I can post my kernel configuration if needed. I've added the device pcm and device sbc lines to it. Information on both ISA devices are shown when the box is starting up (it shows that Audio device uses IRQ 5, and the USR Modem uses IRQ 3), but dmesg|grep pcm returns with nothing. It the BIOS setup, "PNP OS Installed" option is set to NO. From dmesg, there is no devices that uses IRQ 5. I've gotten this box to with Linux and AWE64 was recognize as PnP device on IRQ 5. What else can I do to get this soundcard to work? Thanks, David __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yanking the card and using anything else I have, (Crystal Semiconductor on Dell MB, ES1371 on PCI), everything works perfectly. Considering the origins of the driver for this card it might be hard to fix the driver. But maybe not? Sound cards are cheap so normally I'd simply toss the cards (all 20 of them) rather than fight the driver. But in this case we are using an embedded PC with one PCI slot at 3.3 volts. This Aureal card was selected mostly because it was 3.3 volt compatible. And then found to be FreeBSD compatible (or so we thought). And stopped looking. To the question boils down to: 1) might the Aureal driver be fixed? Or 2) anybody know of a good 3.3 volt PCI soundcard? -- David Kelly N4HHE, dkelly@hiwaay.net ===================================================================== The human mind ordinarily operates at only ten percent of its capacity -- the rest is overhead for the operating system. I have solved this problem, thanks to the webplayer board at http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowBoard&Board=vwgeneral&Idle=&Sort=&Order=&Session= the reason audio out doesn't work is that by default the line is not muted. It must be muted to play audio. Using FreeBSD, the audio may be muted by mixer line 0:0 You can include the mixer in your PicoBSD setup, if you're using PicoBSD. I am now able to play mpeg audio files and wav files via the speakers and headphones on my webplayer. Support for the ich can be had by: adding 'device pcm' to your kernel config and installing the freshly built kernel or: adding 'snd_ich_load="yes"' to /boot/loader.conf. The driver will be loaded at boot time as kernel loadable module. The appropriate device entries need to be made with: # cd /dev # ./MAKEDEV snd0 | and what is the best config for a matrox 450? I don't know the specifics of this card, but to get started, install X 4.2 from ports and then as root run "XFree86 -configure". This should probe the system and generate a usable XF86Config file. If anybody on the list has one of these cards and wants to post their config... In xmixer, the "X" (on top of a microphone icon) on the bottom center indicates a channel which can be set as a recording input but isn't currently enabled.
