I'm planning on using the Adaptec 2400A ATA RAID cards, which are full-length PCI cards and using at least four IDE disks per system in addition to a CD-ROM drive and one or two other PCI cards. I don't need ultra-high density as much as I need a roomy case that can accomodate the internal drives and full-length PCI card. Decent air movement is a plus with that many drives crammed inside. It's very hard to find cases that accept the 11 inch long adaptec 2400A, even if you unscrew the handle. Getting a deep case of 25 or 26 inches long and/or 2U or 3U is no assurance that the PCI slot space is 11 inches. And if you ask the rackmount sales person, they usually don't know, and they've got to measure, and then there's room for error and interpretation. So, it's a bitch of a card to provision cases for. The Promise SX4000 looks to be equal or better and cheaper, but also shorter, but not supported under freebsd, yet. Big part of the reason I was asking -- those cards are unusually large and a lot of "beige box" rackmount cases I've seen have weird orientations that leave little room for even a tiny fxp NIC, let alone a honkin' card like the 2400A. Another list member emailed me that he's actually built systems with these cards, so I'd call that a pretty safe bet, although I'd order one before I ordered 5, just to be sure.. I'm having trouble configuring the NIC so that FBSD can use it. It seems to be an IRQ conflict from what I can see. If I set it to "Plug and Play" via the Intel SoftSet program, the NIC reports no IRQ and ff:ff:ff:ff as it's MAC address. If I set it to IRQ 10, I don't see any conflicts but I can't seem to hit anything (network wise) beyond the card interface. It may be worth noting also that set to IRQ 10, the SoftSet test program fails on internal loop (I think). If I set it to Plug and Play, or IRQ 5 (the IRQ of COM2), the SoftSet tests all pass. Is there a way I can disable COM2 in FBSD? I'd try to do it in the BIOS but it a Compaq and I can't find the BIOS config utility for this particular system. Anyone have any experience or other ideas on how to get this ISA NIC working? Much thanks! Mark __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! The driver has the code to send the PnP wakeup sequence but its currently disabled. Use a fixed config with non-confliting resources. Your kernel config should be just: device ex You'll also want to set the port with the DOS config utility. While the driver displays media status and supported media I haven't yet figured out how to select the media. -- | Matthew N. I've found that when I disable Xvideo, the SiS6326 "seems to be" stable, I havn't had time to let it run for more than 6 hours though, so it might not be it. The Radeon drivers don't allow Xvideo to be disabled, so I can't say if it's Xv causing this or not. The crashes seem less frequent with the Radeon than with the SiS with Xv enabled though, so I don't think it's the Radeon which is guilty, probably Xv. I've used the patch to merge the DRM from -current into my 4.8-STABLE system.
