You could also try http://www.cosmo-project.de/~bernd/lm-alpha.diff. Thereticaly it should add large mem support for KN300 systems, but it is not tested beyound compiling yet. You need hardware with busdma ported drivers to use this patch on a large mem system. -- B.Walter BWCT http://www.bwct.de ticso@bwct.de info@bwct.de From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jun 30 05:32:08 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0CF4837B401; Mon, 30 Jun 2003 05:32:08 -0700 (PDT) Received: from agnostix.bangor.ac.uk (agnostix.bangor.ac.uk [147.143.2.39]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ADD7243F75; Mon, 30 Jun 2003 05:32:06 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from mas039@bangor.ac.uk) Received: from math2.bangor.ac.uk (math2 [147.143.10.13]) by agnostix.bangor.ac.uk (8.12.9/8.12.9) with SMTP id h5UCVvm2006971; Mon, 30 Jun 2003 13:31:58 +0100 (BST) Received: by math2.bangor.ac.uk (5.65v4.0/1.1.19.2/31Jul98-1035AM) id AA02329; Mon, 30 Jun 2003 13:31:57 +0100 From: "G.W.Roberts" Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Date: Mon, 30 Jun 2003 13:31:57 +0100 (BST) To: freebsd-questions@freebsd.org, freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailer: VM 6.43 under 20.4 "Emerald" XEmacs Lucid Message-Id: <16128.11465.596166.989543@math2.bangor.ac.uk> X-MailScanner-Information: Please contact the ISP for more information X-MailScanner: Found to be clean X-MailScanner-SpamCheck: nid sbam/not spam (goddefadwy/whitelisted), SpamAssassin (sgor/score=-18.1, yn ofynnol/required 4.5, BAYES_01, SIGNATURE_LONG_SPARSE, USER_AGENT_VM) Subject: 4.8-RELEASE-alpha-disc1.iso X-BeenThere: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Alpha List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 30 Jun 2003 12:32:08 -0000 Should 4.8-RELEASE-alpha-disc1.iso exist in /pub/FreeBSD/releases/alpha/ISO-IMAGES/4.8 ? Probably, but you can use 4.8-RELEASE-alpha-miniinst.iso instead of it: the mini-iso is a sub set of disc1, missing such things as the XFree86 packages. Once you've got your machine booted into FreeBSD you can install the ports tree and cvsup(1) and grab the rest of what you want that way instead. Hmmm.. the disk1 iso appears to be missing =66rom the ISO-IMAGES/5.1 directory for everything but the i386 arch. I know little about alpha. I tried to install 5.1R to alpha box. I successfully booted to the sysinstall. However in the bsdlabel, I can not find any disk in it. When I check the boot message, I found my scsi disk is regonized as /dev/da0. In the alt-F2 debug screen, the bsdlabel said found a disk /dev/da0. The scsi disk is empty and it is low formatted :) What is the problem?? I google, someone said that zero the first sector will solve the problem. However I have no OS in the machine now. Maybe I need download the disc-2.... Thank you for your help.
