Looks like this is a new rev of the card, so it wasn't recognized by pccardd. No problem, I just created the following pccard.conf entry: card "D-Link" "DWL-650 Wireless PC Card RevP" config auto "wi" ? insert /etc/pccard_ether $device start remove /etc/pccard_ether $device stop Now the card is recognized. However I get the following errors: wi0 at port 0x280-0x2ff irq 9 slot 0 on pccard0 wi0: wi_cmd: busy bit won't clear. wi0: wi_cmd: busy bit won't clear. wi0: wi_cmd: busy bit won't clear. wi0: init failed wi0: wi_cmd: busy bit won't clear. wi0: wi_cmd: busy bit won't clear. wi0: mac read failed 5 device_probe_and_attach: wi0 attach returned 5 I haven't found anything useful pertaining to -stable in the archives. That would seem to be ... a "cute trick" -- DHCP only works once you've established some minimal level of IP connectivity, and the absence of appropriate SSID & WEP key (if applicable) would seem to impair that connectivity. In fact I am in possession of a script to do exactly that (can also decide based on SSID). I rebooted with the lines in the rc.conf remmed out, I still get error on the boot from the ACPI (I'll copy the dmesg), but I still can see the life and time of the battery, except for KDE, that says that apm is not running... AND.. when I "put to sleep" the computer, the monitor doesn't go off, except if I close the lid. when I try to "wake up" the computer, sometime I get some errors after: ata0: resetting devices .. but everything works fine.
