SRM is *very* restricted without entering the right password. Taekram 390F ( 53C875 Chipset) (only revision 2.2, 3.0 is not known to work) (some chipsets miss?) Now my question. I'm able to get a MAX 875 Controller (symbios 875 chipset). Someone knows if other 875 controllers are bootable from my alpha (AlphaPC 146LX) except the 390f (Maybe someone hase the MAX 875? ;)? And what are the differences between the 2.2 and 3.0 revision? E.g. when 5 minutes has elapsed according to the system time, 10 minutes has passed on the clock. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I might fix this, or on what I'm doing wrong :) I've seen this in -current kernels for about the past week, but not in the -current kernel I built about 2 months ago, nor in a -stable one. It may have been occuring before this, but I haven't had access to the machine for about the prior two months. I've attached the dmesg output and the kernel configuration I'm using. I've also tried without the CLK_USE_I8254_CALIBRATION option, with the same result. The only other thing which has changed is that the machine has moved from the CST timezone to NZST. I made some half hearted attempts to fix it about 1 year ago but I never made any progress... John overhauled the SMP timekeepking code within the last year or so & he may understand the problem. In general an 875 should work in every chip revision, but it's always possible for a card manufacturer to break this. Noname cards and original Symbios cards have done best in my expirience. -- B.Walter COSMO-Project http://www.cosmo-project.de ticso@cicely.de Usergroup info@cosmo-project.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-alpha" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-alpha Mon Jun 17 16:30:12 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from dragon.nuxi.com (trang.nuxi.com [66.92.13.169]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CEC7037B408 for ; Mon, 17 Jun 2002 16:30:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: from dragon.nuxi.com (obrien@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dragon.nuxi.com (8.12.3/8.12.2) with ESMTP id g5HNTwP8046664; Mon, 17 Jun 2002 16:29:58 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from obrien@dragon.nuxi.com) Received: (from obrien@localhost) by dragon.nuxi.com (8.12.3/8.12.3/Submit) id g5HNTutA046663; Mon, 17 Jun 2002 16:29:56 -0700 (PDT) Date: Mon, 17 Jun 2002 16:29:56 -0700 From: "David O'Brien" To: Oliver Lehmann Cc: alpha@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: Boot from scsi Message-ID: <20020617162956.A46624@dragon.nuxi.com> Reply-To: obrien@FreeBSD.org Mail-Followup-To: David O'Brien , Oliver Lehmann , alpha@FreeBSD.org References: <20020617203402.69ff1348.lehmann@ans-netz.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5i In-Reply-To: <20020617203402.69ff1348.lehmann@ans-netz.de>; from lehmann@ans-netz.de on Mon, Jun 17, 2002 at 08:34:02PM +0200 X-Operating-System: FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT Organization: The NUXI BSD group X-Pgp-Rsa-Fingerprint: B7 4D 3E E9 11 39 5F A3 90 76 5D 69 58 D9 98 7A X-Pgp-Rsa-Keyid: 1024/34F9F9D5 Sender: owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Mon, Jun 17, 2002 at 08:34:02PM +0200, Oliver Lehmann wrote: > So, I'm searching for an SCSI controller which is bootable. Ie, I haven't seen a NCR/Symbios/LSI controller that won't work execpt for the Diamond Fireport ones. Certainly no `generic' one. Also add to your list Seagate 2940UW (if you have recent SRM). It's known that on some machines the serial fails after breaking into debugger and rebooting from there - you need a hard reset in that case. E.g. on PC164. Can you echo foo > /dev/console and/or echo foo > /dev/ttyd0 ? Do you see kernel messages? e.g. tcpdump and look out for promiscuous message. The sio flags are irelevant as the important ones are only checked at kernel start. -- B.Walter COSMO-Project http://www.cosmo-project.de ticso@cicely.de Usergroup info@cosmo-project.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-alpha" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-alpha Wed Jun 19 22:20:27 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@hub.freebsd.org Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8D08437B406 for ; Wed, 19 Jun 2002 22:20:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.11.6/8.11.6) id g5K5K1x89608; Wed, 19 Jun 2002 22:20:01 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats) Received: from nwww.freebsd.org (www.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.117]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0BF5F37B414 for ; Wed, 19 Jun 2002 22:11:55 -0700 (PDT) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by nwww.freebsd.org (8.12.2/8.12.2) with ESMTP id g5K5BnhG066018 for ; Wed, 19 Jun 2002 22:11:49 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.12.2/8.12.2/Submit) id g5K5BnZY066017; Wed, 19 Jun 2002 22:11:49 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200206200511.g5K5BnZY066017@www.freebsd.org> Date: Wed, 19 Jun 2002 22:11:49 -0700 (PDT) From: Andrew J Forgue To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-1.0 Subject: alpha/39560: unaligned access in wihap_input_data ( wi_hostap.c ) Sender: owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org >Number: 39560 >Category: alpha >Synopsis: unaligned access in wihap_input_data ( wi_hostap.c ) >Confidential: no >Severity: critical >Priority: high >Responsible: freebsd-alpha >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: sw-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Wed Jun 19 22:20:01 PDT 2002 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Andrew J Forgue >Release: 4.6-STABLE >Organization: >Environment: FreeBSD thunder.home.agitated.net 4.6-STABLE FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE #0: Thu Jun 20 00:39:29 EDT 2002 root@thunder.home.agitated.net:/usr/src/sys/compile/thunder alpha >Description: While running the new hostap code for the PRISM Chipset, configuration of the card for hostap goes normal, but as soon as any network card is trying to use it as an AP, the kernel panics with the below information 0x4 (unaligned trap). Anyway, I blew everything away (bec my world and kernel weren't in sync) and installed a SNAPSHOT from: ftp.jp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/snapshots/alpha/5.0-20020330-SNAP/. This was the last SNAPSHOT that the Japanese site offered. My Question: What is the stability of -CURRENT like at the moment on Alpha ? I going to sup' a co my src and build a new world and kernel on the weekend BUT if you guys recommend not to, I'll wait until things get a bit more stable. Is it because no one has got a working world/kernel for -CURRENT since March 2002 that a newer SNAPSHOT has not been made ? Thoughts ? Recommendations ? - Alex To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-alpha" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-alpha Fri Jun 21 5:37:40 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from courriel.etsmtl.ca (courriel.etsmtl.ca [142.137.3.24]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6B07E37B40D for ; Fri, 21 Jun 2002 05:37:33 -0700 (PDT) Received: from dactyl (142.137.20.176 [142.137.20.176]) by courriel.etsmtl.ca with SMTP (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service Version 5.5.2653.13) id MAQKTM1M; Fri, 21 Jun 2002 08:37:24 -0400 From: "Normand Leclerc" To: Subject: RE: Serial console dying, 4.5 - 4.6 Date: Fri, 21 Jun 2002 08:37:11 -0400 Message-ID: <000501c21920$5fefe3c0$b014898e@dactyl> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook, Build 10.0.3416 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000 Importance: Normal In-Reply-To: <20020619130607.GM43253@cicely5.cicely.de> Sender: owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Yes, I can see messages from echo to console and ttyd0 and I can see kernel messages. Everything I've seen so far (including HARDWARE.TXT) says it probably wont be recognized by the SRM (although I saw 1 post to the contrary) I don't have the board yet, so I havn't tested it. If it doesn't get recognized, what options do I have? I have 2 seagate lvd cheetahs that I'd really like to use at their full potential, ie U2W,LVD. Can I set up to boot my installed sytem off floppies?? Inconvenient i imagine, butr then again I don't reboot much. I also have a cdrom and a cdwriter that I would want to put on a second scsi bus - Right now in linux i386 I have them on an advansys, but I also have available a buslogic flashpoint. I didn't see these in the alpha hardware list; is this just because they are not bootable, or are they not at all usable? Thank's for your help! I hope I can get this going, and not have to add to the pile of hardware I already have!
