There is 0 chance the vr(4) driver will work on sparc64, it uses vtophys() for DMA and it doesn't look like it's endian-clean either. By the way, the originator of this thread mailed me privately saying his card is actually a 3c905, so he should be able to use the xl(4) driver without problems. System is as empty as possible. The system goes immediately in an endless loop telling me, that sym0:9: No MSG OUT phase after selection with ATN. (noperiph:sym0:0:-1:-1): SCSI BUS reset detected. I tried to read and understand the code in the source but, I have to admit, the SCSI background is missing, so I'm not able to find a workaround here. How can I "boot -c" the system -- to speak in x86 terms -- to try it without sym0? Another question, related to the project I'm currently working on: Is FreeBSD/sparc64 ready now to be used as a production mailserver ? I have this spare machine and the hardware fits the problem pretty well but I really do not want to support sendmail&friends on solaris. OpenBSD has no SMP support (currently only one CPU installed 'cause debugging) and NetBSD made me a little sad the last weeks... Thanks in advance .//. Could you please mail me the exact problem, a dmesg from the system (evt before the problem appeared), and a pciconf -l Then if your problem is a timeout followed by a panic please try to disable DMA by setting hw.ata.ata_dma=0 in /boot/loader.conf... Yes, the problem looks like: ata2-master: timeout waiting for interrupt ata2-master: ATA identify failed But setting the above in /boot/loader.conf doesn't change anything I'm afraid. The netgraph modules aren't built by default on sparc64 because they haven't been tested very much (if at all). Build a new kernel with the netgraph stuff compiled in statically. I don't know which options you will need exactly, look in sys/conf/NOTES. After reinserting all the harddisks, everything worked as expected. Nice, *but* this system was able to access all the harddisks during the "we try NetBSD"- phase days ago and no one touched the hardware apart from replacing the NetBSD cdrom with the FreeBSD one. Ok, can someone enlighten me with the current status of the raid support in 5.0/sparc? I miss the vinum kernel module after cvsup and rebuild to the tag "dot". Is raidframe usable with the sparc64 port -- according to the project page troubles are expected with the new 5.0 SMP code. Thanks for any help, .//. Similarly for -STABLE, but that's a moot point because -STABLE doesn't break very often. For people who don't agree with this, there's always procmail; the reports aren't all that frequent that filtering is some sort of burden. I do, however, like the idea of consolidating them and providing more concise summaries. Instead of using MAKEDEV just mount a devfs on the target jail "filesystem". See devfs(5). PHK, I think you need to update the jail documentation to account for devfs...
