I've heard that NetBSD boots SMP fine on these buggers, so that's yet another codebase to compare our code against to see what differences there are. :( At the moment I don't have a lot of cycles to spend on this but I do want to get back to it, most likely after New Years. -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve!" - http://www.FreeBSD.org/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-smp" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-smp Thu Dec 19 1:18: 8 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-smp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9E63837B401 for ; Thu, 19 Dec 2002 01:18:07 -0800 (PST) Received: from ns.klondike.ru (ns.klondike.ru [195.170.237.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4186343EB2 for ; Thu, 19 Dec 2002 01:18:05 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from odenisov@klondike.ru) Received: from ns.klondike.ru (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by ns.klondike.ru (8.12.5/8.12.6) with ESMTP id gBJ9NaYp052626 for ; Thu, 19 Dec 2002 12:23:36 +0300 (MSK) (envelope-from odenisov@klondike.ru) Received: (from root@localhost) by ns.klondike.ru (8.12.5/8.12.3/Submit) id gBJ9NUpC052625 for smp@FreeBSD.ORG.KAV; Thu, 19 Dec 2002 12:23:30 +0300 (MSK) Received: from klondike.ru (denisov [195.170.237.21]) by ns.klondike.ru (8.12.5/8.12.6) with ESMTP id gBJ9NQYp052610 for ; Thu, 19 Dec 2002 12:23:30 +0300 (MSK) (envelope-from odenisov@klondike.ru) Message-ID: <3E018F4B.DDB4C675@klondike.ru> Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 12:20:11 +0300 From: "Oleg S. Wondering of any links or basic info on things unique to SMP. This is the first FreeBSD machine I have configured for SMP. In particular I would like to read about SMP kernel options. At http://people.freebsd.org/~fsmp/SMP/getstarted.html there are mentions to some options which no longer seem to work. If I remember correct the options not recognized where: # The number of busses, defaults to 4: options NBUS=4 # The number of IO APICs on the motherboard, defaults to 1. options NAPIC=1 # The total number of INTs provided by the motherboard, defaults to 24: options NINTR=24 Looking at the archives, I found that others have had the same problem with those options, but didn't see any replies in the thread. The kernel detecs the correct values at boot time. All you need to enable SMP are: options SMP # Symmetric MultiProcessor Kernel options APIC_IO # Symmetric (APIC) I/O The 4.* smp manpage is pretty much useless, but the one in 5.0 does mention these options. -- Dan Nelson dnelson@allantgroup.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-smp" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-smp Sat Dec 21 13:20:27 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-smp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6195537B401 for ; Sat, 21 Dec 2002 13:20:26 -0800 (PST) Received: from mail1.acecape.com (mail1.acecape.com [66.114.74.12]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BF56843ED8 for ; Sat, 21 Dec 2002 13:20:25 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from lists@natserv.com) Received: from p65-147.acedsl.com (p65-147.acedsl.com [66.114.65.147]) by mail1.acecape.com (8.12.2/8.12.2) with ESMTP id gBLLKDBU016566; Sat, 21 Dec 2002 16:20:13 -0500 Date: Sat, 21 Dec 2002 16:26:52 -0500 (EST) From: Francisco Reyes X-X-Sender: fran@zoraida.natserv.net To: Dan Nelson Cc: FreeBSD SMP Subject: Re: Looking for FreeBSD basic SMP info In-Reply-To: <20021221000422.GC7113@dan.emsphone.com> Message-ID: <20021221162421.C17250-100000@zoraida.natserv.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-smp@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Fri, 20 Dec 2002, Dan Nelson wrote: > > At http://people.freebsd.org/~fsmp/SMP/getstarted.html there are mentions ...... > Those are all obsolete now. Yep.. I did notice the 4 manpage has close to nothing. Is there any other SMP specific info in terms of kernel settings or programs?
