First of all if I shift my video board (ELSA Gloria Synergy) into another different 32 bit PCI slot when FreeBSD kernel starts there is no more output on the console like if the system continue to send the output somewhere else, so it works only if I put my video board into PCI slot 4 (nbumbering PCI slot from bottom to top). Second when I Try to configure XFree86 machine freezes with 2 bip sounds of the XP1000 speaker. As Well FreeBSD shows me a generic VGA interface (dmesg | grep vga) but this might be normal. Anyone has some hints how I Can make this ELSA syngergy interface to work with X11 ? otherwise how can I enable video board to work on different PCI slot? I also have a accelgraphic card I Could try out, but it won't fit in slot PCI 4 because of IDE and SCSI connectors, it can fit only in the first bottom pci slot from which I have no output after FreeBSD kernel starting. thanks a lot Rick From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Apr 7 07:00:42 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6957F37B401 for ; Mon, 7 Apr 2003 07:00:40 -0700 (PDT) Received: from postino.fi.infn.it (postino.fi.infn.it [192.84.145.9]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6644843F75 for ; Mon, 7 Apr 2003 07:00:37 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it) Received: from dijkstra.fi.infn.it (dijkstra.fi.infn.it [192.84.145.13]) by postino.fi.infn.it (8.12.9/8.12.6) with ESMTP id h37E0Y4k032366 for ; Mon, 7 Apr 2003 16:00:35 +0200 (CEST) Received: by dijkstra.fi.infn.it (Postfix, from userid 1000) id E1CF836D81; Mon, 7 Apr 2003 16:00:33 +0200 (CEST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dijkstra.fi.infn.it (Postfix) with ESMTP id A74C630C01 for ; Mon, 7 Apr 2003 16:00:33 +0200 (CEST) Date: Mon, 7 Apr 2003 16:00:33 +0200 (CEST) From: Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it X-X-Sender: fddi@dijkstra.fi.infn.it To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII X-RAVMilter-Version: 8.4.1(snapshot 20020920) (postino.fi.infn.it) X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=IN_REP_TO,NO_REAL_NAME,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT,SPAM_PHRASE_01_02, TO_BE_REMOVED_REPLY,USER_AGENT_PINE version=2.43 Subject: Re: XP1000 and ELSA Gloria Synergy problem. It run perfectly under FreeBSD 4.7 but unfortunately the kernel was not stable with having probably problems in memory so that I tried the 5.0. This signifficantly runs more stalbe as long one does not use ipfw command. "ipfw show" sometimes panics the kernel and on the reboot, as well as by any other reboot, the srm console gets into an desolate condition. Using "halt" works fine as expected. I am quite new to all of this stuff, so if you need more detailed information, please ask me what to check for. with best regards Jens On Mon, 7 Apr 2003, Wilko Bulte wrote: > On Mon, Apr 07, 2003 at 03:59:17AM +0200, j.roeder@tu-bs.de wrote: > > It would be interesting to know what SRM version you running. On my Tsunami-chipset based box (a DS10) I never got the floppy to work correctly with FreeBSD. Not a hardware problem, something in FreeBSD. Using "halt" works fine as expected. I am currently running a tight loop doing 'ipfw show' all the time on my DS10. I need to get my AS500 up to 5.0 before I can try to reproduce you problem there. That'll take considerable time, I have to install 4.8R first. I haven't had problems with floppy drive and my PC164, although it admittedly is not quite the same as PC164LX. On a some what related note, I wasn't able to boot 5.0 kern.flp on a AS200 though, it just stops while loading the kernel and gives an error message. If someone's interested, I can give more detailed info, but I'll probably just find a SCSI CD-ROM somewhere and use that to get the installation going again. When previously installing 5.0 from a CD to a different hard drive on that very same box the installer would just hang during package extraction, but I managed to overcome that by installing only the very minimum set of stuff which it was able to finish before the hang happened. After that the box worked fine, except if I tried to use the built-in ethernet adapter for anything more intensive than ping the box would hang again. An Intel 10/100 card worked just fine and I was able to make buildworld etc. It seems mysterious things sometimes happen with older hardware, -jake -- Jarkko Santala http://www.iki.fi/~jake/ System Administrator 2001:670:83:f08::/64 From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 8 13:49:54 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7435237B401 for ; Tue, 8 Apr 2003 13:49:54 -0700 (PDT) Received: from postino.fi.infn.it (postino.fi.infn.it [192.84.145.9]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0EFE143F85 for ; Tue, 8 Apr 2003 13:49:53 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it) Received: from dijkstra.fi.infn.it (dijkstra.fi.infn.it [192.84.145.13]) by postino.fi.infn.it (8.12.9/8.12.6) with ESMTP id h38Kno4k076128 for ; Tue, 8 Apr 2003 22:49:51 +0200 (CEST) Received: by dijkstra.fi.infn.it (Postfix, from userid 1000) id BAAE036D81; Tue, 8 Apr 2003 22:49:49 +0200 (CEST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dijkstra.fi.infn.it (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6D54F30C01 for ; Tue, 8 Apr 2003 22:49:49 +0200 (CEST) Date: Tue, 8 Apr 2003 22:49:48 +0200 (CEST) From: Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it X-X-Sender: fddi@dijkstra.fi.infn.it To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: <20030408180935.GB9968@freebie.xs4all.nl> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII X-RAVMilter-Version: 8.4.1(snapshot 20020920) (postino.fi.infn.it) X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-0.1 required=5.0 tests=IN_REP_TO,NO_REAL_NAME,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT,SPAM_PHRASE_00_01, USER_AGENT_PINE version=2.43 Subject: Re: problems with fdc0 device X-BeenThere: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Alpha List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 08 Apr 2003 20:49:54 -0000 floppy works fine on my Miata MX5 on FreeBSD-4.7 but Miata is totaly another thing... or the floppy controller is the same kind of chipset based? thanks Rick On Tue, 8 Apr 2003, Wilko Bulte wrote: > On Tue, Apr 08, 2003 at 05:31:21PM +0200, Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it wrote: > > > > Hello, > > XP1000G, FreeBSD-5.0 here. > > I am not able to mount the floppy. > > in the kernel > > > > device fdc > > device atapifd # ATAPI floppy drives > > Alphas don't use ATAPI floppys so you can remove that one. > > > fdc0: at port > > 0x3f7,0x3f0-0x3f5 irq 6 drq 2 on isa0 > > fdc0: interrupting at ISA irq 6 > > > > but I Cannot find any devices named /dev/fd0 > > > > I don't know what to do else I Read all the FAQ I Could find and all the > > google references I could find without succes. > > > > I need fd0 to work, I use it to sign certificates and to > > bring certificates from the CA machine to my computer to send them to > > users. > > On my Tsunami-chipset based box (a DS10) I never got the floppy to work > correctly with FreeBSD. This time I was using a generic kernel 5.0 with kldload-ed ipfw, but same problem before was on a self-compiled, why I changed back to the generic. Meanwhile I have compiled a kernel with suffiencet debug mode with the hope to offer proper error messages. > > > well as by any other reboot, the srm console gets into an desolate > > condition. I think the "unalighed access error" when listing the firewall rules showed only up in the 5.0 version. I will probably downgrade to 4.7 or 4.8 (what is better to use?) again and recompile with ipfw2 then, and let you know then. Before I will try to produce proper errror messages with the debug kernel of 5.0. Maybe you can try out the SRM console problem without upgrading to 5.0 as I remember I first noticed it, when I booted from floppy or CD and called the machine to abort. I thought first of the errors reason to be my fault because of the abortion. Again 4.7 did not have that problem. thanks again and with best regards from Germany JR ---------------------------------------------------------------------------= -- Physikalische und Theoretische Chemie der TU-Braunschweig Jens R=F6der, Hans-Sommer Str.10, 38106 Braunschweig ---------------------------------------------------------------------------= -- From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 9 02:20:46 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8492037B401 for ; Wed, 9 Apr 2003 02:20:46 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mta02.mail.mel.aone.net.au (mta02.mail.au.uu.net [203.2.192.82]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3DD8F43F93 for ; Wed, 9 Apr 2003 02:20:45 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from rbyrnes@ozemail.com.au) Received: from pootah.ozemail.com.au ([63.12.2.75]) by mta02.mail.mel.aone.net.au with ESMTP <20030409092043.LOYN11035.mta02.mail.mel.aone.net.au@pootah.ozemail.com.au>; Wed, 9 Apr 2003 19:20:43 +1000 Message-Id: <5.2.0.9.2.20030409191739.0269bec0@127.0.0.1> X-Sender: rbyrnes@pop.ozemail.com.au@127.0.0.1 (Unverified) X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 5.2.0.9 Date: Wed, 09 Apr 2003 19:17:58 +1000 To: Jameel Akari From: Rob B In-Reply-To: References: <20030408180935.GB9968@freebie.xs4all.nl> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed cc: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Subject: Re: problems with fdc0 device X-BeenThere: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Alpha List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 09 Apr 2003 09:20:46 -0000 At 04:27 AM 9/04/03, Jameel Akari sent this up the stick: >On Tue, 8 Apr 2003, Wilko Bulte wrote: > > > On Tue, Apr 08, 2003 at 05:31:21PM +0200, Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it > wrote: > > > > > > Hello, > > > XP1000G, FreeBSD-5.0 here. > > > > > fdc0: at port > > > 0x3f7,0x3f0-0x3f5 irq 6 drq 2 on isa0 > > > fdc0: interrupting at ISA irq 6 > >Hmm.. maybe I'm thinking about some other free OS, or a different version, >but wasn't ISA DMA broken on some Alphas? I tried to replace the original (2 MByte) TGA card with two different VGA cards (Matrox Mystique and SPEA V7 Mirage (S3 Trio 64 based)). Regardless of the card or the PCI-slot - AlphaBIOS boots the VGA card; SRM and FreeBSD console work fine - xf86cfg will identify the card correctly, then 'boot' the card (e. g. I see the VGA BIOS screen of the card again), then fall back to SRM and then reboot the system back to the login screen - a XF86Config created with xf86config will freeze the machine with a black screen (no answers to ping from another box) - what really puzzles me, is that there is _no_ log about this. The TGA card does run fine but of course in 8-bit mode only... Any ideas on this? I've been trying to get this working for the last two days with no result. Thanks a lot, best regads, Moritz. I hoped for a stable hardware of a real unix box as all depend on that gateway. Of course it can host a few users later when I get it stable with FreeBSD. Are there one or two commands just to do, to give you a propper error message? (By the way it is an generic kernel in this case). Again, when you use "ipfw show" on 5.0 on alpha, you get messages like this: ptchgate# ipfw show 00100 94 10410 allow ip from any to any via lo0 00200 0 0 deny ip from any to 127.0.0.0/8 pid 585 (ipfw): unaligned access: va=3D0x1200a80b4 pc=3D0x120001780 ra=3D0x120001764 op=3Dldq pid 585 (ipfw): unaligned access: va=3D0x1200a80bc pc=3D0x120001784 ra=3D0x120001764 op=3Dldq 00300 0 0 deny ip from 127.0.0.0/8 to any 65000 921 89561 allow ip from any to any 65535 0 0 deny ip from any to any It gets more likely to crash, when my set of rules are specified and list the rule then. I tried this already --- turning off softupdates improves the situation somewhat: the log-file gets created but with no content :-( > Another thing you might do is comment out most of the modules in your > config file and see if that helps. My module-section is pretty empty already: Section "Module" # This loads the miscellaneous extensions module, and disables # initialisation of the XFree86-DGA extension within that module. Reboot is now way faster --- it takes something like ten seconds to fall back to SRM and reboot. Was much longer before ;-) Anybody having problems with a Millenium II? I might try to get my hands on one if that's fastest way... Thanks for your help, Moritz. At this point I have two serious problems: a) Out of swap space: when I run portupgrade -a this message appears: "swap_pager: out of swap space swap_pager_getswapspace: failed". I assigned 128 MB of swap. b) Port of Bind 9. I can´´t generate rndc.key. This message appears: "rndc-confgen: generate key: out of entropy". I have setup bind 9 in chroot environment (creating random, null and zero devices). How can´´t solve this ??? Thank you very much for your help. ___________________________________________________ Yahoo! In order to force 100BaseTX full-duplex, you'll also have to force the other end. If you don't, what you'll get is very bad performance and dropped packets. I've had to force dc0 on this box (PC164, EN500 NIC) to 100BaseTX full-duplex, it wouldn't auto-negotiate no matter what. -jake -- Jarkko Santala http://www.iki.fi/~jake/ System Administrator 2001:670:83:f08::/64 From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 11 02:34:30 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4E78F37B401 for ; Fri, 11 Apr 2003 02:34:30 -0700 (PDT) Received: from postino.fi.infn.it (postino.fi.infn.it [192.84.145.9]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 20FD743FA3 for ; Fri, 11 Apr 2003 02:34:29 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it) Received: from dijkstra.fi.infn.it (dijkstra.fi.infn.it [192.84.145.13]) by postino.fi.infn.it (8.12.9/8.12.6) with ESMTP id h3B9YP4k055369; Fri, 11 Apr 2003 11:34:25 +0200 (CEST) Received: by dijkstra.fi.infn.it (Postfix, from userid 1000) id A7F5F36D81; Fri, 11 Apr 2003 11:34:24 +0200 (CEST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dijkstra.fi.infn.it (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7926130C01; Fri, 11 Apr 2003 11:34:24 +0200 (CEST) Date: Fri, 11 Apr 2003 11:34:24 +0200 (CEST) From: Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it X-X-Sender: fddi@dijkstra.fi.infn.it To: Andrew Gallatin In-Reply-To: <16021.37713.358055.147858@grasshopper.cs.duke.edu> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII X-RAVMilter-Version: 8.4.1(snapshot 20020920) (postino.fi.infn.it) X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.2 required=5.0 tests=IN_REP_TO,NO_REAL_NAME,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT,SPAM_PHRASE_03_05, USER_AGENT_PINE version=2.43 cc: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Subject: Re: dc0 not working on XP1000 X-BeenThere: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Alpha List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 11 Apr 2003 09:34:30 -0000 setting ewa0_mode to "auto" solves the problem. thank you very much Rick On Thu, 10 Apr 2003, Andrew Gallatin wrote: > > Riccardo.Veraldi@fi.infn.it writes: > > > > ewa0_mode Twisted-Pair > > > > there si no variable related to mediaopt for ewa0. > > > Yes there is: ewa0_mode. > > Type 'set ewa0_mode ' > > And it should give you a list of choice. Either the one prepackaged or recompiling from ports it does not work. The behaviour is XFree86 keeping 100% CPU and nothing happens, nothing written in the log files. I fiexed the problem installing XFree86-4.2.0 but I had to borrow it from FreeBSD-4.7-RELEASE becuse there is no XFree86-4.2.0 on FreeBSD-4.8-RELEASE, either I found no way to compile XFree86-4.2.0 from ports since XFree86-4.3.0 is shipped in ports for FreeBSD-4.8-RELEASE. This is just my experience. Anyone running XFree86 on XP1000 could confirm it?? As well XFree86-4.3.0 does not work on my XP1000 trying with FreeBSD-5.0-RELEASE so it looks like a XFree86 issue an not a RELEASE related issue. thanks very much Rick From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 11 05:52:51 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E6F9237B407 for ; Fri, 11 Apr 2003 05:52:51 -0700 (PDT) Received: from duke.cs.duke.edu (duke.cs.duke.edu [152.3.140.1]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2305743F85 for ; Fri, 11 Apr 2003 05:52:51 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gallatin@cs.duke.edu) Received: from grasshopper.cs.duke.edu (grasshopper.cs.duke.edu [152.3.145.30]) by duke.cs.duke.edu (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h3BCqoMS007238 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA bits=168 verify=NO); Fri, 11 Apr 2003 08:52:50 -0400 (EDT) Received: (from gallatin@localhost) by grasshopper.cs.duke.edu (8.11.6/8.9.1) id h3BCqj447958; Fri, 11 Apr 2003 08:52:45 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from gallatin@cs.duke.edu) From: Andrew Gallatin MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-ID: <16022.47773.447010.24683@grasshopper.cs.duke.edu> Date: Fri, 11 Apr 2003 08:52:45 -0400 (EDT) To: "=?iso-8859-1?q?Carlos=20L.M.?=" In-Reply-To: <20030410222932.67793.qmail@web12804.mail.yahoo.com> References: <20030410222932.67793.qmail@web12804.mail.yahoo.com> X-Mailer: VM 6.75 under 21.1 (patch 12) "Channel Islands" XEmacs Lucid cc: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Various problems with FreeBSD 4.8-RLEASE X-BeenThere: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Alpha List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 11 Apr 2003 12:52:52 -0000 Neither of these questions are alpha specific. Does anyone know of changes related to the isp driver between 4.6.2-RELEASE and 4.7-RELEASE that may have caused this problem?
