I did not see an option in my BIOS, is there a boot option or sysctl variable which can be set? The aperature size is also lower than 256MB so I am not sure this pr[68518] relates to that pr[61739]. I have currently worked around the problem by installing freebsd on a different machine, rebuilding the kernel without AGP support and then swapping the harddrive into the offending machine. I am happy to continue working through the problem though. It was stopping on setting up the cbb0 device. I was trying to boot 5.2.1 using the iso images on a Toshiba satelite P20 and having it hang. Somewhere else on a google search I had read about building a custom boot CD and putting the following commands in the OS conf file to build it: nodevice cbb nodevice pccard nodevice cardbus device card 1 device pcic It also mentioned to try setting hw.pci.allow_unsupportable_io_range="1". in the boot loader.conf file as an alternative. I did not want to build a custom boot fiule so I did the following: 1) booted on CD 2) when the OS selection screen is shown I choose boot the loader 3) at the OK prompt I typed set hw.pci.allow_unsupportable_io_range="1" boot and the system got to the standard sysinstall screens. ---------------------------------------- Gary Biagioni Ecension Inc. 103 Country Lane Terrace Calgary, Alberta, Canada T3Z 1H8 Phone: 403.286.1732 Cell: 403.850.8218 From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jul 9 06:07:51 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6085816A4CE; Fri, 9 Jul 2004 06:07:51 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 57E2D43D3F; Fri, 9 Jul 2004 06:07:51 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from bms@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (bms@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i6967pmR079829; Fri, 9 Jul 2004 06:07:51 GMT (envelope-from bms@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from bms@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i6967oPH079825; Fri, 9 Jul 2004 06:07:50 GMT (envelope-from bms) Date: Fri, 9 Jul 2004 06:07:50 GMT From: Bruce M Simpson Message-Id: <200407090607.i6967oPH079825@freefall.freebsd.org> To: andrei@abc.ro, bms@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org, bms@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: i386/68286: IBM PCNet Ethernet (AMD chip) seen as Trident 4DWave DX/NX by the kernel X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 09 Jul 2004 06:07:51 -0000 Synopsis: IBM PCNet Ethernet (AMD chip) seen as Trident 4DWave DX/NX by the kernel State-Changed-From-To: open->feedback State-Changed-By: bms State-Changed-When: Fri Jul 9 06:07:10 GMT 2004 State-Changed-Why: Please respond with the full output, from the affected system, of: pciconf -lv if_pcn.c defines the following: 0x20001022 -> AMD PCnet/PCI 10/100BaseTX t4dwave.c defines the following: 0x20001023 -> Trident 4DWave DX This suggests an off-by-one somewhere, or possibly the PCI ID on your network card is incorrect, or being incorrectly matched by the sound drivers. Now, I am able to 'mount_udf /dev/acd0 /mnt'. If the dvd-ram is formatted w/ UDF1.5 I am able to cat/cp MOST files. Unfortunately, trying to cp/cat certain files (maybe 'cause they are large?) results in the entire system crashing/rebooting automagically (ugh!). In addition, the disc gets corrupted (I tried copying a file from a directory on the DVD-RAM and after the crash/reboot I was no longer able to even ls the directory that the file was contained in, some kind of 'input/output error'). >How-To-Repeat: Well, you may or may not need specific hardware (MATSHITA DVD-RAM SW-9571 A111). Insert a dvd-ram disc that is formated UDF2, mount_udf it, then try 'cat file_on_dvd_ram'; the message displayed is 'cannot allocate memory'. Also, insert a dvd-ram disc that is formatted UDF1.5, mount_udf it, then try 'cp large_file_on_dvd_ram some_dir_on_hd' with various large files; eventually the system should crash and reboot, your dvd-ram will be corrupted. >Fix: dunno >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jul 11 00:00:41 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 58AE016A4CE for ; Sun, 11 Jul 2004 00:00:41 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3540043D53 for ; Sun, 11 Jul 2004 00:00:41 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id i6B00fQ8016627 for ; Sun, 11 Jul 2004 00:00:41 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i6B00fn6016623; Sun, 11 Jul 2004 00:00:41 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sun, 11 Jul 2004 00:00:41 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200407110000.i6B00fn6016623@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Alejandro Valenzuela Roca Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 03A1E16A4CE for ; Sat, 10 Jul 2004 23:57:23 +0000 (GMT) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [216.136.204.117]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EEB9243D31 for ; Sat, 10 Jul 2004 23:57:22 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id i6ANvMuZ062616 for ; Sat, 10 Jul 2004 23:57:22 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i6ANvM7m062615; Sat, 10 Jul 2004 23:57:22 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200407102357.i6ANvM7m062615@www.freebsd.org> Date: Sat, 10 Jul 2004 23:57:22 GMT From: Alejandro Valenzuela Roca To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-2.3 Subject: i386/68900: 5.x install CDs fail to boot on Toshiba Satellite 5205 s503 X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 11 Jul 2004 00:00:41 -0000 >Number: 68900 >Category: i386 >Synopsis: 5.x install CDs fail to boot on Toshiba Satellite 5205 s503 >Confidential: no >Severity: critical >Priority: high >Responsible: freebsd-i386 >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: sw-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sun Jul 11 00:00:40 GMT 2004 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Alejandro Valenzuela Roca >Release: 4.10-RC2 >Organization: none >Environment: FreeBSD citlalmina.earthshakers 4.10-RC2 FreeBSD 4.10-RC2 #12: Sat Jul 10 16:37:05 CDT 2004 lanjoe9@citlalmina.earthshakers:/usr/src/sys/compile/CITLALMINA i386 >Description: I've been unable to install FreeBSD since FreeBSD 5.0, I've tried the 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.2.1 and today's -CURRENT (10th july) install CD. When I try installing any 5.x install CD, it starts alright (although quite slower than the 4.X series, including the "spinner") and gets to the ascii daemon screen. I have tried enabling and disablinc ACPI, with/without verbose, safe mode, unloading all modules/unloading usb module and setting the "allow unsupported hw" flag (in several ways: with/without quotes around the 1 and such), but after that screen, the computer only gets to these four lines: pci1 on pcib2 ohci0: mem 0xfceff000-oxfcefffff irq 6 at device 6.0 on pci2 ohci: [GIANT-LOCKED] usb0: OHCI version 1.0 And then it freezes completely ( caps-lock does not respond, and I have waited more than 2 hours but the computer doesn't do anything else). >How-To-Repeat: Attempt to install any 5.x FreeBSD system. >Fix: doh >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted:
