I've got a naggin little problem with mplayer. If I use xv as video-output I get small jitters in the playback. If I use sdl, but I can't change brightness/contrast and thus the playback is very dark. Any ideas why xv behaves so oddly, shouldn't it give the best performance? (I've got at Matrox G400)? And where/how do I configure SDL? There is no 'man sdl', the documentation in /usr/local/share/doc are for delelopers and I can't find any config-files? Is it possible to adjust brightness/contrast/gamma in SDL? In my machine, I've got 2 soundcards. One of them is on the motherboard, an Intel ICH2. But there is a very interesting problem: in the game Rocks'n'Diamonds (/usr/ports/games/rocksndiamonds), with the ICH "card", there is sound, and effects, etc. But with the Yamaha card, there is nothing, but very much kernel messages on the console: pcm0:play:1: play interrupt timeout, channel dead What can I do, to use the better sound card, and hear the sound of that game? (Everything else is OK, I can play MP3s, MIDs, MODs, etc with it.) Hmm, doesn't look like xvinfo are reporting anything unusual, mplayer doesn't bark when using xv, /var/log/XFree86.0.log tells xvideo is initialised and no, there is no difference in CPU-load between sdl and xv and finally ogle (and other apps) uses xv without the small jitters. How can I set the XV_BRIGHTNESS variable? If I could set this, I might be able to use another player instead of mplayer. This version fixes some bugs and probably introduces others. ;-) Therefore, we need to test it to make sure it works for the broadest audiance. The great addition in this version is Windows Media Video 9 (WMV9) and new API for Direct Media Object. These changes only work for i386 users. Others, alpha and sparc64 users, out there cannot use WMV9 just yet. Therefore, you will need to install a new version of win32-codecs port to support WMV9 codecs. And, a new version of avifile port. Bear in mind that it might not work well. Let's try to narrow down the bugs. Currently, I was able to play pretty much everything I did before. But it seems that avifile core dumps when trying to play xvid files with AC3 sound. Could anyone try reproducing these? - win32-codecs with WMV9 codecs http://people.FreeBSD.org/~lioux/win32-codecs.tar.gz - avifile updated for WMV9 (version 0.7.22.20021129) http://people.FreeBSD.org/~lioux/avifile.tar.gz Regards, -- Mario S F Ferreira - DF - Brazil - "I guess this is a signature."
