As near as I can tell from the Dell manual (which is just an Intel manual with a Dell cover) and from the folks at Dell I have spoken with, Dell made some changes to the 3250 (a re-branded Intel box) but did not bother to update the manual to reflect those changes. So don't follow the instructions in the manual that tell you to set up console redirection via EFI--they don't work. Use the BIOS. This machine has been the source of a lot of friction between my group and Dell; I am curious to learn about your experiences with it. :Fuzz From owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 27 05:07:01 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C2B2C16A4CE for ; Tue, 27 Apr 2004 05:07:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: from ausc60ps301.us.dell.com (ausc60ps301.us.dell.com [143.166.148.206]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 71B6C43D45 for ; Tue, 27 Apr 2004 05:07:01 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from Muthu_T@Dell.com) Received: from ausx2kcpc114.aus.amer.dell.com (143.166.5.179) by ausc60ps301.us.dell.com with ESMTP; 27 Apr 2004 07:07:01 -0500 content-class: urn:content-classes:message MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.0.6487.1 Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 17:35:06 +0530 Message-ID: X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: Dell PE3250 + FreeBSD 5.2.1 Thread-Index: AcQr1wJxZrFtzvbEQrGAGZGqUXLOxgAd9ZCQ From: To: X-OriginalArrivalTime: 27 Apr 2004 12:05:06.0814 (UTC) FILETIME=[E15BB9E0:01C42C4F] cc: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Subject: RE: Dell PE3250 + FreeBSD 5.2.1 X-BeenThere: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the IA-64 List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 12:07:02 -0000 >-----Original Message----- >From: Jason M. Using Hyperterminal, (I could't connect via minicom. How to disable the modem connection in minicom?) I got the following output. After the following line, I see only the blinking cursor. "Entering /boot/kernel/kernel at 0xe000000004058000..." Did you successfully installed FreeBSD on your PE3250?. If so could you send out the mini-HOWTO?
