I use a ASUS CUR-DLS mobo with two P3 at 1GHz, 1GBytes RAM, U160 SCSI equipment and built in 4MB ATI Rage XL PCI graphics. Problem was: Machine freezes spontanously in SMP mode, especially doing a lot of graphics output or simply using Mozilla/FireFox intensively. In single user mode (for update and upgrade purposes) the console freezes after doing a lot of output (while showing what' getting compiled or installed). This 'freezing' does not occur using a Matrox Millenium II PCI! Single user mode works great and stable - but I can not boot machine in multi user mode anymore, the console get stuck with a blinking cursor. That is really weird and seems to be a software problem. Disabling SMP keeps the system running for days with the built in ATI Rage XL PCI graphics, but it still breaks single user mode! I ran into harsh situations while trying to do a buildworld and getting stuck due a dying system when libs got installed! SMP brings down the machine very rapid when doing a lot of graphics! Changing to a Matrox Millenium II, 4MB PCI graphics card keeps single user mode working but freezes the box when coming up into multi user mode! Machine get stuck with a blinking green carret but is still responsive via network. >How-To-Repeat: Use FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE with PCI graphics and SMP! >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Nov 21 02:00:56 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-bugs@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6B47B16A4CE; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 02:00:56 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 467AE43D5A; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 02:00:56 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (linimon@localhost [127.0.0.1]) iAL20u5r018244; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 02:00:56 GMT (envelope-from linimon@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id iAL20uh9018240; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 02:00:56 GMT (envelope-from linimon) Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2004 02:00:56 GMT From: Mark Linimon Message-Id: <200411210200.iAL20uh9018240@freefall.freebsd.org> To: linimon@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: kern/61438: 5.2 nfs tasks running and not selected at install time X-BeenThere: freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Bug reports List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2004 02:00:56 -0000 Synopsis: 5.2 nfs tasks running and not selected at install time Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-i386->freebsd-bugs Responsible-Changed-By: linimon Responsible-Changed-When: Sun Nov 21 02:00:41 GMT 2004 Responsible-Changed-Why: Canonicalize assignment. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=61438 From owner-freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Nov 21 10:50:24 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-bugs@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7FC7A16A4CE for ; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 10:50:24 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5078543D5C for ; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 10:50:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id iALAoOCH015988 for ; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 10:50:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id iALAoOhC015986; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 10:50:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2004 10:50:24 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200411211050.iALAoOhC015986@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Horance Chou Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D94E816A4CE for ; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 10:41:44 +0000 (GMT) Received: from gaia.freera.net (61-31-32-160.static.tfn.net.tw [61.31.32.160]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1731A43D55 for ; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 10:41:44 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from horance@freera.net) Received: from localhost (localhost.freera.net [127.0.0.1]) by gaia.freera.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 57EC01088A6 for ; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 18:41:07 +0800 (CST) Received: from gaia.freera.net ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (gaia.freera.net [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 25486-07 for ; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 18:41:05 +0800 (CST) Received: by gaia.freera.net (Postfix, from userid 1001) id 3193C1088A3; Sun, 21 Nov 2004 18:41:05 +0800 (CST) Message-Id: <20041121104105.3193C1088A3@gaia.freera.net> Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2004 18:41:05 +0800 (CST) From: Horance Chou To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.113 Subject: gnu/74193: gcc 3.4 internal compiler error while compiling Objective C code with long double X-BeenThere: freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Horance Chou List-Id: Bug reports List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2004 10:50:24 -0000 >Number: 74193 >Category: gnu >Synopsis: gcc 3.4 internal compiler error while compiling Objective C code with long double >Confidential: no >Severity: serious >Priority: medium >Responsible: freebsd-bugs >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: sw-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sun Nov 21 10:50:23 GMT 2004 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Horance Chou >Release: FreeBSD 5.3-STABLE i386 >Organization: Free Era Network >Environment: System: FreeBSD gaia.freera.net 5.3-STABLE FreeBSD 5.3-STABLE #35: Tue Nov 9 07:39:15 CST 2004 horance@gaia.freera.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GAIA i386 # gcc -v Using built-in specs.
