I booted from the mini-install iso. The kernel loaded... no console. Quick check on google, I see that Marcel reports that there is no VGA console. I hook up a VT510 (emulating VT100) set 9600 N81... and nothing. What am I missing? How do I get to the installer? -Allen From owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Dec 5 03:33:00 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 380D116A4CE for ; Sun, 5 Dec 2004 03:33:00 +0000 (GMT) Received: from ns1.xcllnt.net (209-128-86-226.bayarea.net [209.128.86.226]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BB69E43D5E for ; Sun, 5 Dec 2004 03:32:59 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from marcel@xcllnt.net) Received: from [192.168.4.250] (dhcp50.pn.xcllnt.net [192.168.4.250]) by ns1.xcllnt.net (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id iB53WrXv027961; Sat, 4 Dec 2004 19:32:53 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from marcel@xcllnt.net) In-Reply-To: <20041205025802.GF668@philemon.caltech.edu> References: <20041205025802.GF668@philemon.caltech.edu> Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v619) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Message-Id: <5886D72A-466E-11D9-A99B-000D93C47836@xcllnt.net> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Marcel Moolenaar Date: Sat, 4 Dec 2004 19:32:52 -0800 To: eng@donut.ugcs.caltech.edu X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.619) cc: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Installation Difficulties X-BeenThere: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the IA-64 List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 05 Dec 2004 03:33:00 -0000 On Dec 4, 2004, at 6:58 PM, eng@donut.ugcs.caltech.edu wrote: > I've been having trouble getting the installation of 5.3R on > a Dell Precision 730 to work. > > I booted from the mini-install iso. Make sure hw.uart.console has the same settings. By default the console speed is 115.2K for 5.3. Just interrupt the autoboot and type "show" after the OK prompt. Also, if the box supports the DIG64 HCDP table you need to switch EFI to the serial console. You can check that by typing "hcdp" at the OK prompt in the loader. -- Marcel Moolenaar USPA: A-39004 marcel@xcllnt.net From owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Dec 6 11:02:23 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 68AA116A4D7 for ; Mon, 6 Dec 2004 11:02:23 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 43CAB43D41 for ; Mon, 6 Dec 2004 11:02:23 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id iB6B2NeJ027368 for ; Mon, 6 Dec 2004 11:02:23 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1/Submit) id iB6B2Mg0027362 for freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org; Mon, 6 Dec 2004 11:02:22 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 6 Dec 2004 11:02:22 GMT Message-Id: <200412061102.iB6B2Mg0027362@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.org Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the IA-64 List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 06 Dec 2004 11:02:23 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems Serious problems Non-critical problems S Submitted Tracker Resp.
