The changes to lib/libstand/bootp.c were promped for the following reasons: o- need to configure many different disk/data-less clients. o- simplify management. o- allow some form of central control Changes: 1: When the pxeboot card first send out a dhcp request, it adds a vendor specific id/class (PXEClient) so that the dhcp daemon can identify the request as comming from a pxe-aware program, eg: from dhcpd.conf class "pxeclients" { option PXE.mtftp-ip 0.0.0.0; match if substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0, 9) = "PXEClient"; } Note: the above 'tricks' the PXE-boot not to go and mess with the proxy-dhcpd/mftp. I modified lib/libstand/bootp.c to send "FreeBSD" instead of the default "PXEClient" and so: option FBSD.kernel code 1 = text; option FBSD.kernel_options code 3 = text; option FBSD.kernelname code 2 = text; option FBSD.usr-ip code 4 = ip-address; option FBSD.usr-path code 5 = text; class "freebsd" { # Production - uses fs-02 option FBSD.kernel "kernel"; match if substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0, 8) = "FreeBSD"; option root-path "1.1.1.1:/roots/FreeBSD/i386-4.4"; vendor-option-space FBSD; } 2: places all the tags received in the kernel environment eg: kenv |grep dhcp dhcp.dhcp-lease-time="0000012c" dhcp.dhcp-message-type="05" dhcp.dhcp-rebinding-time="00000106" dhcp.dhcp-renewal-time="00000096" dhcp.dhcp-server-identifier="132.65.16.17" dhcp.domain-name="cs.huji.ac.il" dhcp.domain-name-servers="132.65.16.10,132.65.16.8" dhcp.host-name="foo" dhcp.root-path="132.65.16.100:/c/2" dhcp.routers="132.65.16.1" dhcp.subnet-mask="255.255.0.0" dhcp.tags="053:054:051:001:003:006:012:017:058:059:015:043:" >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: ftp://ftp.cs.huji.ac.il/users/danny/freebsd/diskless-boot/bootp.c >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: kernel environment From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jan 12 05:21:37 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C23B116A4CE for ; When I'm booting with my gamepad connected to the usb port it finds it at the device ugen0 but I have to have it on uhid0 so I have to unplug it and reattach it, then the uhid0 device is created. Oh well, the biggest problem is that if I use the gamepad in for example zsnes to play some old classic snes games. After a few minutes (sometimes just one minute and sometimes more then 10 minutes) it stops responding and when I exit the application everything locks up and after a few seconds the system reboots automatically. >How-To-Repeat: For the first problem (devfs), just boot with the gamepad connected. For the other problem: Launch zsnes (or another program that uses the gamepad) and start play a game (using the gamepad ofcourse). >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jan 12 15:30:14 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8089816A4CE for ; Mon, 12 Jan 2004 15:30:14 -0800 (PST) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 263FD43D48 for ; Mon, 12 Jan 2004 15:30:13 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i0CNUDFR067698 for ; Mon, 12 Jan 2004 15:30:13 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.10/8.12.10/Submit) id i0CNUCI2067697; Mon, 12 Jan 2004 15:30:12 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats) Date: Mon, 12 Jan 2004 15:30:12 -0800 (PST) Message-Id: <200401122330.i0CNUCI2067697@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: Alexander Bussman Subject: RE: i386/61278: USB joystick/gamepad X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Alexander Bussman List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 12 Jan 2004 23:30:14 -0000 The following reply was made to PR i386/61278; it has been noted by GNATS. When it get reattached the device /dev/uhid0 gets recreated with 0644 permissions and it should be 0664 (for me atleast). So I guess the main problem is the devfs problem... If the ugen driver is loaded before the uhid driver and the gamepad is already connected, ugen will claim the gamepad. Just make sure uhid is compiled into the kernel or loaded at boot time (uhid_load=3D"yes" in /boot/loader.conf) so it gets a chance to claim the gamepad before ugen does. If I try and boot from any 5.2 ISO (5.2-RC1, 5.2-RC2, or 5.2-RELEASE) the system immediately reboots about half a second into the boot procedure. I don't believe it even gets to the point where it displays anything. However, a 5.1-RELEASE CD boots just fine and FreeBSD installs flawlessly. Likewise, a 4.9-RELEASE CD also boots fine, however it is not able to detect the controller and thus I can't install. To work around it, I created some 5.2-RELEASE install floppies and booted off those. There were no problems with booting from floppy, and the 5.2 INSTALL from the same CD worked perfectly. >How-To-Repeat: Install FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE from a CD onto (I am assuming) a machine with a Promise Fasttrak SATA raid controller. >Fix: It must be something related to the ATAng code that was changed between 5.1 and 5.2, as 5.1 install CD works. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jan 13 13:14:08 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 311E316A4CE; Tue, 13 Jan 2004 13:14:08 -0800 (PST) Received: from cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org (cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org [192.58.184.37]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1A88143D5A; Tue, 13 Jan 2004 13:14:06 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from des+tinderbox@freebsd.org) Received: from cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) i0DLE5v9049020; Tue, 13 Jan 2004 16:14:05 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from des+tinderbox@freebsd.org) Received: (from des@localhost) by cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id i0DLE4x7049019; Tue, 13 Jan 2004 16:14:04 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from des+tinderbox@freebsd.org) Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 16:14:04 -0500 (EST) Message-Id: <200401132114.i0DLE4x7049019@cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org> X-Authentication-Warning: cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org: des set sender to Tinderbox using -f Sender: Tinderbox From: Tinderbox To: current@freebsd.org, i386@freebsd.org Precedence: bulk Subject: [current tinderbox] failure on i386/i386 X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 21:14:08 -0000 TB --- 2004-01-13 19:45:51 - tinderbox 2.2 running on cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org TB --- 2004-01-13 19:45:51 - starting CURRENT tinderbox run for i386/i386 TB --- 2004-01-13 19:45:51 - checking out the source tree TB --- cd /home/des/tinderbox/CURRENT/i386/i386 TB --- /usr/bin/cvs -f -R -q -d/home/ncvs update -Pd -A src TB --- 2004-01-13 19:47:45 - building world TB --- cd /home/des/tinderbox/CURRENT/i386/i386/src TB --- /usr/bin/make -B buildworld >>> Rebuilding the temporary build tree >>> stage 1.1: legacy release compatibility shims >>> stage 1.2: bootstrap tools >>> stage 2.1: cleaning up the object tree >>> stage 2.2: rebuilding the object tree >>> stage 2.3: build tools >>> stage 3: cross tools >>> stage 4.1: building includes >>> stage 4.2: building libraries >>> stage 4.3: make dependencies >>> stage 4.4: building everything.. I had been running with a USB keyboard and no AT keyboard attached. With the 5.2 release the keyboard does not work. Logging in via ssh I see that there are two keyboard devices, apparently an AT keyboard was registered despite its absence. Following the procedure of "man kbdcontrol" kbdcontrol -k /dev/kbd1 < /dev/console does NOT attach the usb keyboard. Recompiling the kernel and using the procedure of "man ukbd" kbdcontrol -k /dev/kbd0 < /dev/ttyv0 > /dev/null also does NOT attach the usb keyboard. Each approach was tried with and without "usb legacy support" enabled in the bios (with cold power-down after each change). In all tests hint.sc.0.flags="0x100", as I understand it should be to detect the missing AT keyboard and attach the usb keyboard. There appears to be no way to use the usb keyboard on this system with release 5.2! The computer hasn't crashed since it does allow me to for example scroll up/down in the console. A very similar problem was reported by someone else in PR 60671, but that person managed to continue by removing the NIC (PCCARD). I have tried disabling the built-in wireless NIC but it didn't help.
