Tons of info. Want to try FreeBSD. But Still have questions after checking faq, tutorial, Manual. MD5 (4.4-install.iso) = 7dc237940080379760f9deac29f08384 I found the above checksum for the file I downloaded. I just don't know how to use it. I downloaded this file onto my Win98 system, but it seemed about 200 MB shy of what it was listed as being on your site. So I will try another download tonight. How do I run checksum to verify it? PS: I want to multi-boot Win95 or 2000, Linux and FreeBSD on ONE 6.5 GB drive. I saw the ref on your site about triple booting, but it is on TWO drives and seems a bit outdated. You can't very well load 95 in 45MB. I just did an install and it took 75. I think if I can work out the partitioning, I'll be set. And FreeBSD root can be 64MB, below the 528MB marker. Linux needs 2-3 partitions of its own. Any help? I've only installed Linux a few times, one as a dual boot with DOS. _____________________________________________________________ A free email account your friends will never forget! I removed the link to the bsdzine, but I really don't know what's going on there, if it's just temporarily down, or if it's down for good. I won't be providing patches for this as I volunteered to do last week. I spent the whole afternoon looking and taking notes on docproj and sys makefiles and then the SGML stuff. I think I saw all the files involved (to make one book) and only managed to convince myself that I'm not ready (or not willing anyway) to wrap my brain around this one at this early period of my makefile and SGML (and .dsl?) learning. There's no PR on this, so feel free to forget the idea. Or, I'll write a no-patch PR if you'd like. I just don't know how to use it. I downloaded this file onto my Win98 system, but it seemed about 200 MB shy of what it was listed as being on your site. So I will try another download tonight. How do I run checksum to verify it? First of all, this is the wrong list please post future questions to the 'questions@FreeBSD.org' mailing list. There should be an md5.exe program in the 'tools' directory of the FTP site. From the command prompt of your Microsoft system, just type 'md5 filename' and it will spit out a checksum that you can compare to the one given. Of course, if the file sizes aren't the same then the MD5 certainly won't be either. - Murray To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Sun Dec 9 20:57:12 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from services.webwarrior.net (overlord-host99.dsl.visi.com [209.98.86.99]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 59A5237B416; Sun, 9 Dec 2001 20:57:10 -0800 (PST) Received: from twincat.vladsempire.net (hutch-805.hutchtel.net [206.10.71.133]) by services.webwarrior.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id D575945C; Sun, 9 Dec 2001 22:57:13 -0600 (CST) Received: by twincat.vladsempire.net (Postfix, from userid 1001) id 9D76B3862; Sun, 9 Dec 2001 22:57:13 +0000 (GMT) Date: Sun, 9 Dec 2001 22:57:13 +0000 From: Josh Paetzel To: "Gary W. It is to MFC revisions 1.18-1.20 of queue.3 to RELENG_4. I'm no mdoc guru, but it looks right to me: http://www.posi.net/freebsd/patches/queue-cruft.diff More importantly, is there anything prohibiting just sync'ing queue.3 up with HEAD? I noticed the most recent commit was to use a new mdoc macro; do we use the same mdoc package in HEAD and RELENG_4? Also, is there any reason not to axe CIRCLEQs from the documentation ala rev 1.21? We don't have to axe the impementation (to avoid surprising anyone using them), but rather just don't describe them so as to reduce new code depending on them. I don't pretend to know much about our man pages, this only caught my eye because the TAILQ_HEAD() example in RELENG_4 is blatently wrong (fixed in rev 1.19). "You will need a 386 or better PC, with 5 MB or more of RAM and at least 60 MB of hard disk space. It can run with a low end MDA graphics card but to run X11R6, a VGA or better video card is needed. See also the section on Chapter 3." Obviously, the last sentence is bogus, so I go to the source to fix it. See also the section on So, why use this instead of link if you want to give specific text? It obviously isn't working. I would just use a "link", but I'm assuming that there's some bit of doc-fu I fail to grasp. ==ml -- Michael Lucas mwlucas@FreeBSD.org, mwlucas@blackhelicopters.org http://www.blackhelicopters.org/~mwlucas/ Big Scary Daemons: http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/q/Big_Scary_Daemons To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Mon Dec 10 8:49:39 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from web21103.mail.yahoo.com (web21103.mail.yahoo.com [216.136.227.105]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 9115F37B405 for ; Mon, 10 Dec 2001 08:49:36 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: <20011210164936.56710.qmail@web21103.mail.yahoo.com> Received: from [62.254.0.5] by web21103.mail.yahoo.com via HTTP; Mon, 10 Dec 2001 08:49:36 PST Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2001 08:49:36 -0800 (PST) From: Hiten Pandya Subject: Re: docbook question To: Michael Lucas Cc: doc@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: <20011210111614.A30189@blackhelicopters.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org > See also the section on > > > So, why use this instead of link if you want to give > specific text? > It obviously isn't working. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The report has been examined by a team member and evaluated. f - feedback The problem has been solved, and the originator has been given a patch or a fix has been committed. The PR remains in this state pending a response from the originator. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested. It's fine to say that We support the latest 4.x-RELEASE and -STABLE, but that doesn't help a guy who is forced to run a 3.3 box because he just can't take it down. How about a list (or a branch as it were) for back ported security patches. The FreeBSD security maintanance branch. List in that all versions of FreeBSD that are up to date as far as security patches go. Drop them out if something comes up that isn't going to make it back to that particular release. This is really a rough first time impression, but maybe enough for us to chew on.
