I made a buildworld today (compiled Ok) I made a new kernel adding the pre-requisites from the handbook for bluetooth dongles. (Compiled Okay.) Rebooted I faced a panic while in kernel mode.(page fault) I single booted the older kernel Installed world + mergemaster. Rebooted (kernel panic again) The new kernel cannot boot in single mode even with ACPI disabled. The previous kernel also boot in single mode and system panics if I try to start multi user. >How-To-Repeat: Well... I made buildworld + kernel.... From: Giorgos Keramidas To: bug-followup@freebsd.org Cc: Subject: Re: i386/63776: FreeBSD 5.x freezes during boot on a toshiba p25 s509 series Date: Wed, 4 Aug 2004 03:18:47 +0300 [-- Adding to the audit trail the text of misfiled problem report i386/69776 --] Date: Thu, 29 Jul 2004 18:46:50 -0400 From: "Systems Admnistrator" I have tried the solution you mentioned without any luck using fresh disks and new 5.2.1 iso's from ftp5,ftp6 and ftp13.freebsd.net . I have spent many years using FreeBSD and successfully deploying it on a variety of platforms and have tried just about every possible solution using various boot options without any success. I would like to note that a colleague of mine had a similar problem with the a Toshiba p20 and that the solution mentioned by Gary worked for him with limited success. He was able to install FreeBSD but after 5 successful subsequent boots the same problem occurred and even adding set hw.pci.allow_unsupportable_io_range="1" to a boot config didn't help. (message should have read as follow) On subsequent attempts to boot off the disks afterwards he managed to achieve a successful boot to the installer on 1 out of every 5 tries Very Odd no ? I'm at a loss myself . If it's any consolation all versions of sunOS from 5.6 to current fail due to problems with the Toshiba cardbus as well. So at this point it's fair to say this Bug still exists and still has not been fixed, nor is there an effective workaround. Though it's not strictly an i386 issue, I am directing it to this list because I did not see a freebsd-usb list. I would be willing to write the support for it if need be, but I thought that those more familiar with the uvisor driver would be better able to address it. Support for this phone worked great through serial, but I plan on getting a new IBM laptop and they seem to think that serial is obsolete or some such. Anyways, if this is an inappropriate place for this message, please let me know where I can direct it, and if anyone is willing to write this feature or assist me in writing it, I'd be very thankful. Eric Kjeldergaard I write a signature to let you know I care. These are actually the important lines. Please see the Developers Handbook on how to obtain a crash dump and send back the stack trace. This will (hopefully) make it possible for the kernel hackers to see what's going wrong. --=20 Simon L. I was also having this problem. After fiddling around for a few hours I gave up and got an older version of natd from the June 25th snapshot at ftp://current.freebsd.org It was the first one I tried and it worked. (I also got that same snapshots copy of libalias, in case it matters. Don't think it does unless you plan on compiling natd again before it's really fixed...)
