I've been using the vmware2 port for a year or so with few problems. However, after making several changes to my machine, I'm having a problem. When I click on poweron, everything freezes for 10 seconds or so, then my machine reboots.. no panic with coredump - just a reboot. About a week ago, I upgraded from XF86-3.3.6 to 4. VMware worked just after that, so I don't think it's related. I've also moved my mouse from the PS/2 port (with an adapter) to a USB port, but again vmware worked just after that (I had to specify the mouse device and protocol). It seems to have started just after trying the suspend option... after suspending and restarting vmware, it would crash. I eventually got vmware to power on once after that by fiddling with the configuration files so that I didn't have to resume the saved session. But, since then I haven't been able to power the vm on. I've tried deinstalling and reinstalling vmware, but that didn't help. Any other suggestions? I'm getting desperate to get this working again. Thank you. -matthew To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-emulation" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-emulation Thu Jul 5 10:57:28 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Received: from rip.psg.com (rip.psg.com [147.28.0.39]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 05DCB37B405 for ; Thu, 5 Jul 2001 10:57:27 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from randy@psg.com) Received: from randy by rip.psg.com with local (Exim 3.30 #1) id 15IDNU-0004K9-00; Thu, 05 Jul 2001 10:57:24 -0700 From: Randy Bush MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit To: Stephen White Cc: freebsd emulator list Subject: Re: "cpu disabled" in vmware References: <200107051616.MAA14826@carina.astro.umd.edu> Message-Id: Date: Thu, 05 Jul 2001 10:57:24 -0700 Sender: owner-freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org > I see you posted a query about this problem in the freebsd news group > but I didn't see a reply - did you figure out what the cause was? i disabled speed step randy To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-emulation" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-emulation Thu Jul 5 12:27:49 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Received: from freebsd.shopcusa.com (freebsd.shopcusa.com [63.204.212.158]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A814337B401 for ; Thu, 5 Jul 2001 12:27:46 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from webmaster@shopcusa.com) Received: (from root@localhost) by freebsd.shopcusa.com (8.11.4/8.11.3) id f65JWC603156 for freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org; Thu, 5 Jul 2001 12:32:12 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from webmaster@shopcusa.com) Received: from webmaster (webmaster.clayton.shopcusa.com [192.168.0.2]) by freebsd.shopcusa.com (8.11.4/8.11.3av) with SMTP id f65JWCE03147 for ; Thu, 5 Jul 2001 12:32:12 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from webmaster@shopcusa.com) From: "ComputersUSA! Previously, I was using Opera 5.0b16 (IIRC), installed from FreeBSD ports, and I was using the Linux flash player plugin, also from ports. I simply had to symlink libflashplayer.so to /usr/local/share/opera/plugins (again, IIRC, but somewhere there was a opera plugins directory where I could symlink to), and voila, Opera could show flash animations. Today I cvsupped my ports and was happy to find that now the port for Opera has been upgraded to 5.0 release. So I pkg_deleted my old Opera installation and installed the new one, again via ports. Now, the new port does no longer install a "plugins" directory. By using truss, I found out that the new Opera version is now searching for plugins in /usr/lib/opera/plugins. So I created this directory and symlinked (also tried to copy) the flash player plugin and the ShockWave.class file there. But it does not work. I see that Opera finds the file and does something with it: linux_open("/usr/lib/opera/plugins/libflashplayer.so",0,05041052214) =3D 3 (0x3) linux_newfstat(8,0xbfbfd918) =3D 2 (0x2) read(0x8,0xbfbfc96c,0x1000) =3D 3 (0x3) linux_mmap(0xbfbfc90c) =3D 1 (0x1) mprotect(0x289ac000,0x425fc,0x0) =3D 3 (0x3) linux_mmap(0xbfbfc90c) =3D 1 (0x1) linux_mmap(0xbfbfc90c) =3D 1 (0x1) close(8) =3D 1 (0x1) mprotect(0x28908000,0xa4000,0x3) =3D 3 (0x3) munmap(0x28908000,0xe65fc) =3D 2 (0x2) But it still refuses to play flash plugins, and the plugin list under "appearanaces" is empty. Is this actually a bug in the new port (I think at least that it no longer installs a plugin directory is a problem with the port), a bug in the newer version of Opera, or one in the Linux emulation?
