I have an MSI Hermes 651 box with the onboard SIS 7012 sound chipset (snd_ich supported) but I want to use the optical out on this card. It does work in Linux and Windows, but I can't figure out how to enable it in FreeBSD. Is this possible on this card? Thanks! Thanks in advance for any assistance you provide... I installed at 5.3-BETA2 and used CVSUP to move to 5.3-BETA3 I have installed Audacity and the first issue I have is if I click the record button the entire system reboots! I am able to read wave and mp3 files and manipulate them. I also was able to export to mp3. The listed device in the properties of Audacity is something called: /dev/dsp I am suspecting this is wrong because my sound card is: /dev/pcm0 or /dev/csa (it is using crystal card chip set) I cannot find anywhere to allow me to edit the device. File/Preferences has a place that wants to allow selecting a device but it only shows: /dev/dsp and it won't allow me to edit. I have NOT tried running Audacity as root. I tried to deinstall and change the freebsd patch file that provided this device but it wouldn't "make" with that change so I had to change it back. My goal is to be able to record LINE-IN to WAV. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Everybody ha= s=20 the /dev/dsp device nodes (and nobody has /dev/pcm). > I was able to record from the output of my CD player so > thanks for your help. I will try Line in as soon as I can > get some ... "line in". (record-gain was it I believe!) Not sure what you're saying here, I was referring to mixer devices. If you= =20 type 'mixer' in your shell, you'll get output similar to this: [lofi@kiste]:1:~ > mixer Mixer vol is currently set to 75:75 Mixer pcm is currently set to 100:100 Mixer speaker is currently set to 75:75 Mixer line is currently set to 0:0 Mixer mic is currently set to 0:0 Mixer cd is currently set to 75:75 Mixer rec is currently set to 11:11 Mixer ogain is currently set to 50:50 Mixer line1 is currently set to 75:75 Mixer phin is currently set to 0:0 Mixer phout is currently set to 0:0 Mixer video is currently set to 75:75 Recording source: line As you can see, in this example there are two line-ins (line and line1). Th= e=20 first one is selected as the recording source (and it translates to a Line-= In=20 minijack input on my onboard sound). The rec mixer device controls the the= =20 record level of the selected recording source. =2D-=20 ,_, | Michael Nottebrock | lofi@freebsd.org (/^ ^\) | FreeBSD - The Power to Serve | http://www.freebsd.org \u/ | K Desktop Environment on FreeBSD | http://freebsd.kde.org --nextPart1750495.3NYeREoKFk Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.6 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQBBRlrsXhc68WspdLARApp/AJ4ufNPco7urzax2AqKqFPIMSBRfXQCfW7QG tLD3yzwpiTk4TBnzCf34XBM= =UlJI -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --nextPart1750495.3NYeREoKFk-- From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Sep 14 17:24:46 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EC51816A4CE for ; Tue, 14 Sep 2004 17:24:45 +0000 (GMT) Received: from smtp2.dnainternet.net (smtp2.dnainternet.net [62.240.72.111]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 50B0743D39 for ; Tue, 14 Sep 2004 17:24:45 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from erik.u@dnainternet.net) Received: from b-192-137.cable.kpy.customers.dnainternet.fi ([212.149.192.137]:51193smtp2.dnainternet.net with ESMTP id S1229194AbUINRYd (ORCPT ); Tue, 14 Sep 2004 20:24:33 +0300 Message-ID: <41472956.4060402@dnainternet.net> Date: Tue, 14 Sep 2004 20:24:38 +0300 From: "Erik U." On FreeBSD 5.2.1-p9: First of all i am really annoyed by the lag in mplayer and xmms when seeking. I found this patch and tried it -- it worked just fine and no errors or anything. At the time i was using kde, in wich i will never return(i dont like it anymore). So i installed gnome and it crashed my system.. page fault (output in attached file). After i while i couldn't figure out what was wrong so i did a clean install. Then i figured it was this sound patch, attached, which had been working perfecltly before, that crashed my system when i was loading gnome. I only got the "Loading gnome" splashscreen and the mouse wouldn't answer becouse i got a page fault. So i deinstalled gnome-settings-daemon and tried again. Now the gnome_audio applet or whatever it's name was did the same thing. So i'm asking if someone could make this patch *gnome compitable* or give some kind of advice. --------------020209010307040309010305 Content-Type: text/plain; name="dsp.1.67-1.70.patch" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline;
