From: Gerrit Kuehn To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: ports/65465: Eclipse has no fonts with recent pango, compiling Eclipse coredumps. Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 08:24:12 +0200 Ok, I found the reason and the fix: "portupgrade -R -N eclipse" doesn't update apache-ant (why?). I had v1.6.0 installed which produced the mentioned problem. Explicitly updating apache-ant via "portupgrade -R apache-ant" to 1.6.1_1 solves the problem. After that "portupgrade -R -N eclipse" compiles and installs eclipse and the problem which pango is gone after that, as I already supposed. cu Gerrit From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 21 00:31:39 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B84A616A4CE; Wed, 21 Apr 2004 00:31:39 -0700 (PDT) Received: from www.kukulies.org (www.kukulies.org [213.146.112.180]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D465143D54; Wed, 21 Apr 2004 00:31:38 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from kuku@www.kukulies.org) Received: from www.kukulies.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.kukulies.org (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id i3L7VZqj053061; Wed, 21 Apr 2004 09:31:35 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from kuku@www.kukulies.org) Received: (from kuku@localhost) by www.kukulies.org (8.12.10/8.12.10/Submit) id i3L7VYOI053060; Wed, 21 Apr 2004 09:31:34 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from kuku) Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 09:31:34 +0200 From: "Christoph P. Do I need to set JAVA_BUILD or JAVA_RUN? And what are valid values for these? It uses javac while building and is a library to run with java. That's why it needs native java. Any comments before I send a PR for this? Greetings, Ronald. Now JAVA_BUILD (and respectively JAVA_RUN) allows two values: 'jdk' or 'jre'. When JAVA_BUILD=jdk, it means that a compiler is needed, which is the same as setting NEED_JAVAC=yes as before. When nothing is set (neither JAVA_BUILD nor JAVA_RUN), bsd.java.mk assumes the folloing default values: JAVA_BUILD= jdk JAVA_RUN= jre So your patch is correct is this regard. You just need to remove the NEED_JAVAC statement. I tested it on my box and it seems to work. I said "seems" because I have a build error. I've attached the log just in case. I haven't got enough time to debug it myself at the moment so if you know the problem, please tell me (I'll investigate myself in a few days otherwise). BTW, I had trouble with your diff file: probably a cut-n-paste error but all tabs were replaced by spaces in your message. I've put a tar file with the FreeBSD *.so's at www dot rahn-koltermann dot de slash files (there's only that one file in there). Unpack the Eclipse 3M7 sourceIncluded distribution, cd into it, and unpack my tar file. It should replace the Linux *.so's with FreeBSD ones. Then build with the same command that you would use for Linux (-os Linux -ws gtk IIRC). The resulting ZIP file will look like a Linux one but will actually contain FreeBSD binaries - that was the simplest quick hack. I also have a manual transcript of the commands that I needed to build the *.so's, and I could diff -r against a freshly unpacked source to get my patches to the build files of the native part, but I wanted to verify that by redoing it once again, and I just don't get time now. It's all eaten up by work, family, or sleep. If you are adventurous let me know, I could share the unverified build procedure as well. For now the *.so's should get you going I hope. I didn't find time to build M8 yet. -- Regards, Georg. So I found what is broken: the Makefile overrides ${ECHO_MSG}. This only occurs when you are missing some distfile (or patchfile) is ${DISTDIR}. You may try the attached patch to have an idea. Basically, printf(1) is used because of the '\n' escapes that are used to display error messages in 80 chars wide lines. My suggestion: - Remove the ECHO_MSG override statements - Write the error messages in separate, plain-old text files (in files/) - Have IGNORE set to the content of these files, but filtered (with sed(1)) to print the correct values of ${JDK_VERSION} and ${SCSL_*} variables. Alexey, if you agree with that, I will send a PR. Hum. I realize now that we don't need files, just plain-old variables and the correct sed(1) command to limit to 80 chars width. So I may rather implement that if you prefer.
