Sorry. Due to a disk space crunch the FreeBSD mirror will probably be disappearing. It isn't gone yet, but I had to trim a few directories. I disabled rsync when I did that to make sure no one would delete anything they didn't want to lose. There is a possibility I'll get the funds for an upgrade, but I am not going to hold my breath. I suspect the mirror will be gone completely within a month. -- Doug Porter From owner-freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Mar 30 10:41:34 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B142816A4CE for ; Tue, 30 Mar 2004 10:41:34 -0800 (PST) Received: from mx1.kingsmeade.net (unknown [65.196.150.4]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id D683343D39 for ; Tue, 30 Mar 2004 10:41:33 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from jdk@kingsmeade.net) Received: (qmail 5604 invoked from network); 30 Mar 2004 18:41:30 -0000 Received: from noc.neutelligent.com (HELO ghettowks) (64.156.25.3) by mx1.kingsmeade.net with SMTP; 30 Mar 2004 18:41:30 -0000 Message-ID: <002901c41686$c7532440$4f018c0a@ghettowks> From: "Joe Kellner" To: "Brian Reichert" , References: <20040330183410.GE29783@numachi.com> Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2004 13:42:39 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1158 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1165 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on mail.kingsmeade.net X-Spam-DCC: SIHOPE-DCC-3: mail.kingsmeade.net 1085; Body=1 Fuz1=1 Fuz2=1 X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-104.6 required=4.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_00, USER_IN_WHITELIST autolearn=ham version=2.60 X-Spam-Level: Subject: Re: US-based rsync sites? coming ftp-DoS on ftp.cz.FreeBSD.org. What about the other mirror sites? It started two weeks ago (and it is visible since one week ago). When anybody installs security/portaudit, it wants to automatically fetch -1am portaudit.tbz every day (?). If somebody is protected by firewall, ftp server could not establish data connection and returns error in an control connection. Unfortunately it seems to me, that flags -1am for fetch mean to retry data download all the time (-a = Automatically retry the transfer upon soft failures). Am I right? Is it possible to do something with it? Oops - I forgot to say the point: I have slowly growing number of active ftp connectoins permanently trying to retrieve portaudit.tbz from the server. Setting the idle timeout does not help, because the ftp control connection is alive all the time, because it tries to RETR portaudit.tbz with small delays equal to the data connection timeout from the server to the ftp client. -- Rudolf Cejka http://www.fit.vutbr.cz/~cejkar Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Information Technology Bozetechova 2, 612 66 Brno, Czech Republic From owner-freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Mar 31 06:11:10 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 183EA16A4CE; Wed, 31 Mar 2004 06:11:10 -0800 (PST) Received: from schurli.wu-wien.ac.at (schurli.wu-wien.ac.at [137.208.16.32]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4BE4343D5E; Wed, 31 Mar 2004 06:11:09 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from georg.graf@wu-wien.ac.at) Received: from schurli.wu-wien.ac.at (localhost [127.0.0.1]) i2VEB4fB038899; Wed, 31 Mar 2004 16:11:05 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from georg.graf@wu-wien.ac.at) Received: (from graf@localhost) by schurli.wu-wien.ac.at (8.12.8p2/8.12.8/Submit) id i2VEB4qH038898; Wed, 31 Mar 2004 16:11:04 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from georg.graf@wu-wien.ac.at) Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 16:11:04 +0200 From: Georg Graf To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org, eik@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20040331141104.GD27753@wu-wien.ac.at> Mail-Followup-To: Georg Graf , freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org, eik@freebsd.org, azi-sys@wu-wien.ac.at References: <20040331121736.GA68135@fit.vutbr.cz> <20040331123114.GA74562@fit.vutbr.cz> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20040331123114.GA74562@fit.vutbr.cz> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4i X-WU-uvscan-status: clean v4.3.20/v4345 hiphop 361b65121c397b02ed98d22da8eaa6d4 cc: azi-sys@wu-wien.ac.at Subject: Re: Problems with looping fetch auditfile.tbz from ftp sites X-BeenThere: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Distributions Hubs: mail sup ftp List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 14:11:10 -0000 On Wed, Mar 31, 2004 at 02:31:14PM +0200, Rudolf Cejka wrote: [...] > Oops - I forgot to say the point: I have slowly growing number of active > ftp connectoins permanently trying to retrieve portaudit.tbz from the > server. Here on ftp.at.freebsd.org we have 5-10 failures per second on auditfile.tbz because of the usage of active ftp. We even get complaints from (so called?) firewall admins about our server scanning their networks. And fetch seems to be rather agressive when the socket connection fails immediately, which is caused by firewalls which reset the connection or send icmp unreachables or the like. I suggest changing the default retrieval method to passive ftp.
