I suggest that FreeBSD.org have email addresses for each Unix command (e.g., ls@FreeBSD.org , ksh@FreeBSD.org , find@FreeBSD.org , vi@FreeBSD.org , emacs@FreeBSD.org , etc.) to which mail can be sent about any problems. Preferably a system can be set up to forward mail received here on to the person to whom to report problems with the code or documentation of the command (maybe use ls.cod@FreeBSD.org and ls.doc@FreeBSD.org for problems with the code or documentation respectively of the ls command), or the person responsible can look at the email received here. Right now, I found an error with the find command and with shell documentation, and I still don't know whom to contact. Your suggestion doesn't work here because this is a volunteer project and there is no guaranteed way to identify people interested in individual userland commands. However, if your suggested patch is clearly correct then I'm sure someone will pick it up and apply it. Some of the code you mention isn't even maintained by the FreeBSD Project. If you have a bug in emacs, you should send your submission to the FSF. - Murray From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Oct 13 11:01:51 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D21CC16A4C0 for ; Mon, 13 Oct 2003 11:01:51 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1FBD943FE1 for ; Mon, 13 Oct 2003 11:01:42 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h9DI1gFY044457 for ; Mon, 13 Oct 2003 11:01:42 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id h9DI1fEv044451 for freebsd-www@freebsd.org; Mon, 13 Oct 2003 11:01:41 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2003 11:01:41 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200310131801.h9DI1fEv044451@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-www@FreeBSD.org Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 13 Oct 2003 18:01:52 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems Serious problems S Submitted Tracker Resp. Here's what the _Chicago Manual of Style_ says about capitalizing quoted titles (headline style): 7.127 In regular title capitalization, also known as headline style, the first and last words and all nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and subordinating conjunctions (if, because, as, that, etc.) are capitalized. Articles (a, an, the), coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or for, nor), and prepositions, regardless of length, are lowercased unless they are the first or last word of the title or subtitle. The to in infinitives is also lowercased. Long titles of works published in earlier centuries may retain the original capitalization, except that any word in full capitals should carry only an initial capital. No word in a quoted title should ever be set in full capitals, regardless of how it appears on the title page of the book itself, unless it is an acronym, such as WAC, UNICEF, or FORTRAN. We should be using this universally, IMO. We would have different headlines than > the original article, which is not good. > Quote the Manual of Style articles to the article authors instead :-) my first opinion was to keep the headlines as they are in the original content, which is in most cases only a small difference. but after some more reflection on this topic i think we should not start making exceptions in style. we do have strict/well defined rules for how to have the content look and i think this should apply to _all_ the content we have, without exception. yes, the chicago style says we should keep it the way it is in the original document but i think that creates a style conflict on the press page. have a look at some of the older entries, there are some with capitals for all letters. For me it is a matter of consistency, for example we always have the .X in versions written in capitals, but some of the headlines have it written in small letters - i do not think this looks good. greets, josef -- www: http://www.daemon.li nic-hdl: JER1080312-NICAT BSD in AT: www.bsdcode.at "Make World - Not War!" Yes it is Linux, but there is a FreeBSD stable. Tent. Table. Whatever... The call is yours. ----- Forwarded message from Trevor Johnson ----- Date: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 03:37:33 -0400 (EDT) From: Trevor Johnson Subject: Southern California Linux Expo Last year, Eric Melville, Gordon Tetlow, Kris Kennaway and I I came to this conference. A space was provided for us, complete with tables, chairs, electricity, and a connection to the Internet. The FreeBSD Mall provided some CD-ROMs, DVDs, catalogs and stickers which we gave away. We brought some computers running FreeBSD. It was a good opportunity to hobnob with the Linux (and Open Darwin) folks and with each other. We got free admission to the exhibit area and had time to look at the other exhibitors. Well, there will be another SCALE this year, on November 22nd at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and we have been offered a space again. I'm hoping some other FreeBSD committers, or aficionados, would again like to populate our tables. If you need a place to stay while you're in the area, I probably have the use of the guest room in the very modest--okay, run-down--house where I'm staying now. If you're interested, please let me know (I have to tell the organizers beforehand the names of those who will be there). The exhibit floor will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you can't be there the whole time, that should be fine. If we had some CD-ROMs or other FreeBSD-related goodies to give away again, that would be great too. Last year, we gave away everything that Eric brought from the FreeBSD Mall (courtesy of Murray Stokely), except for some catalogs, as well as a few CD-Rs that we made on the spot. Another thing that would be nice to have would be a booth. Last year, I asked a FreeBSD-related company about borrowing its booth, but the arrangements fell through. Now I have a small truck, so I could pick one up in the Southern California area, if it isn't too big. The SCALE home page is at . If you think you might like to attend, it would help if you could give a brief description of anything you'd like to present, because I'm supposed to turn in an abstract of what we'll be doing. -- Trevor Johnson ----- End forwarded message ----- -- Edwin Groothuis | Personal website: http://www.mavetju.org edwin@mavetju.org | Weblog: http://www.mavetju.org/weblog/weblog.php From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 17 02:59:15 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7C7E416A4B3 for ; Fri, 17 Oct 2003 02:59:15 -0700 (PDT) Received: from arthur.nitro.dk (port324.ds1-khk.adsl.cybercity.dk [212.242.113.79]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B7E1143FCB for ; Fri, 17 Oct 2003 02:59:14 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from simon@arthur.nitro.dk) Received: by arthur.nitro.dk (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 943E610BFAA; Fri, 17 Oct 2003 11:59:13 +0200 (CEST) Date: Fri, 17 Oct 2003 11:59:13 +0200 From: "Simon L. I think the old covers are interesting in a historic perspective, so I think it would be nice to preserve the cover images somewhere, but I agree that they are not teribly usefull in their current location. In other words, I think the CDROM section should go, and then at some point perhaps someone can pull the images/descriptions out of CVS and make some kind of useful historic page. The Magazines section should just go away IMO. --=20 Simon L.
