It turned out the jdk port built my linux stuff, and installed it, but did not actually start the linux emulation. I simply started the linux emulation and returned to the build and everything went smoothly from there. From reading the rest of this thread it appears you also had some other problems, and cvsup-ing and re-booting (which probably started linux) got rid of this particular issue. Try using the linux-jdk manually, e.g. doing 'java -version'. If you can't, then the port build probably can't either :). > Method 2: Get the lastest jdk12-beta.tar.gz. It stops only, if I move the mouse-pointer away from the scrollbar. Do you know a way to work around? Or am I the only one who run into it? Another question is, there's a lot of freespace around text in swing application on jbuttons and jtree's for example. More, than on the linux and windows versions, and more the on the 1.1.8 jdk for FreeBSD. Does it come from the use of the URW-fonts? (It just interests me...) Thanks in advance for answering my questions! Joachim. I've seen this too and think its also a Motif problem, or rather a Motif mismatch. Internally, Sun have used Motif 1.2 for the JDK. We're using OpenMotif which is Motif 2.1.30. There are some incompatibilities we're stuck with for the moment. - Greg To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Wed Nov 8 1:29:27 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from hermes.research.kpn.com (hermes.research.kpn.com [139.63.192.8]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DF38637B4C5; Wed, 8 Nov 2000 01:29:25 -0800 (PST) Received: from l04.research.kpn.com (l04.research.kpn.com [139.63.192.204]) by research.kpn.com (PMDF V5.2-31 #42699) with ESMTP id <01JWALS3X8YU000YSD@research.kpn.com>; Wed, 8 Nov 2000 10:29:21 +0100 Received: by l04.research.kpn.com with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2650.21) id ; Wed, 08 Nov 2000 10:29:21 +0100 Content-return: allowed Date: Wed, 08 Nov 2000 10:29:20 +0100 From: "Koster, K.J." Is there any way for the port to check that the linux-emu is up-and-running automatically? Perhaps add something to the sanity check like: if [ X`.../linux.../java -version | grep 1.2.2` == X ] then echo "Please turn on the linux-emu in /etc/rc.conf" exit 1 fi Hmm... or something. :-) Alternately (better, perhaps) we could add this to the .java_wrapper script of the Linux JDK in the ports collection. That would also help people who are not building JDK's themselves. Kees Jan ================================================ You are only young once, but you can stay immature all your life. I shouldn't have to reinstall the Linux JDK to do so, but as it stands I do. This is an issue with the port, not what you've said, but it does impact on any code that specifically assumes bootstrapping with the Linux JDK. My other comment is that the linux-jdk port should do what all the other Linux ports do in terms of Linux emulation. If they turn it on, then so should the linux-jdk port. It would seem sensible that installing a Linux based port should turn on linux emulation if its not already on, but its something that needs to be consistent across the board IMO. Your point that this is an FAQ and something should be done about it is a good one though :). - Greg To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Wed Nov 8 15:52: 7 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from horizon.webcentral.com.au (horizon.webcentral.com.au [202.139.235.244]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 81C8B37B479 for ; Wed, 8 Nov 2000 15:52:03 -0800 (PST) Received: (qmail 7256 invoked from network); 8 Nov 2000 23:28:09 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO warhawk) (203.147.163.223) by horizon.webcentral.com.au with SMTP; 8 Nov 2000 23:28:09 -0000 From: "Haikal Saadh" To: Subject: RE: freebsd-java-digest V4 #457 Date: Thu, 9 Nov 2000 09:55:50 +1000 Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2910.0) In-Reply-To: Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4133.2400 Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org >> Is there any way for the port to check that the linux-emu is >up-and-running >> automatically? Time for me to go back and see JV> if the brokenness has been fixed. Well, first one seems to be unrelated (and it's the one which is closed). The second one is closer. Though, when jdk1.2.2 port compiles its shared libraries, it adds -lgcc, and libgcc is compiled in (may be, it is the way you go with your shared C++ libraries?). It was just that old libgcc.so (which laid there in /usr/lib, not touched by installworld) was linked in. I removed it, rebuilt jdk -- now it's fine. So, it is just about world upgrades which doesn't touch old binaries. And those old binaries might accidentially be used and cause problems. --- Disclaimer: "These opinions are my own, though for a small fee they be yours too." -- Dave Haynie To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Thu Nov 9 4:33:38 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from blizzard.sabbo.net (unknown [193.193.218.18]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 413DD37B479 for ; Thu, 9 Nov 2000 04:32:45 -0800 (PST) Received: from vic.sabbo.net (root@vic.sabbo.net [193.193.218.109]) by blizzard.sabbo.net (8.10.1/8.10.1) with ESMTP id eA9CVVk04689; Thu, 9 Nov 2000 14:31:53 +0200 Received: from FreeBSD.org (big_brother.vega.com [192.168.1.1]) by vic.sabbo.net (8.11.0/8.9.3) with ESMTP id eA9AbqH04732; Thu, 9 Nov 2000 12:37:52 +0200 (EET) (envelope-from sobomax@FreeBSD.org) Message-ID: <3A0A7E7F.5CC4E8FF@FreeBSD.org> Date: Thu, 09 Nov 2000 12:37:51 +0200 From: Maxim Sobolev Organization: Vega International Capital X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.76 [en] (WinNT; U) X-Accept-Language: uk,ru,en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Greg Lewis Cc: "Koster, K.J." , freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: java was not found in /bin/i386/green_threads/java References: <200011082257.JAA24739@ares.trc.adelaide.edu.au> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=koi8-r Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Greg Lewis wrote: > Koster, K.J. wrote: > > > > > > Have you got Linux emulation actually on? > > > > > This is rapidly becoming a FAQ. > > > > Is there any way for the port to check that the linux-emu is up-and-running > > automatically? Nope, hypothetical you will just need to set JDK12DIR to point to the directory where native jdk12 is installed (e.g. make JDK12DIR=/usr/local/jdk1.2.2). > My other comment is that the linux-jdk port should do what all the other > Linux ports do in terms of Linux emulation.
