(there are 8 sales reps for now) Customer's head office (HO) requires each sales rep to connect to HO through a VPN. HO will only accept one VPN from any given IP address. Therefore each sales rep needs their own IP address (You can't put several behind a NAT (simple cable modem home router)). HO also requires each sales rep to be NATed/firewalled. I have a Netopia R910 router that can do this with 8 static public IP addresses - map them 1 to 1. The static IP addresses will cost over $450.00/month (TelCo) whereas I can get 8 dynamic addresses for $100/month (DHCP assigned) (Cable modem). So, I want to map the 8 private addresses to 8 public, dynamic addresses. A device like the R910 only has one external MAC address so it can only grab one dynamic address. I would like to build a basic FBSD box to do this. So I need a network card that has 4 to 8 MAC addresses so that it can grab 8 DHCP assigned addresses and then I want to map them to the 8 internal addresses. Any suggestions for appropriate cards? How about BSD configuration (I think I'll be able to figure this out but hints will still be appreciated)? A NIC with 8 MAC addresses available on one physical port would be great cause otherwise I'd have to take the multiple ports into a hub to connect to the cable modem (or DSL if we end up going that way). thank you, Shannon To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isp" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isp Wed Jan 15 10:28:32 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D851C37B401 for ; Wed, 15 Jan 2003 10:28:30 -0800 (PST) Received: from mail.westbend.net (ns1.westbend.net [216.47.253.3]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C6CB343F3F for ; Wed, 15 Jan 2003 10:28:29 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from hetzels@westbend.net) Received: from ADMIN00 (admin00.westbend.net [216.47.253.17]) by mail.westbend.net (8.12.6/8.12.6) with SMTP id h0FISHMW035431; Wed, 15 Jan 2003 12:28:18 -0600 (CST) (envelope-from hetzels@westbend.net) Message-ID: <01a801c2bcc3$93ac6a70$11fd2fd8@ADMIN00> From: "Scot Hetzel" To: "Forrest W. Anyone with experience know of > particular "gotchas"? Easy setup? Tricks? > > Please Cc: me as I'm not subscribed to -isp. > I hop I can help you with a minimal setup. I have used the same setup for three years without any stops (except power drops). 1. Use the latest port with TCP/IP support. Try to convince the mac users to use TCP/IP insted of DDP (apple talk layer 3). Faster and you can use LPD on the unix for printing. 2. If you have to use DDP you have to edit the usr/local/etc/rc.d/netatalk.sh case $1 in start) echo -n ' netatalk' #--- start apple talk routing RTMP and the protocol ZIP and NBP (eg. ~ routed) ${PREFIX}/libexec/atalkd #--- annonce the name Workstation and netatalk in zone training (eg NetBIOS name service) because it's a computer and it runs netatalk. ${PREFIX}/bin/nbprgstr -p 4 training:Workstation & ${PREFIX}/bin/nbprgstr -p 4 training:netatalk & #--- To support apple talk printers (eg lpd) ${PREFIX}/libexec/papd #--- File service both apple talk and TCP/IP. Supports 10 connections and has the name training. -s and -f are defaults. (eg NFS) ${PREFIX}/libexec/afpd -c 10 -n training -s ${PREFIX}/etc/AppleVolumes.system \ -f ${PREFIX}/etc/AppleVolumes.default ;; The user will se the file server in the chooser by selecting service file server and zone training. It will appear with the name training. 3. To make TCP/IP work you only need to have the line #--- File service both apple talk and TCP/IP. Supports 10 connections and have has the name training. -s and -f are defaults. (eg NFS) ${PREFIX}/libexec/afpd -c 10 -n training -s ${PREFIX}/etc/AppleVolumes.system \ -f ${PREFIX}/etc/AppleVolumes.default You can add a -D to disable DDP connections. To connect to the server you use the domain name. 4. Next step are the volumes or shared directories (eg NFS). In the file /usr/local/etc/AppleVolumes.default you will find a lot of parameters. I have only used one. #--- The ~ associates with users home directory. The codepage enables the use of more then the "*#%&" us ascii. In my case Swedish ~ codepage=maccode.iso8859-1 In the file /usr/local/etc/AppleVolumes.system you will find file extentions. Add your own of you need to. Last in the file I have added the shared volumes. #--- /u3 is the unix directory and Gemensam (Swedish for common) is the apple share volume name. I use the parameter casefold on this volume because it's shared with some windows users and windows can't differ between upper and lower case file names. /u3 Gemensam casefold=tolower codepage=maccode.iso8859-1 5. And as you wrote you need options NETATALK in the kernel. -- Regards /Anders Hagman Netplex AB To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isp" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isp Sat Jan 18 6:20:18 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B170037B401 for ; Sat, 18 Jan 2003 06:20:17 -0800 (PST) Received: from mx8.mail.ru (mx8.mail.ru [194.67.57.18]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0F4D943ED8 for ; Sat, 18 Jan 2003 06:20:16 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from ini@mail.ru) Received: from [212.248.7.16] (helo=ini) by mx8.mail.ru with smtp (Exim SMTP.8) id 18ZtQY-0008nv-00 for freebsd-isp@freebsd.org; Sat, 18 Jan 2003 16:54:28 +0300 From: ini To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Subject: Инвестиционный портал X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200 Reply-To: a@a.ru Date: Sat, 18 Jan 2003 16:54:19 +0300 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=Windows-1251 Message-Id: Sender: owner-freebsd-isp@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Здравствуйте!
