I have a brooktree based pixelview tv tuner card. The notes for the fxtv port say that it supports a pixelview remote. I am unable to get this working. Despite the remote not working fxtv itself is working fine. I was wondering if I can to create a device of some sort for the remote? The card I have is a pixelview/prolink model. he actual model number is PV-BT878P+ (Rev.9D). I'm using the command line /usr/X11R6/bin/fxtv -remoteType PixelView I've even appended: -debug remote to the command to see if I'm getting anything from the remote control. I'm getting nothing. Is there anything further I can provide that will give more information about why this isn't working? The supplied remote control works fine with the bundled windows-based TV tuner software. Is it possible to use these sorts of remotes for other system functions? Thanks, PJ http://digital.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Digital How To - Get the best out of your PC! Ross, if I'm understanding you correctly, you need to (a) remove the sbc device and (b) put this line in /boot/loader.conf: snd_maestro3_load="YES" and reboot. You could try a 'kldload snd_maestro3' from the command-line, but I think the 'sbc' might stuff it up. The PNPBIOS stuff is optional - maybe it'll help with some other device, maybe not, but it isn't your problem here. I don't run it. BTW, what for you want to capture audio on a cheesy audio device like this? ;-) HTH. Actually, I don't bother putting anything in the kernel for 'pcm' these days, although I don't think it hurts if you do - KLDs will auto-load any dependancies, in this case the 'snd_pcm' KLD. > Anyway, many thanks for your help. I used to listen to Loveline avidly driving home from work fr a while there... :-) Actually, the ESS isn't so bad... I find that it sometimes generates awful amounts of hiss - I put up with this for ages until I found that turning down all the unused inputs/outputs (especially PC speaker) fixes this. Also, on recent -stable, I find that post-boot or post-resume, the Master Output is set to 0 - you can use 'mixer' commands in your .xinitrc or rc.resume to take care of this, or I like 'wmix' (OSD mixer dockapp for WindowMaker) for interactive use. Its current relevant specs: 1200 MHz AMD Duron Soyo K7V Dragon + built-in CMI 8738 512 MB PC133 RAM Brooktree bt878 card The CPU is definitely fast enough for my needs, but there are two other problems: 1) I can't capture above 320x240, if I try the machine locks up solid. I've seen others on freebsd-multimedia attribute this to the VIA KT266A chipset. 2) the on-board CMI 8738 audio chip seems to initialize at the wrong rate some of the time, which leads to gradual audio sync drift. I'm using the ffmpeg port which was distributed by Alex Teslik here on -multimedia. I've also used fxtv, which had the same problems. So does anyone have suggestions as to what motherboard/soundcard combos work Every Time? Any success stories of 640x480 capture? I wonder if the bktr driver can use that directly... Actually that's the FM tuner part of the BT878 chipset. Interestingly, you can still listen to the radio with apps like wmtune, but you will not be able to recieve stereo TV signals. You'll still get mono audio in FXTV. -- \ |_ _|__ __|_ \ __| Jason Andresen jandrese@mitre.org |\/ | | | / _| Network and Distributed Systems Engineer _| _|___| _| _|_\___| Office: 703-883-7755 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Mon Aug 26 13:23:41 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7CB2D37B400 for ; Mon, 26 Aug 2002 13:23:40 -0700 (PDT) Received: from aragorn.neomedia.it (aragorn.neomedia.it [195.103.207.6]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0B85E43E3B for ; Mon, 26 Aug 2002 13:23:39 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from bartequi@neomedia.it) Received: from localhost (aragorn.neomedia.it [195.120.250.6] (may be forged)) by aragorn.neomedia.it (8.12.3/8.12.3) with ESMTP id g7QKNaaY031609 for ; Mon, 26 Aug 2002 22:23:37 +0200 (CEST) Received: from 213.144.203.13 ([213.144.203.13]) by webmail.neomedia.it (IMP) with HTTP for ; Mon, 26 Aug 2002 22:23:36 +0200 Message-ID: <1030393416.3d6a8e48d2f90@webmail.neomedia.it> Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 22:23:36 +0200 From: Salvo Bartolotta To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: VideoLogic SonicFury... There is the option of trying out the drivers from 4Front Technology (http://www.opensound.com). You will need to rebuild your kernel with no sound driver and then install theirs. If it works, you will need to pay them about $15. Of course this may not address the problem for others that run into it. Hmm. You have anything else claiming that interrupt? dmesg? Hope they work better now than they did when I tried to use them for an AWE-64 (admittedly many moons ago now). At that time, they would panic the kernel, and their support dept. was a black hole after the initial request for information.
