Just got this reply from someone else too: ----------------------------------------- are you running 5.0-current or 4.0-stable? there is support in 5.0-current for yamaha chips (definately the 724, i'm guessing the 744 too) you just need "device pcm0" in your conf. if you're running 4.0-stable, you might want to try to manually MFC the source down. the files you need are /sys/dev/sounds/pci/{ds1.c, ds1.h, ds1-fw.h} and then add dev/sound/pci/ds1.c optional pcm pci to your /sys/conf/files and build a new kernel. i have no idea if this will work... so proceed with caution and expect failure. ...bryan --------------------------------------------- I'll give it a shot, unless someone knows that I shouldn't bother. Thanks much, k -- Ken Marx, kmarx@bigshed.com Ok. I have not trying another sound app, as I don't have one/know of one. I have a Turtle Beach Tropez (classic, CS4231) I'm attempting to get my sound working well in FreeBSD 4.0.0 I got it to work using the legacy sound drivers, kernel config device snd device mss0 at isa? port 0x530 irq 7 drq 0 flags 0x13 but I get this static. I'd like to try the pcm drivers, as the man page says it supports CS4231 cards. When I load the pcm driver, I use this in my kernel config: device pcm0 at isa? irq 7 drq 0 flags 0x13 It compiles fine, and doesn't give an error when booting, but I don't get much in /dev/sndstat, nor can I use /dev/dsp. I hear nothing, and get no error. It appears that the mixer device is working, because if I turn up the stereo a lot, and I can hear line noise fade in and out when adjusting the mixer. Below is a snip from dmesg and my sndstat(shouldn't my sndstat have more stuff in it?). I use MAKEDEV snd0 after boot to create the devices. I maintain the drivers for the TV Tuner cards so I know what hardware our FreeBSD driver supports. For Nicam, the Hauppauge cards are great. I have a WinTV PCI + Nicam + FM tuner card myself. (even the Infra-Red remote control works with FXTV) And if it does not work, I've got access to the design teams in America where I can ask hardware related questions. But I have never had my hands on an AverMedia card with Nicam before and I'm expecting to have to make a few driver changes to make it work correctly. In _theory_, it can be made to work. But... we may never get it working and you have wasted your money. So, Hauppauge is your best option. It is unfortunate that AverMedia cards are cheaper than Hauppauge cards but if you want Nicam support, buy a Hauppauge. I just bought a card today that says "Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI" on the box. Well, as far as I can tell this card uses the es1371 chip. Well, I did a little digging because apparently the card's pci device id wasn't in the es137x.c file. So what I did was I put it in the file, and tried to make it configure as a 1371 chip. However I got an error when I did this: pcm0: port 0xe400-0xe43f irq 11 at device 9.0 on pci0 pcm0: ac97 codec invalid or not present (id == 0) The mixer would not configure with this, and the driver wouldn't attach, so I went to ac97.c and found the error message, and commented out the "return ENODEV" statement so that I could make it attach the driver and see what would happen. Well, when I did that, I got another error in addition to the 2 above: pcm0: ac97 codec reports dac not ready however, the driver attaached, and I can use the mixer devices, and I can play CD's, but pcm audio still won't play, and there are no errors on the console when I try to play mp3's or any other kind of sounds. So I guess my question is: is anyone working on getting the device with id 0x58801274 (the closest card originally listed in the file was: 0x50001274) to work? Or does anyone already have this card working? Ken To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message
