If possible, I'd like the flash to be externally accessible to make upgrading or moving the flash a little simpler. Does anyone know of a PCI-slot flash carrier that can present itself as a bootable IDE drive with an external slot? I've found some PCI-PCMCIA cards, but they all talk about Windows compatibility, and appear to be aimed at digital camera users more than anything... How married are you to the idea of using a PCI slot? We have a demo network box that uses SanDisk CF cards. The CF cards go into a SanDisk CF PC Card Adapter, that goes into the pc-card device, which is plugged into the IDE bus instead of the PCI bus. The entire thing replaces a DiskOnModule :> But it is all standard, OTC kit. rip From owner-freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 22 14:30:28 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 578A416A4CE for ; Fri, 22 Oct 2004 14:30:28 +0000 (GMT) Received: from ares.wolfpond.org (ns1.wolfpond.org [62.212.96.219]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 813C943D55 for ; Fri, 22 Oct 2004 14:30:26 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ftigeot@wolfpond.org) Received: from aoi.wolfpond.org (aoi.wolfpond.org [IPv6:2001:7a8:24db:1:20c:76ff:feb4:27e1]) by ares.wolfpond.org (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id i9MEUO0K013186; Fri, 22 Oct 2004 16:30:24 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ftigeot@aoi.wolfpond.org) Received: from aoi.wolfpond.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by aoi.wolfpond.org (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id i9MEUXIM012347; Fri, 22 Oct 2004 16:30:33 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ftigeot@aoi.wolfpond.org) Received: (from ftigeot@localhost) by aoi.wolfpond.org (8.13.1/8.13.1/Submit) id i9MEUXMY012346; Fri, 22 Oct 2004 16:30:33 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ftigeot) Date: Fri, 22 Oct 2004 16:30:33 +0200 From: Francois Tigeot To: Howard Jones Message-ID: <20041022143033.GA12300@aoi.wolfpond.org> References: <1AB712D7-2434-11D9-B27E-000A956A3900@thingy.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <1AB712D7-2434-11D9-B27E-000A956A3900@thingy.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i cc: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Subject: Re: bootable PCI flash slot? At least some of the Casetronic CF readers come with a PCI carrier: http://www.casetronic.com/products/Products_Accessory.asp I don't remember if I used the models for the C146/C147 or C137 cases though. They worked fine with 5.x. Be sure to set the "disk" to CHS mode in the bios. Best regards, -- Francois Tigeot
