We tested the 3 following USB Ethernet devices under FreeBSD CURRENT from a CVS snapshot on 5/29/2004 2:30am CST. D-Link DSB-650 USB Ethernet Adapter Device is recognized and the aue0 network interface device appears. It sees it as a 10/100 baseT Ethernet device even though this is only a 10 baseT device. When trying to configure the interface, ifconfig hangs and reports the following error: aue0: MII read timed out Then when I unplug the USB cable, the kernel reports: Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode ... additional info Stopped at usbd_free_xfer+0x1d: movl 0x4(%edx),%edx And drops to the db> prompt. Note: The DSB-650 uses a different MII than the DSB-650TX. D-Link DSB-650TX USB Fast Ethernet Adapter Works fine. Linksys HomeLink Phoneline + 10/100 USB Network Adaptor Works fine. -- Vincent Stemen Avoid the VeriSign/Network Solutions domain registration trap! The board supports six channels via a Realteck AL650. However, I do not know what driver to use. The sound card was not listed in the hardware notes located on the home page of FreeBSD.org. My gut tells me this is not a complete list. If someone knows, what driver to use that would be grand? After looking on the net for quite a time I found these two sites. The first page says it is a FreeBSD driver but has no user feedback nor does it state what versions it was tested on. The second page is from Realteck directly and is a linux driver. Would a linux driver work? I installed the lnux comatable binaries. Does that work for drivers and programs or am I simply dreaming. That was the best I could do. http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/215738/Realtek-RTL8139C_Plus-Driver-1.10.html http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True#8Unix%20(Linux) I have been using FreeBSD for about two weeks now and have not yet tried to use a driver that is not built into the system. I was hoping someone would know if there was a built in driver that I could use, or explain to me how to add a third party driver. I also did some searching in the hardware archives that stated (kinda. They were mostly speaking about the A7N8X) that pcm would work. I read the man page on http://www.gsp.com/cgi-bin/man.cgi?section=4&topic=pcm#4 and my card was not listed. However, it said if my device was not listed then the sound chip may be supported by a "Bridge Driver". Ok as if finding drivers was not hard enough. Now I have to look for a "Bridge Driver". Could someone tell me what a bridge driver is and where I can find them? If I have the wrong mailing list then I apologize for the disturbance. Perhaps someone could direct me in the correct place. Thank you to everyone ahead of time for any help you can provide. Newer versions allow you to kldload the drivers, without rebooting and without building a new kernel...older versions require you to build a new kernel and reboot. If I recall, all 4.x versions will require a kernel recompile, 5.x doesnt. If supported, simply execute as root: kldload snd_driver And this will load /all/ supported drivers for all cards. It's likely that one of these will work. :) You can add the following to /boot/loader.conf to do this at boot time: snd_driver_load=YES Or, follow the directions in man pcm: For a card with bridge driver support, and a PnP card: device pcm So, add device pcm to your kernel config file. After building and booting the new kernel (see the Handbook for how to do this): cd /dev; sh MAKEDEV snd0 to create the devices. ...david --- david raistrick http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html drais@atlasta.net http://www.expita.com/nomime.html From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jun 1 15:03:47 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D1AA316A4CE for ; Tue, 1 Jun 2004 15:03:47 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail5.dslextreme.com (mail5.dslextreme.com [66.51.199.81]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id ABE0D43D3F for ; Tue, 1 Jun 2004 15:03:47 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jmlewis@dslextreme.com) Received: (qmail 10912 invoked from network); 1 Jun 2004 22:03:41 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO www.dslextreme.com) (66.51.199.92) by 192.168.8.93 with SMTP; Tue, 01 Jun 2004 22:03:41 +0000 Message-ID: <5c4a4dd6a1d4fa26eba.20040601150341.wzyrjvf@www.dslextreme.com> In-Reply-To: References: <78c0a65e20a265d0a32f10a.20040601144656.wzyrjvf@www.dslextreme.com> Date: Tue, 1 Jun 2004 15:03:41 -0700 (PDT) From: "Joshua Lewis" To: "David Raistrick" User-Agent: DSL Extreme Webmail (www.dslextreme.com) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Priority: 3 Importance: Normal X-AntiVirus: scanned for viruses by AMaViS 0.2.1 (http://amavis.org/) cc: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Realteck ALC650 X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: jmlewis@dslextreme.com List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 01 Jun 2004 22:03:47 -0000 I am sorry I did not state my version. I was running 4.9 up until this past weekend. I am now running 4.10 after doing a complete reinstall. I have only used the GENERIC Kernel on my system so far. I want to fine tune the system and will be creating a custom kernel soon. I do not have a problem compiling it into the kernel if it is a better option. If it really does not matter whether I load it as a KLM or compile it in then I will use the KLM so I can unload it if I ever need to. It reports the same message as before, as if it's not finding a match on the vendor/product? The power(?) indictor on the dongle never lights. If I reboot the machine with the dongle inserted, the light does come on, but the usbd still doesn't see the dongle as a network device. Any pointers? Thanks. The aim of the project is to get all Atmel at76c503a compatible USB WLAN adapters to work on FreeBSD." "Support for Intersil, RFMD and RFMD2958 radio parts." I'm not sure, if it works, and haven't tried it myself, but you could give it a try. Neither does 4.9-R. 5.2.1-R does see it fine, though. The strange part is that I have MegaRAID 320-1 (not low profile version) in other server and 4.10-R does see it. So, this brings me to a question, is something missing from the amr driver in 4.x which prevents it from recognizing the LP version of LSI MegaRAID 320-1 controller? the 2 should be identical cards. The only difference I can gather is their profile. Am I missing something here? Any input would be appreciated.
