Both of these messages are related to sendmail activity that is being blocked. You shouldn't be filtering your loopback, I would suggest something like this to get rid of those messages. ################################################################## # Basic setup - enable loopback, block 127/8 from non-loopback ################################################################## ${fwcmd} add 100 pass all from any to any via lo0 ${fwcmd} add 200 deny all from any to 127.0.0.0/8 ${fwcmd} add 300 deny ip from 127.0.0.0/8 to any The ::0001: are ipv6 addresses - I've never played with these so I can't give you any advice. Please direct all technical questions there. We are all a bunch of newbies, which means we don't know what we are talking about. It's possible to screw up your XF86Config file in such a way that will DESTROY your monitor. So get advice from the experts. Hint: I've got an Optiplex GX240, Rage128 Pro, and FreeBSD 4.5. Very similar. Use XFree86-4.2 instead of 3.3.6 with this card, and the driver is "ati". Saying the kernel of the machine with name "webserver" sent a signal "seg_fault" to the application, stopped the application, removed it from memory and stored a core dump of it on your hard drive. cc1 is part of the GNU compiler collection (gcc). If you didn't compile anything on Jun 15 at 16:52:12 on that machine (as user root!) I would get worried. Obviously the compilation didn't finish well. Signal 11 says segmentation fault, the application accessed a memory area it wasn't allowed to. It is unlikely that a gcc programm does such a thing "by nature". This might indicate bad hardware (e.g. a memory problem). See also a sig-11 FAQ e.g. at http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11/ This question might get better answers on freebsd-questions. I╢m trying to install FreeBSD 4.3 at my system, but I have a doubt about partitions creation. I have to create one partition for Windows (primary), one for Linux Swap (also primary), one for my files (FAT32, can be extended) and one for linux (ext2, can be extended too). What is FreeBSD╢s native partition type? Can I install it in an FAT or ext2 partition? Could you help me to solve this problem? Which partitions you advise me to create? What is FreeBSD╢s native partition > type? Can I install it in an FAT or ext2 partition? > Could you help me to solve this problem? Which > partitions you advise me to create? One harddrive or two? I definitely recommend two. Here is my setup at home: (all are primary partitions) ad0s1 - Windows C: ad0s2 - FreeBSD swap ad0s3 - Linux ext2 ad0s4 - Windows D: (shared data for all OSes (Windows hates multiple primary partitions, you have to create this under Linux or FreeBSD)) ad1s1 - FreeBSD / ad1s2 - Linux swap ad1s3 - FreeBSD /usr ad1s4 - FreeBSD (for backups, mp3s, wallpapers, burning ISOs, etc) For your FreeBSD partitions, just create FAT partitions as placeholders, then you can delete and recreate them in the FreeBSD installer. NOTE: FreeBSD cannot be installed in an extended partition. Save your extended partitions for less discriminating systems like Windows and Linux. READ THE HANDBOOK FIRST! It has a nice section on partitioning the harddrive with examples. David p.s. Notice how I have the the OS and swap partitions on separate drives. This improves your performance if you have to hit swap. p.p.s. FreeBSD-4.6 was released yesterday. You're three releases behind :-) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-newbies" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-newbies Tue Jun 18 5:42:26 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-newbies@freebsd.org Received: from alvin.unc.edu.ar (alvin.unc.edu.ar [170.210.248.4]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CE9BA37B404 for ; Tue, 18 Jun 2002 05:42:17 -0700 (PDT) Received: from gtwing.efn.uncor.edu (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by alvin.unc.edu.ar (8.11.6/8.11.6) with ESMTP id g5ICgBn26909 for ; Tue, 18 Jun 2002 09:42:11 -0300 Received: from lcd.efn.uncor.edu (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by gtwing.efn.uncor.edu (8.11.6/linuxconf) with ESMTP id g5ICiIR03031 for ; Tue, 18 Jun 2002 09:44:18 -0300 Received: from localhost (meschoyez@localhost) by lcd.efn.uncor.edu (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id JAA19091; Tue, 18 Jun 2002 09:02:15 -0300 X-Authentication-Warning: lcd.efn.uncor.edu: meschoyez owned process doing -bs Date: Tue, 18 Jun 2002 09:02:14 -0300 (ART) From: Max X-Sender: meschoyez@lcd.efn.uncor.edu To: AZNPrideChinese@worldnet.att.net Cc: newbies@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: mounting cd rom In-Reply-To: <3D0C6806.152B9663@optusnet.com.au> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: QUOTED-PRINTABLE Sender: owner-freebsd-newbies@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org -> > how do i mount cd rom that has a music cd in it? i tried the command -> > mount -t cd9660 -o ro /dev/acd0c /cdrom -> > that command works for all the cd except for music cds, is there a spe= cial -> > command to mount music cd? ->=20 -> You normally don't mount a CD directly to play music. We realize every freight forwarder is different and therefore they have many different needs from each other, the only way to satisfy all the freight forwarders was to give them the ability to satisfy themselves in a quick and easy fashion, you can of course also create your own reports and even create your own lists. Since this is an SQL system you will not have to worry about speed or number of users and we supply MSDE for those with less than 15 users you do not have to go to the expense of the SQL server costs. Stand Alone costs $3,995.00 additional licenses are $1,595.00 each. Intuitive Warehouse can work as a stand-alone or integrate with IT 2.4 this system can keep track of all your freight received and distributed in and out of the warehouse, even down to the items inside the box. A site license is only $695.00 and no cost for integration into IT 2.4. You can also check out our web work, we are the designers for World Cargo Alliance website www.worldcargoalliance.com this is a database driven website that services the firms 400 member freight forwarders. We also have developed and manage for WCA their meeting scheduler that allows all their members attending their annual and regional conferences to make appointments with the other attendees, we made a very big mess a very simple and successful part of the WCA Network, we just recently completed their new CostAid a pricing application that gives their members their true costs were a person in India can instantly quote a shipment Singapore to Boulder, Colorado or vise a versa. These are just a few examples of what we can bring to your business or network. Our monthly maintenance and support fee is only $35.00 per user per month and this amount includes their support, training and upgrades. Your firm has been approved to open an account with us and be able to purchase our products and you can take advantage of cash discounts or finance through us at fair interest rates depending on the terms of finance you select. There is no additional credit check, you are guaranteed approval as long as you respond to this email within 15 days from receipt and purchase products within another 30 days, after that time we of course would have to review the situation. We hope that you take advantage of this approval and contact Dennis McGibbon in our sales department whom will be pleased to complete the process of setting up your account and determining which of our products will best fit your needs. Job control relates to jobs started from a shell; when you open another virtual terminal and log in, you have another shell running that does not, as far as I know, have access to the jobs run under the other shell. So as far as I know, you can't do this. But perhaps someone on freebsd-questions would have a suggestion about this. They are there, they stay there (unless you reboot or something, of course), you get to the several of them by alt-f1, or alt-f7, whicheverone you want to get to. It is also available at http://www.welearn.com.au/freebsd/newbies/) FreeBSD-Questions@FreeBSD.ORG is the place to send all questions about installing, configuring, running and using FreeBSD. All help requests are handled by FreeBSD-Questions, including newbies questions. FreeBSD-Newbies is different. We don't ask for help or answer how-to questions. It is a discussion forum for newbies. FreeBSD-Newbies provides a place for new FreeBSD users to meet and covers any of the activities of newbies that are not already dealt with elsewhere. Examples include helping each other to learn more on our own, finding and using resources, problem solving techniques, how to seek help elsewhere, how to use mailing lists and which lists to use, general chat, making mistakes, boasting, sharing ideas, stories, moral (but not technical) support, and taking an active part in the FreeBSD community. We take our problems and support questions to freebsd-questions, and use freebsd-newbies to meet others who are doing the same things that we do as newbies. One of the things we do together is learn more effective ways to find help when we need it. Here are some suggestions: When something doesn't work the way you expect 1. First look at the errata for your release of FreeBSD at http://www.FreeBSD.ORG/releases/ for the latest information and security advisories. 2. Search the Handbook, FAQ, and mail archives at http://www.FreeBSD.ORG/search.html 3. If you still have a question or problem, collect the output of `uname -a' and of any relevant program(s) and email your question to FreeBSD-questions@FreeBSD.ORG. Mailing lists When you have a problem that you can't solve by yourself, there's only one support mailing list and that's FreeBSD-questions@FreeBSD.ORG. FreeBSD-questions helps with installation and basic setup as well as more general and advanced questions. You don't have to actually join freebsd-questions before asking a question there. Replies to your question will normally be sent to you personally as well as to the list. Just make sure you have read and followed the guidelines for posting, because you might find them different to what you're used to. If you do subscribe to freebsd-questions you'll have the advantage of seeing all of the recent questions and their answers. Before you post to FreeBSD-questions, please read the guidelines at http://www.lemis.com/questions.html Many of the people who answer FreeBSD-questions are very knowledgeable, but they get frustrated when they get questions which are difficult to understand. http://www.lemis.com/email.html is worth reading too. If you're not sure that you can follow these guidelines, come back and ask the other newbies for help on how to post an effective question to the support mailing list. Maybe your question has been asked before. If you search the mailing list archives at http://www.freebsd.org/search.html first you might get the answer right away. It's always worth trying. Other mailing lists (http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/eresources.html#ERESOURCES-CHARTERS) cover specialised areas and many are more developer-oriented. You'll need to read their charters carefully before participating, but it's probably a good idea to ask on either -newbies or -questions for advice about where to post a more specialised question. FreeBSD-announce is a very low volume read-only list for occasional announcements, such as notice of new releases, and the Really Quick Newsletter. It's worth subscribing to FreeBSD-announce too. Manuals You'll always be expected to show that you have made some effort to use the available documentation before asking for help. That's not always as easy as it sounds! If you know what documentation you need but can't locate it, send a brief query to FreeBSD-questions. If you don't know what you need, always have trouble finding it, or can't make any sense of it when you do, ask some patient newbies to steer you in the right direction. Anyone interested in writing or reviewing documentation for FreeBSD is encouraged to join the FreeBSD Documentation Project. Details are at http://www.freebsd.org/docproj/docproj.html Other resources A resource list is available at http://www.freebsd.org/projects/newbies.html to help new and inexperienced FreeBSD users to find relevant information quickly. It includes books, on line documents and tutorials, and links to web pages that other newbies have found useful for learning. If you have a suggestion for good material to be included, please write to freebsd-newbies and tell us about it. But I have seen people asking questions here! It is quite common for people to send the wrong kind of post to a mailing list. Because we're newbies it'll certainly happen here from time to time. The best thing to do if you see a message that doesn't belong on a list is to ignore it. There's always someone around whose job it is to sort these problems out privately. The posts to the lists go straight through, whatever their content. It is going to be confusing for a little while because we're all newbies so we all make mistakes. That's OK. One thing we're going to see a fair bit is people posting questions, believing they're doing the right thing by posting here as newbies, not realising how it works. If someone answers those questions the situation will snowball. There's nothing wrong with helping someone to redirect their question to freebsd-questions, but please do so gently. There's nothing wrong with the occasional mistake either. So all questions, requests for help, etc still go to freebsd-questions as usual. Ours is more of a discussion group, a place where newbies can relax with other newbies and focus more on our successes than on our temporary imperfection. We can talk about things here that are not allowed on freebsd-questions.
