my mobo won't let me tell it to prefer the scsi to the ide, but i
want to prefer the scsi.  can i config that?

I can case the motherboard bios is flawed. You can try to setup the right
parameters for the ide drives. BUT disable the drive, as if it's not connected.

This should result in the bios to ignore the ide drives. And then resort to
scsi. Once kernel is running. It can figure out the ide drives on it's own.

We're talking to Seagate right now, to see if there is anything at the
firmware level that can get done, and am trying to provide them with as
much information as we can ... I enabled the AHD_REG_PRETTY_PRINT stuff
yesterday, and the output today is ... is there anything in this that I
can show/point out to them?  Something to indicate, or narrow down, where
the problem may lie?

I just replaced an Adaptec 19160 (which has been working fine for years in
this setup) with a 39160, and added a extra disk to the B channel on the
39160. The 39160 has the latest BIOS revision, 3.10.0, and is left at its
default settings.

I am using what looks like a decent, undamaged Ultra160-LVD/SE cable for the B
controller, ahc1, and I have never had any problems with the other cable on
the 19160. The 39160 has supposedly never been used. The motherboard is an
Asus CUBX.

What could be wrong? Could the 39160 or the B cable be faulty?

Any help appreciated.

I use a OpenBSD box with a 3ware card.
The FreeBSD driver has the possibility to rebuild a degraded array.
But the OpenBSd one's, wich is based on the FreeBSD one's, has not.
I ask the developer of the OpenBSD twe driver if he plans to add this=20
in a futur.
He answers me that maybe he will have a look inside the FreeBSD driver,=20=

but he would prefer to have better documentation from 3ware.

I was wondering if you have some documentation that it is related to=20
the 3ware card that help you  to build the FreeBSD driver  ? and if it=20=

is available ?

No such documentation exists, I'm afraid.

I used the Linux driver, along with some support from an engineer that=20=

was at 3ware at the time.

However, I'm a little perplexed when you say that the FreeBSD driver=20
can rebuild an array; it can't.
There's an interface for the 3ware management tool (3dm) which is=20
certainly capable of instigating
an array rebuild, but most rebuild operations are undertaken=20
transparently by the card.

You try to print out a diagnostic that says exactly what is going wrong,
but people ignore it anyway... <sigh>

Interrupts are not being routed correctly to the second funcion of
your SCSI controller.  The A channel works - this is exactly the same
INT line that your 19160 used.  The gods of interrupt routing may
be able to tell you why the code is not handling this properly, but
suffice to say, interrupts are not working!

I am not ignoring the message, I simply wasn't sure how to interpret it
properly :) This cable and controller somebody gave me could have been faulty
perhaps.  Thanks for confirming that they're apparently functioning fine.

That makes sense, as irq 4 is now also used for the B channel. I vainly tried
to disable COM1 in the BIOS but that didn't seem to help either. Nor did
disabling the sio device. So I'll send a message to -current now.

Sounds like Int routing got wrong results.
Check if disabling helps you:

I saw the same yesterday on an Asus T2P4 board and got the impression
about a BIOS bug, but since I installed using old source I did not
mention yet.
In my case the result was the same in that all routing resulted in
beeing IRQ4.
