress (which is default, > 0x268) I have it working under FreeBSD 4.1.1-STABLE with i4b 0.96: isic0 at port 0x8268,0x268-0x26f,0x668-0x66f,0xa68-0xa6f,0xe68-0xe6f,0x1268-0x12 ,0xe668-0xe66f,0xea68-0xea6f,0xee68-0xee6f,0xf268-0xf2 6f,0xf668-0xf66f,0xfa68-0xfa6f,0xfe68-0xfe6f irq 5 flags 0x7 on isa0 isic0: passive stack unit 0 isic0: USRobotics Sportster ISDN TA intern isic0: ISAC 2085 Version A1/A2 or 2086/2186 Version 1.1 (IOM-2) isic0: HSCX 82525 or 21525 Version 2.1 where it runs fine without any noticable problems. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 55 97 47-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 55 97 47-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de D-22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Fri Dec 1 7: 7: 0 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from hcshh.hcs.de (hcshh.hcs.de [194.123.40.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CB7AF37B400 for ; Fri, 1 Dec 2000 07:06:57 -0800 (PST) Received: from hcswork.hcs.de (hcswork.hcs.de [192.76.124.5]) by hcshh.hcs.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5DBB15D15; Fri, 1 Dec 2000 16:06:48 +0100 (CET) Received: by hcswork.hcs.de (Postfix, from userid 200) id 0290C293; Fri, 1 Dec 2000 16:14:30 +0100 (MET) Subject: Re: How to use 2 channels on sundays? I am too using ISDN-xxl (but not the flatrate) and because of this [:-))] i4b as of 0.96 has a new feature to specify for which time an entry is valid: man isdnd.rc (as of 0.96) says somewhere: valid Note: this feature is considered experimental! The parameter to this keyword is a string specify- ing a time range within which this entry is valid. The time specification consists of a list of week- days and/or a holiday indicator ( see also the holidayfile keyword in the system section ) sepa- rated by commas followed by an optional daytime range specification in the form hh:mm-hh:mm. The weekdays are specified as numbers from 0 to 6 and the number 7 for holidays: 0 Sunday 1 Monday 2 Tuesday 3 Wednesday 4 Thursday 5 Friday 6 Saturday 7 a Holiday The following examples describe the "T-ISDN xxl" tariff of the german Telekom: 1,2,3,4,5,6,09:00-18:00 Monday through Saturday, daytime 9:00 to 18:00 1,2,3,4,5,6,18:00-9:00 Monday through Saturday, nighttime 18:00 to 9:00 0,7 Sunday and on holidays, all 24 hours By using this keyword and different entries for the different times and by using the budget-xxxx keywords in isdnd.rc i'm able to make isdnd behave nicely with respect to the different charging rates of this tariff. Also note, that this feature is experimental and may have a side effect if a call is going on while a valid entry time changes. YMMV. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 55 97 47-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 55 97 47-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de D-22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Fri Dec 1 7:15: 4 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from hcshh.hcs.de (hcshh.hcs.de [194.123.40.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 40E1A37B400 for ; Fri, 1 Dec 2000 07:15:02 -0800 (PST) Received: from hcswork.hcs.de (hcswork.hcs.de [192.76.124.5]) by hcshh.hcs.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id E47955D15; Fri, 1 Dec 2000 16:14:52 +0100 (CET) Received: by hcswork.hcs.de (Postfix, from userid 200) id 91A22293; Fri, 1 Dec 2000 16:22:35 +0100 (MET) Subject: Re: i4b and OpenBSD - as port? Hi, sorry for late answer but had to fight a cracker who tried a rm -rf / on my old linux router (running with wide open services and full logging to another machine ;) - really have to replace it now because /usr and /var is empty - Therefor had no time to really look at the code yet. back to i4b: 1. ing is working (in theory). pratically I did not yet get any i4b if up. thanks for the pointer to the patch on the mailing list. 2. thanks for your pointer for cisco hdlc again but I think that is not really what I was looking for (am quite more confused) - please correct me - most likely I am wrong: out of 2.4 "the b-channel" --- snipp --- HDLC is used for the IP over ISDN interfaces ipr and isp. In case of the ipr driver, IP frames are put directly into those HDLC frames and sent to the remote site; in the case of isp IP frames are encapsulated into PPP frames which in turn are put into the HDLC frames. --- snipp --- meaning: - ipr is for using raw hdlc ...|"header" , i-frame , "more flags"| ... HDLC-FRAME - isp is for using sync. ppp ppp is put into raw hdlc i-frame and doing it's own stuff there ...|"header" , "ppp head", i-frame, "ppp tail" , "more flags"| ... HDLC-FRAME with PPP is this some kind of correct ? ok. now there are two types of keepalives: 1. cisco hdlc slarp keepalives 2. "ppp keepalives" that have nothing in common that the part of the name (highly simplified). So why is cisco hdlc implemented in isp instead of ipr if it is only using "raw hdlc" with slarp extetions ? Am I missing something ? So what I would have to use is ipr with slarp extentions. 3. already did some short testing to get some pieces of logfiles. did put them on http://patch.zabbadoz.net/ in ISDN4FreeBSD section if anybody is interested. What is the development status > for the iwic driver? > > Any sollutions/workarounds? First of all, i doubt that the Asuscom hardware is bad. I got the impression that the people there know exactly what they are doing and do very good engineering work. It is not the card to blame but the driver. And the driver can only be as good as people are giving (immediate) feedback _and_ are trying to debug and fix a broken or buggy driver. I have no idea what causes this, but i will put my Winbond card in a live system and see if i can debug the driver (although i will not be able to do this before two weeks from now: sorry, but i have a life in a parallel universe called "real world" going on ...). There is no reason why the Winbond based cards should not work flawlessly once they are debugged. Other hardware drivers are now two or three years old whereas the Winbond driver is very new. Many people have fixed and contributed to other drivers, noone did so far for the Winbond driver; in fact this is almost the first report for it. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis hm@kts.org Hamburg, Europe We all live in a yellow subroutine, yellow subroutine, yellow subroutine ... AFAIK, Cisco HDLC is more like the ipr way of doing things with the addition of adding a second encapsulation providing a "packet" type to distinguish between control packets (i.e. keepalives) and data packets (payload data). > So why is cisco hdlc implemented in isp instead of ipr if it is only > using "raw hdlc" with slarp extetions ? I don't know. It is part of the sppp subroutine set. Was it perhaps phk who added this (Poul-Henning, are you listening ?). > So what I would have to use is ipr with slarp extentions. This would be a natural way if it was not there, but i think it is already there in the isp/isppp interface, so why do doubled work ? hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis hm@kts.org Hamburg, Europe We all live in a yellow subroutine, yellow subroutine, yellow subroutine ...
