I don't think there was an announcement to hubs@ about it. I also don't think that reading emails and manually kicking off the mirror script is a very efficient way to run a mirror site. Can't you just mirror via cron, maybe with a little sanity checking on your mirror configuration? Announcements do not go to hubs@ everytime something is placed on the FTP site, they are only sent to hubs@ during major releases so that we may coordinate and make sure the bits get to all of the right places in time. - Murray To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hubs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hubs Tue Mar 25 5:14:23 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 72D0E37B401; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 05:14:20 -0800 (PST) Received: from luna.rtfmconsult.com (luna.rtfmconsult.com [202.83.72.190]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A4A4943F85; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 05:14:19 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from jason@rtfmconsult.com) Received: by luna.rtfmconsult.com (Postfix, from userid 42) id 24D8E48E6F; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 23:14:18 +1000 (EST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by luna.rtfmconsult.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1B9F552D92; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 23:14:18 +1000 (EST) Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2003 23:14:17 +1000 (EST) From: jason andrade To: Murray Stokely Cc: Kris Kennaway , "" Subject: Re: 4.8 i386 packages uploaded In-Reply-To: <20030325014010.C208@freebsdmall.com> Message-ID: References: <20030325060738.GA3313@rot13.obsecurity.org> <20030325014010.C208@freebsdmall.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-31.9 required=5.0 tests=EMAIL_ATTRIBUTION,IN_REP_TO,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT,REFERENCES, REPLY_WITH_QUOTES,USER_AGENT_PINE autolearn=ham version=2.50 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.50 (1.173-2003-02-20-exp) Sender: owner-freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Tue, 25 Mar 2003, Murray Stokely wrote: > I don't think there was an announcement to hubs@ about it. Can't you just > mirror via cron, maybe with a little sanity checking on your mirror > configuration? we try and automate parts of the mirroring but prefer to do the syncing of new releases in most cases manually for a couple of reasons (perhaps some now historical) o we can't keep an exact duplicate of what is on ftp-master at all times, e.g for disk space reasons. o we have had issues in the past with updates taking so long in some cases that they rolled into each other. o a large chunk of the freebsd site doesn't seem to change anyway and i guess we could just exclude it from an automatic mirror process but it has been easier to simply manually sync up new stuff via scripts. > Announcements do not go to hubs@ everytime something is placed on the > FTP site, they are only sent to hubs@ during major releases so that we > may coordinate and make sure the bits get to all of the right places > in time. that's fair enough - i guess i was hoping there would be a mail when "significant" things were going to be coming out, e.g the 4.8-R package tree notice that came out. for some of us the addition of another 5-10G might mean 2-4 days of syncing as well as a large chunk of disk disappearing in one hit. i consider the release trees/isos and RC trees/isos significant. probably much less so for generic updates to distfiles or a new package build. i'll try and check the web pages more frequently and see if i can tune our scripts a bit more towards automating this part of the updates cycle. regards, -jason To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hubs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hubs Tue Mar 25 11:50:55 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E168637B401 for ; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 11:50:52 -0800 (PST) Received: from b.smtp-out.sonic.net (b.smtp-out.sonic.net [208.201.224.39]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 6C81D43F85 for ; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 11:50:52 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from milo@cyberlifelabs.com) Received: (qmail 12710 invoked from network); 25 Mar 2003 19:50:51 -0000 Received: from prop.sonic.net (208.201.224.193) by b.smtp-out.sonic.net with SMTP; 25 Mar 2003 19:50:51 -0000 Received: from cyberlifelabs.com (adsl-64-142-14-252.sonic.net [64.142.14.252]) by prop.sonic.net (8.11.6/8.8.5) with ESMTP id h2PJopI06526 for ; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 11:50:51 -0800 X-envelope-info: Message-ID: <3E80B31B.9060702@cyberlifelabs.com> Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2003 11:50:51 -0800 From: Milo Hyson User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20030317 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: hubs@freebsd.org Subject: 4.8-RC????? Please change base and prefix according to your needs. Peter or John: is there any chance to have the collection files for the cvsupd on ftp-master available, most preferred via the "self-supfile" mechanism? There was already some brief discussion about that on this list, but I guess the best that came out, was that there are some collection-files around, hand crafted by mirror maintainers or copied from ftp-master, but not updated. I would be glad to offer the ftp-master collection on our mirror. If you run FreeBSD/i386 alas, you won't be able to use more than 4GB. The FreeBSD/PAE architecture branch (if finished) will allow this through windowing of the address space, but there is lots of controversy about the benefits. Check out freebsd-arch@ archives. I am also very happy with native ftpd of 4.7(lukemftpd not tried). It can process over 1000 connections if you tuned socket parameters(such as mbuf clusters) properly. proftpd cannot handle such situation. One bad point of native ftpd is simplicity.(also good point of ftpd) It cannot limit total users or total bandwidth. It can allow unlimited connections (that's too bad if too many requests come in) so I gave up running standalone mode and use inetd to limit total connection and per-ip connection. a little bit overhead, but reasonable. And it doesn't support wu-ftpd style xferlog(8) format. You need to convert ftpd's /var/log/ftpd log properly if you wish log analyzing. I think thttpd-style ftpd(single process, use kqueue() model, mmap() caching or utilizing sendfile() ) will be perfect solution for high load. But I cannot find such ftpd yet... I have the following entry in /etc/inetd.conf: ftp stream tcp nowait/800/1200/1 root /usr/libexec/ftpd ftpd -l -T 30 -t 15 -S > -- > Maxim Konovalov, maxim@macomnet.ru, maxim@FreeBSD.org > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-hubs" in the body of the message -- CHOI Junho KFUG FreeBSD Project Web Data Bank Key fingerprint = 1369 7374 A45F F41A F3C0 07E3 4A01 C020 E602 60F5 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hubs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hubs Wed Mar 26 23:26:50 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2724A37B404 for ; Wed, 26 Mar 2003 23:26:46 -0800 (PST) Received: from kazi.fit.vutbr.cz (kazi.fit.vutbr.cz [147.229.8.12]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E385C43FA3 for ; Wed, 26 Mar 2003 23:26:44 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from cejkar@fit.vutbr.cz) Received: from kazi.fit.vutbr.cz (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by kazi.fit.vutbr.cz (8.12.8/8.12.8) with ESMTP id h2R7QbFN010078 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA bits=168 verify=NO); Thu, 27 Mar 2003 08:26:39 +0100 (CET) Received: (from cejkar@localhost) by kazi.fit.vutbr.cz (8.12.8/8.12.5/Submit) id h2R7QYjF010060; Thu, 27 Mar 2003 08:26:34 +0100 (CET) X-Authentication-Warning: kazi.fit.vutbr.cz: cejkar set sender to cejkar@fit.vutbr.cz using -f Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2003 08:26:32 +0100 From: Cejka Rudolf To: Daniel Lang Cc: hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: which ftpd to use? I switched to it on ftp-master.cz.FreeBSD.org, but I did not search for heavy load reduction, but for the possibility to have access control list. However, in case of commiters/maintainers interest, I have updated port for latest tnftpd-2.0-beta3.tar.gz. -- Rudolf Cejka http://www.fit.vutbr.cz/~cejkar Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Information Technology Bozetechova 2, 612 66 Brno, Czech Republic To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hubs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Mar 27 05:17:06 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 89A2237B401 for ; Thu, 27 Mar 2003 05:17:06 -0800 (PST) Received: from castle.jp.FreeBSD.org (castle.jp.FreeBSD.org [210.226.20.15]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 74A0A43FB1 for ; Thu, 27 Mar 2003 05:17:05 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from matusita@jp.FreeBSD.org) Received: from localhost (localhost [::1])h2RDI6409763; Thu, 27 Mar 2003 22:18:06 +0900 (JST) (envelope-from matusita@jp.FreeBSD.org) In-Reply-To: <20030327072632.GA8846@fit.vutbr.cz> References: <20030326143611.GA20796@atrbg11.informatik.tu-muenchen.de> <20030326143611.GA20796@atrbg11.informatik.tu-muenchen.de> <20030327072632.GA8846@fit.vutbr.cz> X-User-Agent: Mew/1.94.2 XEmacs/21.5 (bamboo) X-FaceAnim: (-O_O-)(O_O- )(_O- )(O- )(- -)( -O)( -O_)( -O_O)(-O_O-) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Dispatcher: imput version 20000228(IM140) Lines: 11 From: Makoto Matsushita To: cejkar@fit.vutbr.cz Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2003 22:16:40 +0900 Message-Id: <20030327221640U.matusita@jp.FreeBSD.org> X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-9.9 required=5.0 tests=IN_REP_TO,REFERENCES autolearn=ham version=2.50 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.50 (1.173-2003-02-20-exp) cc: hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: which ftpd to use? Also response time to establish a connection did not degrade. Due to simplicity, uploads are now no longer possible, but I guess it's not so much of a problem.
