I'm the beginner in this mailing list (and in news in general). I have some problems touching tools, which I should use. It will be simply wonderful, if somebody will answer. I want during operation to see, that for me is gained. Therefore it is necessary to convert documents from the SGML-format to HTML (or others). For some reason in standard delivering FreeBSD (I have 4.5-R) do not have necessary tools for this purpose. Through Makefiles has found out that is necessary Jade. Has found it. Has installed. Has started make for documentation assembly. And anything except for errors has not received. Help! Say somebody, than it is necessary will arm for unobstructed involvement the freebsd-doc project. Thanks. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. Your order will be shipped within a maximum of five working days from today (holidays not included) via the method you specified. We are keenly sensitive to the desires of our customers, particularly those who have placed overnight orders, to receive their products as fast as possible and can usually deliver next day service when it is humanly possible. We will contact you with the tracking number via e-mail the day after your order is shipped, so that you may monitor the progress of your order. We want to make certain that you are 100% satisfied with both our products and the way in which we get them to you. To handle any questions about your order, we have set up a special e-mail address for your inquiries. To contact us about the status of an order, please send a message to orderdesk@outlawaudio.com. IMPORTANT NOTE IF YOU ARE AN OUTLAW INTERCONNECT CUSTOMER: Please be aware that the Outlaw Audio PCA cables utilize audiophile-grade locking connectors. In order to connect or remove these cables from an RCA jack, you must loosen the silver colored barrel on the connector by spinning it clockwise. Once connected simply retighten the jacket by spinning it in the opposite direction. DO NOT attempt to connect or remove the PCA cables without first unlocking the connector! Failure to do so will likely result in damage to your equipment. Again, thanks for your order. We know that you will enjoy your Outlaw product, and we look forward to hearing from you about how it integrates with your home theater system. Turned out the reason it didn't work was the fact that I put the startup command at the very bottom of the .xinitrc file. Once I moved it to the top of the file it works. As for the a and U diaeresis, I had those working also, but coded to the z and x keys. I looked in my book on learning spanish and it does not use the u or U diaeresis anywhere in the book, so I'm not going to use those key codings. We have had it running for several years, but only used for our own needs. It is is, however, well maintained. And offers it's resources on both IPv4 and IPv6. To use it, set CVS_RSH=ssh and add the following to you ~/.ssh/config: Host anoncvs.no.netbsd.org Port 11750 All this is explained at http://www.pasta.cs.uit.no/Pasta/anoncvs.html. Maybe we should follow the list we wrote. "We" wrote? Who's "we"? I googled *freebsd* groups for "writing-style-word-list" and found that the only mention of it is an off-hand reference to it in one thread last December. It's CVS log has one entry from Jun'03, in which "blackend" claims to add "disk label" to "the word list", with the only clue to its origin being a Nik Clayton copyright claim. It seems that this part of the "FreeBSD Doceng Team Charter" needs a re-write: Discussion and consensus on the freebsd-doc mailing list is how the project has conducted itself, and how it is expected to conduct itself in the future. FWIW (not much), googling also found a "file system"/"filesystem" hit ratio of 1.37. BTW, if terms like "file system" are not going to be geeked into a single word of jargon, it's even more important to avoid the tendency of casual authors to omit hyphens from phrases that are apt to cause readers to stumble because of the misassociation of words. For example, the beginning of the mount_portalfs(8) manpage speaks of "the global file system namespace", which causes readers' brains to glitch if it first processes the phrase as "the global-file system-namespace" (or grouped by rote as "the global(file(system(namespace)))"). It should be "the global file-system namespace". (Which explains why people have formed lots of new words like "filesystem" -- they don't like to use hyphens.) It was received, and acknowledged. I was never told whether it would make it into the handbook, other than it would be taken into consideration. During some handbook reading this evening, I noticed this recent addition: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/smtp-auth.html I was happy to see this added to the handbook, until I read it, and realized that other than some editing of my poor blog writing, this was a copy of my submission/blog post at: http://veldt.com/archives/000111.html which I've since followed up with (adding TLS) at: http://veldt.com/archives/000315.html While I'm extremely flattered to see my bit of work make it into a source of documentation I rely so heavily on, I'm a bit saddened that I received no credit within the handbook. While I'm happy to contribute to the project, it's nice to be recognized in said project. More specific: 1. the suggested firewall configuration ("OPEN") does not contain any redirection rule. Probably, the intention was "OpenClient". 2. it should be mentioned that NAT does not work with statefull rules. 3. NAT configuration with an "open" firewall is not enough in today's Internet. A set of rules that mixes NAT with filtering should be explained. Combining the two raises some problems not seen in any independently, and should definitely be explained. Here is a working set of rules for NAT and some meaningful packet filtering (of course, one could do better). The external interface is "xl0", and the internal one "rl0". The internal network is 10.0.0/24. # ipfw list 00100 allow ip from any to any via lo0 00200 deny ip from any to 127.0.0.0/8 00300 deny ip from 127.0.0.0/8 to any 00400 divert 8668 ip from any to any via xl0 00500 allow ip from any to any frag 00600 allow ip from 10.0.0.0/24 to any in recv rl0 00700 allow ip from any to 10.0.0.0/24 out xmit rl0 00800 allow ip from any to 10.0.0.0/24 via xl0 00900 allow tcp from me to any setup out xmit xl0 01000 allow tcp from any to me dst-port 22 setup in recv xl0 01100 allow tcp from any to any established via xl0 01200 allow udp from any 53 to any via xl0 01300 allow udp from any to any dst-port 53 via xl0 01400 allow udp from any 68 to any via xl0 01500 allow udp from any to any dst-port 68 via xl0 01600 allow udp from any 123 to any via xl0 01700 allow udp from any to any dst-port 123 via xl0 01800 allow icmp from me to any icmptypes 8 out xmit xl0 01900 allow icmp from any to me icmptypes 0 in recv xl0 02000 allow icmp from any to any icmptypes 3,11 via xl0 02100 deny ip from any to any 65535 deny ip from any to any Note that: 1. The external interface > is "xl0", and the internal one "rl0". The internal network is > 10.0.0/24. > [...] You are talking about packet filtering not only NAT, the aim of the mentioned section is to only cover NAT (natd(8)) not the configuration of a firewall (it's why the OPEN type was used). All examples are done with that point of view. If someone wants to add packet filtering the read of http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/firewalls.html and /etc/rc.firewall will be enough since rc.firewall contains good example. I have started to compile a combined HowTo based on my own operational experience which covers IPSEC with BSD on one end and the "usual suspects" on the other as well as a number of RAS scenarios including PPTP, OpenVPN and others. I will be happy to hear comments and I will be happy if material from it will be used to everyone's benefit in the HandBook. It is available at: http://www.sigsegv.cx/FreeBSD-WIN2K-VPN-HOWTO-New.html It is a work in progress about half the way where it is supposed to be (highly optimistic take on it actually). I am going on holiday on tuesday so I may not be able to read my email every day. I will definitely look through any suggestions and amendments and add them after coming back on the 6th. Brgds, A.
