I4b users who are using the kernel level PPP driver (isp) interfaces cannot use spppcontrol anymore but _must_ use ispppcontrol to configure the isp interfaces. This also means, that it is no longer possible to use the sppp* keywords in rc.conf, instead use ispppcontrol in your shell scripts or use isdnd.rc to configure the isp interfaces. AFAIK, also here in Italy there is the major telecommunication company formerly stae owned..) which allows sending SMS over telephone lines. It is not necessary to have an ISDN link, i have been informed that the only phone on sale for the moment which supports this feature is an analogic one, and if you want to use it over ISDN you need a TA with analogic I/O connection to the "inner world" where inner means user side.. I know that the SMS over copper wire actually uses an SMS center ( SMC: Service Message Center ), so i think that it is useless to think ISDN, actually it should work more or less like a GSM Mobile phone, so why bother ISDN? In Italy the SMC is a Telecom Italia number , and the "noise" you hear when the system is working looks like a modem that connects to a number, then delivers a bunch of bits, then disconnects after receiving o.k. More or less like a fax with intermediate redirection. Anyway this 'feels' like following sequence: User sends to SMC : 1) Delivery Number 2) Message SMC receives 1+2 and acknowledges. SMC delivers to 1) the payload 2) SMC bills User for the service I have seen a fantastic software i do use on my portable ( yeeechhhh Windoze 20000, but it's corporate property, so it's free and at home I can use FreeBSD ). The software uses a proprietary library, and is able to connect via a modem to a land service center. Maybe that the gentleman who wrote the jewel can give us a bit of info. Anyway I am sure that a SMC is required, because nobody can use a service for free, and to bill for a service a company needs tahat all messages passes trough an SMC. Hope info are useful outta there, even if those are not technical. The site for the software is http://www.derdack.com Best Regards Pietro Lauro To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Mon Aug 13 8: 1:57 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from ovbis10.ovb.ch (ovbis10.ovb.ch [195.65.24.140]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B989937B40D for ; Mon, 13 Aug 2001 08:01:53 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from ovb@ovb.ch) Received: from ovbis01.ovb.ch ([195.65.24.144] helo=exxapp2.ecsco.com) by ovbis10.ovb.ch with smtp (Exim 3.32 #2) id 15WJDz-000C8y-00; Mon, 13 Aug 2001 17:01:51 +0200 To: Pietro Lauro Cc: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org, ovb@ovb.ch From: Oliver von Bueren Subject: Re: SMS per ISDN Date: Mon, 13 Aug 2001 15:01:51 GMT X-Mailer: Endymion MailMan Professional Edition v3.0.35.ovb Message-Id: Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi Pietro. > I know that the SMS over copper wire actually uses an SMS center ( SMC: > Service Message Center ), so i think that it is useless to think ISDN, > actually it should work more or less like a GSM Mobile phone, so why bother > ISDN? I think you did not get the point here. I know that it's possible to send SMS over Modem to a mobile through a special number, also via ISDN, which uses V.120 on the B-Channel to transfer the data. This exists since many years here in Switzerland too. The hole thing it is all about is to send SMS over the D-Channel (that's the one used for signaling, B-Channel is the data channel) without the need to setup a connection to a service center. That an SMC is used is not the main issue here, as this will probably be the same as on the mobile. BTW: You don't establish a data connection while sending SMS on the mobile eighter, it's also done through the signaling. To demonstrate this, it's possible to send and receive SMS while you're talking on the mobile. Which would not work if a data connection is needed to transfer an SMS. Anyway You are right, I did not get the point..... Hmmmm .... it is a very interesting idea, to use the D-16k channel in order to transfer a data packet trough ISDN connection. There are at least two " Web on Demand " application /packages I am aware of that do use such a functional scheme, I'll ask if the idea is to implement a sort of "callback" trough the receiving of signals on D-Channel, or it is a real receiving of Data Packet then processed by the software and thus more looking like what we are searching for. Is there something I can help on? Please send me further details to let me help. The message lengths for CONNECT_REQ and CONNECT_IND are incorrect, which causes dialouts to fail after certain error situations (an invalid -- not wrong! -- number has been dialed). Since these messages are tagged as too short, the device reads trailing garbage as the B protocol parameters; this is OK as long as the garbage consists of zero bytes, which it usually does, except after the said error. Another change we have taken into use is to send an explicit Q.850 "normal call clearing" code when a call is ignored using PRI equipment (specifically AVM T1); the CAPI pseudo-code for ignore, 1, translates into something at least Ericsson exchanges interpret oddly (message "this area is not reachable from your number"). NCCLR makes the exchange give a busy signal, which is the behaviour at least we prefer (conceivably, the ignore code could be made a sysctl variable). The attached patch corrects the message length issue. It also includes a somewhat unpretty solution for the PRI ignore code (if device's number of channels equals 30, assume PRI and send NCCLR, otherwise send CAPI ignore). Tested using AVM B1 PCI and T1 PCI.
