The AHC_ALLOW_MEMIO enhances the I/O performance a lot compared with those SCSI drivers have no MEMIO option. I have tried Adaptec AIC7902 Ultra320 SCSI adapter (which has no MEMIO option), and the performance is really bad compared with Aic7892 MEMIO option. I doubt why there is no MEMIO option for other SCSI controllers? >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-advocacy@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Nov 7 15:49:41 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-advocacy@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D5CEE16A4CE; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 15:49:41 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B57E543D39; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 15:49:41 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from delphij@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (delphij@localhost [127.0.0.1]) iA7FnfGt041554; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 15:49:41 GMT (envelope-from delphij@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from delphij@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id iA7FnfFB041550; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 15:49:41 GMT (envelope-from delphij) Date: Sun, 7 Nov 2004 15:49:41 GMT From: Xin LI Message-Id: <200411071549.iA7FnfFB041550@freefall.freebsd.org> To: delphij@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-advocacy@FreeBSD.org, gibbs@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: kern/73642: More AHC_ALLOW_MEMIO X-BeenThere: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Evangelism List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 07 Nov 2004 15:49:42 -0000 Synopsis: More AHC_ALLOW_MEMIO Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-advocacy->gibbs Responsible-Changed-By: delphij Responsible-Changed-When: Sun Nov 7 15:47:52 GMT 2004 Responsible-Changed-Why: Over to ahc/ahd maintainer http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=73642 From owner-freebsd-advocacy@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Nov 7 17:40:17 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-advocacy@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8002D16A4CE for ; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 17:40:17 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 555C643D41 for ; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 17:40:17 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) iA7HeH38056506 for ; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 17:40:17 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id iA7HeHZ4056503; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 17:40:17 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sun, 7 Nov 2004 17:40:17 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200411071740.iA7HeHZ4056503@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-advocacy@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Wei-Kai Wu Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ED40416A4CE for ; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 17:36:36 +0000 (GMT) Received: from mailgate.csie.nctu.edu.tw (mailgate.csie.nctu.edu.tw [140.113.209.7]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6AB1343D48 for ; Sun, 7 Nov 2004 17:36:36 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from wkwu@csie.nctu.edu.tw) Received: from mailgate.csie.nctu.edu.tw (wkwu@localhost [127.0.0.1]) iA7HabxO089474 for ; Mon, 8 Nov 2004 01:36:37 +0800 (CST) Received: (from wkwu@localhost) by mailgate.csie.nctu.edu.tw (8.13.1/8.13.1/Submit) id iA7Hablu089473; Mon, 8 Nov 2004 01:36:37 +0800 (CST) Message-Id: <200411071736.iA7Hablu089473@mailgate.csie.nctu.edu.tw> Date: Mon, 8 Nov 2004 01:36:37 +0800 (CST) From: Wei-Kai Wu To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.113 Subject: advocacy/73646: I/O performance: with/without MEMIO option X-BeenThere: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Wei-Kai Wu List-Id: FreeBSD Evangelism List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 07 Nov 2004 17:40:17 -0000 >Number: 73646 >Category: advocacy >Synopsis: I/O performance: with/without MEMIO option >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-advocacy >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sun Nov 07 17:40:16 GMT 2004 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Wei-Kai Wu >Release: FreeBSD 5.2.1-RELEASE amd64 >Organization: Kavalan >Environment: AHA aic7892/7899 AHA aic7901/7902 LSI 1030 Ultra4 Adapter >Description: We ran more than 20000 processes concurrently.
