Needs to be fixed and would be nice, but not critical for 4.6.1 - RC's built with -march=i686 - ask Murray if so.. I'm trying to work on READ_BIG when not fighting other fires today. Can you verify if these various drives use the same manufacturer and/or did 4.5 work ok on these machines? The one I had here 4.5 worked ok just 4.6 died. Also, if you have a machine available that this is reproducible on, can you see if 4.6.1-RC2 images have the same problem? Thanks tons for the confirm. > -Chris -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve!" - http://www.FreeBSD.org/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-qa" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-qa Thu Jul 25 11:53:17 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 706D537B406 for ; Thu, 25 Jul 2002 11:52:45 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail.speakeasy.net (mail11.speakeasy.net [216.254.0.211]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 11AAF43E72 for ; Thu, 25 Jul 2002 11:52:44 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jhb@FreeBSD.org) Received: (qmail 4530 invoked from network); 25 Jul 2002 18:52:39 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO server.baldwin.cx) ([216.27.160.63]) (envelope-sender ) by mail11.speakeasy.net (qmail-ldap-1.03) with DES-CBC3-SHA encrypted SMTP for ; 25 Jul 2002 18:52:39 -0000 Received: from laptop.baldwin.cx (gw1.twc.weather.com [216.133.140.1]) by server.baldwin.cx (8.12.5/8.12.5) with ESMTP id g6PIqcuR040045; Thu, 25 Jul 2002 14:52:38 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from jhb@FreeBSD.org) Message-ID: X-Mailer: XFMail 1.5.2 on FreeBSD X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <20020725183735.GA57189@sunbay.com> Date: Thu, 25 Jul 2002 14:52:48 -0400 (EDT) From: John Baldwin To: Ruslan Ermilov Subject: Re: Update for 4.6.1 issues Cc: qa@FreeBSD.ORG, re@FreeBSD.ORG, "Brian J. Thanks tons for the confirm. In every case 4.5 worked fine on the CD Drive, but 4.6 died. I didn't get any config specifics because we were mostly trying to determine if it was a media problem or not. However, most customers said it was an "older" drive and one user said it was a Mistsumi 8x CDRom. Right after the release of 4.6, while teaching the FBSD sysadmin classes, I think I ran into this same problem, but from a different angle. I had the class upgrade to 4.6 via CVSup and after re-compiling the kernel the CDrom drive was no longer mountable. Since I was in class, I had no time to research the problem and we just used an older kernel to finish the class. So, all the CDroms in the rented class were the same and the all died at 4.6, but worked with 4.5 so this may be the same problem. But, I don't know. -Chris To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-qa" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-qa Thu Jul 25 13:27:51 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 11C3437B405 for ; Thu, 25 Jul 2002 13:27:50 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail.speakeasy.net (mail12.speakeasy.net [216.254.0.212]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 978E643E3B for ; Thu, 25 Jul 2002 13:27:48 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jhb@FreeBSD.org) Received: (qmail 1074 invoked from network); 25 Jul 2002 20:27:47 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO server.baldwin.cx) ([216.27.160.63]) (envelope-sender ) by mail12.speakeasy.net (qmail-ldap-1.03) with DES-CBC3-SHA encrypted SMTP for ; 25 Jul 2002 20:27:47 -0000 Received: from laptop.baldwin.cx (gw1.twc.weather.com [216.133.140.1]) by server.baldwin.cx (8.12.5/8.12.5) with ESMTP id g6PKRkuR040320; Thu, 25 Jul 2002 16:27:46 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from jhb@FreeBSD.org) Message-ID: X-Mailer: XFMail 1.5.2 on FreeBSD X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <20020725190637.GA62517@sunbay.com> Date: Thu, 25 Jul 2002 16:27:56 -0400 (EDT) From: John Baldwin To: Ruslan Ermilov Subject: Re: Update for 4.6.1 issues Cc: "Bruce A.
