I did this successfully a couple of years ago with 4.5 with no trouble, so I know it's basically good to go. I'm doing it by building up the minimum system to run the binaries I need (sshd, ssh, X, rdesktop). It's all working fine except for login. Does anyone know what the minimum file set for login actually is? So far I've copied libpam.so, login itself, all the pam_*.so modules, login.conf and the pam.d/* files. What I get is a message about "chunk already freed" whenever I attempt to login, either on console, or over telnet/ssh. I assume that something else is required and missing, but I can't figure out what - any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Howard [side question - the next stage after this is to try a pxeboot-based version. I can't find much info about how to use a built-in md device in a 5.x kernel though. Is this possible? I'd rather like to avoid running an NFS server if I can...] From owner-freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Mar 31 07:48:24 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ADD0716A4CE for ; Wed, 31 Mar 2004 07:48:24 -0800 (PST) Received: from ares.wolfpond.org (ns1.wolfpond.org [62.212.96.219]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DBE2943D58 for ; Wed, 31 Mar 2004 07:48:22 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from ftigeot@wolfpond.org) Received: from ares.wolfpond.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by ares.wolfpond.org (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id i2VFmExC052449; Wed, 31 Mar 2004 17:48:14 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from greywolf@ares.wolfpond.org) Received: (from greywolf@localhost) by ares.wolfpond.org (8.12.10/8.12.10/Submit) id i2VFmDAW052448; Wed, 31 Mar 2004 17:48:13 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from greywolf) Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 17:48:13 +0200 From: Francois Tigeot To: Howard Jones Message-ID: <20040331154813.GA49436@ares.wolfpond.org> References: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.1i cc: thinbsd@cogidis.com cc: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Subject: Re: login requirements? This is not the shortest list, but except for the ssh part this document should contain what you need : http://www.thinbsd.org/ThinBSD-filelist-2004-03-13.txt > [side question - the next stage after this is to try a pxeboot-based > version. In fact, it was one of the primary motivations behind a pet project of mine: ThinBSD, a FreeBSD based thin client system. The kernel and ramdisk are loaded from the pxe loader, via tftp. Check out http://www.thinbsd.org/ it seems like we have the same goals. -- Francois Tigeot
