To do so I registered at Freenet6 for an account. The box has been set up according to the description but for some reason it doesn't work. I cannot seem to ping6 to www.kame.net or other IPv6 enabled sites. The outgoing requests are visible with 'tcpdump -i gif0' but no answers are coming back. My server is using a private space address 10.0.0.1 and is situated behind an ADSL NAT router (Alcatel speedtouch pro). According to the freenet description NAT should be working being the administrator of the NAT which is ofcourse the case. I've tried it without any special config on the NAT, I tried a TCP pinhole at port 3653, also defserver addr=10.0.0.1 but nothing helps. My rc.conf contains the line ipv6_enable="YES" Below the output of the TSPC tunnel setup program and the interface config afterwards. --- Start of configuration script. --- Script: freebsd44.sh Setting up interface gif0 Adding default route to 3ffe:0bc0:8000:0000:0000:0000:0000:1ae4 delete net default: not in table add net default: gateway 3ffe:0bc0:8000:0000:0000:0000:0000:1ae4 --- End of configuration script. --- tspc - Tunnel Server Protocol Client Loading configuration file Connecting to server Using [10.0.0.1] as source IPv4 address. This node employs routing tables based = on hardware addresses, in order to give the impression to upper layers = that all the network nodes are within one hop. This netgraph node = accepts all traffic to the wireless interface and encapsulates it using = a custom header. The encapsulated packet propagates towards its = destination according to the routing tables maintained at each = intermediate host, and when it reaches its final destination the = netgraph node deencapsulates it and sends it to the upper layers (upper = hook of ng_ether node). This scheme worked fine with FreeBSD 4.7. However, when I ported it to = 5.1 it was broken. I found out that the received encapsulated frames = were discarded, because their size were longer than accepted / expected = by the kernel (The if_ethersubr.c makes these checks in 5.1). The = message appearing was: wi0: discard oversize frame (len 1536 > max 1514) no matter if I reduced the interface MTU, this message persists. I would like to ask you how can I tell the upper layers (i.e. IP, = TCP/UDP) to leave more size in a packet, so that when my header is = added, the total length does not exceed MTU + ether_header_length? I only boot from Intel cards that support PXE. This greatly simplifies the administration of large numbers of diskless machines. It makes kernel changes trivial. If your going to go diskless you may as well go all the way for the base/root system and kernel. If you need RAID disks for data then you can throw some swap on them, but otherwise with memory cheap you can usually get away without swap. The problem with hardrives isn't cost. Its a source of failure and administrative overhead. Avoid them. If you can't, then use RAID for data and still PXE boot over the network. Upgrading kernel on each machine is a major drag if there are lots of machines. In general a solution that is not scalable is not a good one. -steve From owner-freebsd-net@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Nov 25 10:02:44 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-net@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 707D516A4CF for ; Tue, 25 Nov 2003 10:02:44 -0800 (PST) Received: from tenebras.com (laptop.tenebras.com [66.92.188.18]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 1096B43FDD for ; Tue, 25 Nov 2003 10:02:43 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from kudzu@tenebras.com) Received: (qmail 34018 invoked from network); 25 Nov 2003 18:02:42 -0000 Received: from sapphire.tenebras.com (HELO tenebras.com) (192.168.188.241) by laptop.tenebras.com with SMTP; 25 Nov 2003 18:02:42 -0000 Message-ID: <3FC3993F.1010109@tenebras.com> Date: Tue, 25 Nov 2003 10:02:39 -0800 From: Michael Sierchio User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i386; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 X-Accept-Language: en-us, zh-tw, zh-cn, fr, en, de-de MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Mailing List FreeBSD Network Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit cc: imp@freebsd.org Subject: problems experienced with wi driver ? Both client and AP are FreeBSD 4.9, using the same Netgear MA401 prism-based wireless card with the same firmware rev. The Base station is set to HostAP mode. The same client hardware, when booted in XP, associates without difficulty in either SHARED or OPEN authmode. Any comments? Suggestions on gathering more detail for diagnosis? Can you reproduce this? I'm configuring a box with six Ethernet interfaces. Two are on the motherboard and four are on two Dell/Intel dual NICs. The machine recognizes only five out of the six at boot time. There should be an fxp5 -- it's on the same card as the interface that becomes fxp4! -- but there isn't. I did a boot -v with the FreeBSD 4.9-RELEASE GENERIC kernel to expose the PnP information; it appears below. Can anyone tell me why fxp2 and fxp3 (which are together on one PCI card) are recognized, but fxp5 (which is on the same card as fxp4) doesn't show up at boot time or thereafter? --Brett Glass Nov 25 17:12:07 newbox /kernel: Copyright (c) 1992-2003 The FreeBSD Project.
